How to start coding (the right way)

- Sup bro! You have asked me how to start coding so much that I HAD to make a video on it finally.
IMO at the beginning keeping it simple and avoiding pitfalls is the key to keep going consistently. That's why I recommend the things I do because I know from experience that if you make the starting out phase too hard, many will quit and think that coding is too hard for them.
Hope you enjoy the video bro!

I love these videos and liked, and commented without seeing it all yet. Everyone’s journey is different and seeing how people learn is a great way to inspire others. Love the content.
man really appreciate that ❤️ you're 100% correct on everyone having a different journey, i try to put out "general" tips but also i understand they might not work for everyone 🫡 really appreciate the support 🫶
I think C is better to learn as a first language before Python because once you have that down, you will dominate in Python without those curly braces and semicolons. You got it easy with Python because you came from a low-level language. Of course, it's going to be hard, but it's worth it.
valid point my friend! the problem for me with something like C as a first language is that im 100% sure more people quit coding if they make it too hard at the start. thats why i want to push the "keep it simple" at the beginning because i want people to be in it for the long term you know?
but agreed IF you can stick to it go with C at the start but i dont think for most its the right answer 🫡
c is great if you are in a formal setting but learning on your own c is just too tedious and boring. When starting from zero and learning on your own you want to pick most popular language that has the most learning material on the web.
Python is actually a high level language
100% agree
Luke, thank you for making this video. My starting point with programming has been through the CS50x course. I continuously bounce between "Man, this makes so much sense and is so easy!" and "I am an absolute fool for deciding to take this path".
I say this as I prep for starting college with a Java focus for my B.S.E in Software Engineering. I think your video, and channel, are a great source of information that's provided simply to those new to the tech industry. Definitely following your advice.
man awesome to hear that you've been making good process 🫶 congrats on the college aswell 👊
what you're going through with the feelings is completely normal and i dont think there ever will be a point where everything makes sense thats the beauty of the tech industry haha
but really appreciate the comment wish you all the best 🫶
I’m so happy I found this channel when I did because I can see you growing so much in the future
man thank you so much ❤️ really means alot to me hope i can provide more value in the future aswell 👊
good advice dawg. i been in the analysis paralysis route myself so it's always nice to watch one these vids every now and then to get u out of that funk. keep doin what ur doin

Gotta figure out a pivot for swift! It’s what I’m interested in but I know jobs are slim. Keep posting brother I always appreciate the encouragement!
hey bro! thing with iOS dev is that sure theres less jobs but at the same time theres less people doing it aswell! so if youre interested in that then go for it fully and im sure you will beat your competition 👊
really appreciate the comment and wish you all the best on the journey 🫶
Thanks bro. Appreciate these videos.
will keep them coming bro 🫶
Thank you bro, you a good inspiration. I will continue to learn to code everyday and hope to get a good career in the future
man means alot to me that the vids are helping atleast a little 🫶 i love to see the consistency, it will get you far my friend, keep pushing im looking forward to seeing you grow 🫡
@@LukeMadeIt I appreciate you, thank you for your words, hope to see you too grow, keep pushing and learning my friend
thank you so much ❤️ wishing the best for you aswell
very informative video i think the best first project everyone should strive for is an application that involves CRUD (Create, read, Update and delete )
very much agree! teaches you alot how applications work and its still somewhat "simple" project for a beginner 🤝
The way you edited this video is so pleasing mate! Love your progress and I'm hyped to see where you're gonna take the channel to in the future! :)
bro this really means alot because i was hella stressed about uploading this since its a little different to my usual videos 🫡 so thank you so much 🫶
@@LukeMadeIt Bro this one is by far one of the best you've uploaded! 🫶
❤️ thank you really
Hello Luke it's me again I highly agree with you personally I started with Python as well but I learned the basics nothing more to have an understanding about programming now currently I am a front end developer with HTML
CSS and JavaScript for the newbies I would choose scratch HTML in Python because besides Python HTML and scratch arent really programming languages but they help you understand programming thank you again Luke have a beautiful day
hey man! glad to see u again 🫶 for me the route was similar to you, didnt go too too deep into python but at the start the "easyness" of understanding what the code was doing when writing python definitely helped me stick to coding more!
really good tips you gave here aswell 👊 apprecite the comment lets keep building my friend 🫶
Loved your video and I really like your editing style. Just a question incase I missed it but what do you use to record?
really appreciate that bro 🫶 and haha i actually record on my iPhone 🤣 its an iphone 14 pro max but phones are so good nowadays
The scenery shots are👌🏼
thank you! i like them aswell 🫶
Luke made it again 🙌🏼
I'm currently learning web development but I'll get to python also
hey bro! if youre already on your way down the web dev road id just stick to that actually! it will hinder your progress if you switch back and forth so keep pushing the road you're going and you will do great my friend 🫶
@@LukeMadeIt okay bro, thanks 👍🏽
🫡🚀
It’s like gym, at the beginning you will grow whatever you do.
true, but to see the BIG benefits you have to stick through the long long process of consistently doing it 😈
Ive started my journey learning html and css and then JS ❤
glad to hear that bro 🫶 looking forward to seeing you win in 👊
Really liking your quick vids!
Question about the job market:
I got an internship a couple of months ago in web dev, it's only for my learning purpose, I am not being used as an unpaid intern there which is great. I do things at my own pace using React, but I'm still wondering if I can get a job after the internship. I hear that the job market is ass right now. Atleast in the US, what would you say about the situation in EU?
hey bro! i think the market is similar everywhere but tbh after your first internship getting the second one becomes alot easier so id just apply to as many as possible and try to get a paid one as the next step 👀
your current internship is still really good experience and you dont have to say it has been unpaid in your resume 🫡
@@LukeMadeIt thanks for the reply!
keep pushing my friend 🤝
thanks, it helped me
love to hear that for real ❤️
ty for this video. I saw in some comments that u did full stack open course. Did u learn js before or just start doing it after learning python?
hey bro! i personally just jumped right into it, the first video on the channel is actually about it haha 🤣 but yeah it was hard at first but i think its very doable 🫡
So true!
🫶🫶
I started with language called Skript (that's only for Minecraft), but it was more than enough to teach basics, now I'm working with Java and it was really simple to learn..
just goes to show that your first language doesnt have to be your last 🫡 i think the problem for many is that they want to "get it right" the first time but i dont know if there even is such a thing, things move fast in the tech industry and being able to adapt quickly is 🔑
Loved it, i am not a begineer at coding, but what you said is 100% accurate, in the beginning most people take a big wrong decision which might make them hate coding. Also i wanted to say the amount of caffeine you take is scaring me, i know a few are 0 calorie no sugar one's but they still have artificial sweetners which might not be good, just wanted to put this out, take care!! keep up the content
hey man! appreciate the comment! 🫶
the caffeine thing is very true lol theres days where i drink 2 energy drinks + a coca cola 💀 but on most days i just drink one in the morning before gym, this video was a friday when i usually drink 2 so i can stay up little later doing vids etc 👀
but yeah im trying to cut down on the energy drinks, getting an espresso machine 🫡
@@LukeMadeIt Ahh an espresso machine, Thats a great healthy option, consider black coffee too, its horrible in the beginning but gets better, add some sugar and try it out, because i was an addict to these drinks, but i need caffeine to survive :) so i switched to black coffee 😄
black coffee would be the ultimate goal haha its actually pretty good for fasting too 👀
Hey luke, love the vids you doing, but i have a question i mean i'm doing courses on javaScript no big deal right. but it feels like i'm not learning anything, i know the fundamentels etc but i don't know how to write it my own. so how can i fix that?
hey bro! since you already know the basic stuff why not just start building projects already? 👀 i dont think more courses will help you at this point more than building projects 🤔
just make a simple webapp with JS for now, im sure you'll learn more that way. the point of projects is to get stuck so just try to slice the project into smaller pieces and tackle each piece one by one you know
you a real one g
my fucking bro 🫶
Hi Luke, great video, I’m trying to get into coding but don’t know which programs to use or which programs to use to help me learn. Do you have any recommendations?
do you mean courses? just buy one from someone you trust or if you dont have the money check out "python mooc 2023" 🤝
Thank you!
I'd also say that you need a plan to actually use the code you create. Don't start coding just because. If you are studying or working try to think useful stuff you can do integrating code to your projects and add aditional value. Simple and functional things. This will keep you motivated and on the track.
very much fax, having clear goals is key for sticking to it for the long term 🤝
Thx buddy
love bro 🫶
Thanks bro
appreciate the comment bro
I learned c++ in hs and could write 50+ lines of code in 10-15min when i got the hang of it; now i have a pc and would like to get back into it
you definitely should if coding interests you one bit 🤝
@@LukeMadeIt idk where to start and i tried making a freecode acc but they still havent sent me the email to verify after resending like 4 times
❤
love ❤️
The best way to start is to learn how to solve problems. Beign programmer/hacker is about decision making and solving. Personally, Python or Java Script are the best for begginers because it lets you get creative with your job.
that, but also imo its important to keep the learning process as fun as possible so beginners dont quit 🤝
@@LukeMadeIt That's why Python is good. It can make failures funny. The other dangerous thing that should be noted for beginners is that they might try to enter the dark web by installing Tails.
Luke, when should you start doing leetcode? Before interview? or can you wait until later?
hey bro! if you can land interviews then leetcoding is necessary, if you cant get interviews id focus more on projects personally 🫡 projects will get you interviews and leetcode will pass you interviews
thx bro. there is a lot of bloat out there telling us "RUST, THE BEST LANG IN 2023" and it is easy as a beginner to feel the impulse of using what the best use but we need to know that coding uses a lot of similar bases throughout different languages and that we should just docus on having those fundamentals. THX LUKE and keep it up. you the real man out here giving us advice money cant really but nowadays.
bro you said it the best 👊 all the languages have similarities to other ones, its easier to learn a new language after you know another one so why not just make the learning process as easy as possible for you 🫡
really appreciate your support alot means so much to me ❤️ looking forward to seeing you excel in your journey 🤝
@@LukeMadeIt Thx bro, I'll try my hardest.
Luke, keep making it. I'll be rooting for you.

thank you ❤️ cant wait to show you what other videos i've been working on!
Many people think python is shit but thats because many people know it due to how easy it is thats why its hard to get a job through python but yk what the huge amount of libraries in python literally allow you to do anything and I think python is best for building logic and a solid base. If you want to get a challenge try to automate some things in your computer it gets as intence as to automating games like clash royal and stuff
hey bro! really good comment and i like those automation ideas you brought up! agree with you 🤝
@@LukeMadeIt Thanks man I always think coding while making games , websites , apps and bots or scripts is much more fun than just learning random commands which amount to nothing in this way you can learn while while practicing to code too.
bro thats so true, actually building something teaches you so much more too. and then you'll have done something you can be proud of aswell 👊
@@LukeMadeIt 🤝
What are examples of those 5 projects? Any page to measure complexity? Is it flappy bird game, hotel reservation room system or something X times bigger?
Have a nice day and hf :D
hey bro! i could make a video on some project ideas but cant give 5 on the spot right now haha id have to think about some good ones 😅
but for the first project something like a CRUD backend would be a great one that teaches you alot so id start there 👀
Do you still game at some point in your day or did you fully quit gaming?
i havent gamed in a long long time i like to get better at making videos on my freetime now haha its addictive 🤣
👍😀

Would you recommend CS50 ??
hey bro! i've never tried it myself so hard to say to be honest 👀 ive heard really good things about it but personally havent done it 🤔
What editing software do you use to make ur vids?
hey bro! i only use davinci resolve 18 🫡 seems to get the job done even though its free, everytime i edit a video i find some new feature in it haha highly recommend

Hey, nice video!! Do you need a video editor or a thumbnail designer? I can Help with improving the quality at a reasonable cost;
hey man! i do have someone making my thumbnails already and i used to have an editor but now i edit by myself because its so hard to tell someone else exactly what kind of video i want 🫡
@@LukeMadeIt I completely understand the challenge of conveying your creative vision to others. If you ever change your mind or need assistance in the future, don't hesitate to reach out. Good luck with your video editing!

Hey, I am Frank i from Poland. I wonder is it worth to move my life to Finland can you explain me something about good sides of living in Finland?
hey man! depends why you want to move to finland? there are good and bad sides, for example as a bad side the taxes are quite high and weather is terrible 9 months of the year 🤣 but good sides are theres alot of tech jobs and cost of living is decent
So, I want to move to one of the Scandinavian countries because the conditions in my country and society do not suit me. I would like to start working in IT as a developer. I plan to move out of Poland as soon as I finish my studies in applied computer science, in fact I have the last semester left and I'm currently writing my engineering thesis :). I got the hight taxes in my country too but the diference between Poland and Finland in my opinion is that you have better services for that.
well in that case, finland might be pretty good place to go to 👀 id try to apply to some places before moving so you can see what the job market is like beforehand 🤔
but yeah i think its pretty easy to move to finland too inside the EU so definitely do more research on it and give it a shot if you like it!
also you could just visit for a weekend or something to get the feeling of the place!
What's a music you listening to?
hey bro! you mean on my freetime or when im coding? usually when im coding i listen to techno or similar music, makes me feel like a hacker gets me in the mode you know haha
@@LukeMadeItthx bro! Good luck and keep it up
❤️
i can now code
takes months / years to get there
Can you send someone python full course
yo whatsup bro! id start with "python mooc 2023" its a free course maintained by my university and the exercises are pretty good imo 🫡
Wait wait so you get to apply for jobs after 4-5 projects?
Isn't that too few experience 😕
well heavily depends on what kind of projects, ive literally seen people get a job after 1 project but that project being huge and having real users 👀
I’d love to be a programmer but I’m so retarded, I’m just not made for it because it takes me a lot of time to understand easy concepts and I can’t fucking write code by myself without copying everything from stackoverflow 😩😩
hey man! thats just how it is at the start theres so much to learn it can feel overwhelming af but i promise that with time you will get better if you stick to it consistently 🫡🤝
I have 7 months until uni should i major in cs or just learn how to code for thèse 7 months
hey bro! my question to you is why not do both and get a headstart on the CS studies once you start 👀
@@LukeMadeIt ye but i feel like its a waste of time i could get a job with just self learning id
well i mean its possible but its a harder and longer road if you go the self taught route, just depends on your situation if uni is worth it for you or not 🤷♂️
for example here in finland uni is basically free so thats why i went
@@LukeMadeIt ye here in belgium too (however i wanna study abroad). I'm just gonna prepare myself for maths i guess cause theres a lot of it right ?
yes for studies maths is a big part and probably the hardest IMO but in real life its not needed as much so dont stress about it too too much you know
Yeah but, like why waste time with Python. It’s you’re committed, no excuses. Go to JS, and then get the job. Python is easier than JS, but JS isn’t much harder. I think, it makes more sense to learn JS and then with one language, you can go full stack.
yes if you are 100% set you want to get a web dev position as fast as humanly possible, depends what you want to do 🤷♂️ many people are not looking to become web devs either. and i dont think a month or two spent on python is going to "slow" you down too much, its just going to teach you the basics and you'll see if you even like coding in the first place
videos was very good. Not you, sitting in your room. It was interesting to watch❤
