Well, It's pretty much something that I've been debating for a several years now. I've always enjoyed this show, for some reasons that I can't really explain, I've watched every seasons and kind of grew up with these characters, It was always something nice that came out every now and then. I thought that now this is over, I'd give a little tribute to the original characters. Enjoy this, If like me, you enjoyed the show all these years.

I am heartbroken. Their ending has left me feeling empty and confused. I'm sure in time I will come to accept it, but as of now, it hurts. A lot. I loved their scenes this season, but I felt it was short-lived with all the catastrophic events that took place, and eventually pulled them in different directions. I'll forever appreciate their relationship as a reminder for us all; to not give up.
You can't have everything in this life and it's really up to you to change and perhaps even help someone else. That's what invited their relationship to soar. Maeve saw Otis as a light, shining down a blackened furnace that kept her chained to a life, caused by the inaction of others. She spent her whole life neglecting her own happiness, to keep herself secure from affection, and to avoid feeling the effects of her past residual heartbreak.
It's not until she met Otis that she realised how much damage she was afflicting to others, but most importantly; to herself. It's part of the reason she shut herself down and failed time and again to impart her true feelings to the world. I know that most of us wanted them to stay together at the end, but maybe the idea was for us to see the reality behind a genuine connection.
It's not all perfect. It's not all sunshine and rainbows. It's hard work and takes a considerable amount of effort from both people for a relationship to thrive and grow. They both grew in their own ways, and learned a lot about each other through their experiences, even if it wasn't always black and white.
I'm not going to say something soppy like 'they were made for each other' (they were though - I am a romantic) because what really brought them together was nothing further than luck and patience. Quite a lot of life is luck, but it's how we choose to act and react to those around us that count; and even helps us to meet new people. It takes time to build new relationships, but what I've learned is to show up and be there for when that person needs you.
Otis saw Maeve past all the negativity that had shrouded her character, and led her down a dark, blistering road of isolation. He saw her for who she really was, deep down; a lovelorn romantic. She loved Jane Austen, The Brontë Sisters, and undervalued authors like Sylvia Plath or Virginia Woolf.
When she told Otis she loved him, she let down all of her walls, every emotional blockade had been stripped and she maximised her vulnerability to feel everything she had wanted to feel for her whole life. That's why she pursued her course; her dream to decide. That's the fundamental reason she chose herself over the boy she would love for the rest of her life.
Always remember that she will love Otis and make herself happy at the same time. They will always love each other through it all.
This masterly edit and song choice flows seamlessly and I am so happy this exists. Also, be happy that all of us got to experience their journey and we lived to see it through, even if the outcome wasn't necessarily what we expected.
For me, Sex Education came at a difficult time and I've always appreciated its whimsical, and mischievous narrative, with a dark undertone.
I've learned a lot from it and as Maeve once said in a farewell letter to Otis: "Meeting you cracked my heart open, and now it's forever changed. And because of that, I will carry a part of you wherever I go. I think what I'm trying to say is... thanks for everything."
Thanks for reading and I hope you all go on to live fantastic lives.

I truly feel the same way. But I think the writers should have let them have a happy ending together. It's not like Meave couldn't finish her course and pursue her dreams in the UK. Even if she wanted to leave Moordale they could build a life not far from it. That way wouldn't have to leave Jean, Joy and Eric behind and neither would Meave have to leave Aimee, Isaac, Anna, Elsie (wich is really hard to believe she would never see again and leave behind like that when so much of her traumas and difficulties in life where created by family leaving her behind) and even people wich contributed for the pursuit of her dreams like Otis, Miss Sands and most recently Jean.
I know that Remy is kind of an a**hole but he did give Otis great advice in season 2. "When you meet the people that love you dispite your faults, you should hold on to them really, really tightly". And even if either of them had to sacrifice something (like tt is said in one of my favourite movies) "there is the bravery of thinking on others before themselves" and sometimes people "make many sacrifices for their families and put aways many dreams" and even if we cannot make these dreams come true, "sometimes we take them out of the drawer and admire them. But it gets harder and harder to close that drawer but in the end we do" for the people we love.
My only problem with the season is that I feel like they will never be happy or have a love like this again because the last time we saw Meave and Otis they were sad and almost depressive. I know that it's not always sunshine and rainbows but it almost never was with them and because of that I wish we got to see those sunshine and rainbows for the last time as a bitter sweet ending.
Just like you, I will always carry a part of this show and it's characters with me, from some of the lessons Otis learned to become a better man and try not to hurt others to the ones where the Groffs learn to express their feelings more and be more open with each others.
I love this show and it's characters with all my heart and that's why I hope one day we will see a special episode or like a 3 episode special where we learn what they are currently up to and that Meave and Otis got together.
I do agree that in this season, we lost a great deal more than what we gained. Maeve living out her dream in the US was always going to affect her relationship with Otis, which had a knock-off effect towards her own relationship with her family. Sean said it himself: "It doesn't even matter anyway. You're just going to go back to your fancy little life in America, and forget I exist." I do believe that Otis, deep down was worried that Maeve would forget about him. Throughout Season 4, he became more anxious, which led him back to his Season 1 self and even the subject of Maeve, caused a rift between him and Eric again. Otis had struggled throughout his adolescence because of mismatched order and stability within his family unit. His father abandoned him, and then Jakob left, despite his solemn pledge he wouldn't leave.
Time and again, Otis was in fact, the innocent culprit, who was barraged for his behaviour, but had persistently struggled with his identity and fed off the energy of others to try and fit in. Life to him, was a series of closing doors. He struggled with anxiety, and it definitely manifested itself into depression when Maeve's revelation to leave again, came to light. It didn't help when Jean, yet again interfered with his life. Jean encouraging Maeve to return to the US was the right thing to do, but it left Otis feeling disconnected and isolated from his loved ones. His persistent anger and rage stemmed from his childhood trauma, because he still, most likely has abandonment, as well as trust issues.
When he gazes out the window after reading Maeve's letter, we can visibly connect with his anguish. He isn't happy at the end. He is intensely feeling the effects of his heartbreak and disconnection from his peers, but more so from himself.
Eric, Adam, Aimee, Viv, Jackson, Ruby and Isaac each got their happy ending, even though they all suffered along the way. Maeve will continue to pursue her dreams and Otis will be remembered as the boy who suffered.
Even though they can't be together, I want to believe they will, at some point reunite, because Otis has suffered far too much. They will always love each other, but they just aren't around each other to fully express it.

Maeve will always love Otis, because he was a shining light for her blossom in terms of character.
Otis will always love Maeve, because she was the one that encouraged him to start the clinic & made him realise that he's very good at it.
Unfortunately, this is where life steps up & says "you can't have it all", so both separate in order to pursue their dreams, but both of them deep inside know their silent love for each other will remain forever.

After all these seasons and episodes of Motis, them finally searching their feelings for one another, finally being a couple in Season 4, just for it to end the way that it did, it hurts a lot. The ending left me empty and let down. They deserved to be with one another 😔

Maeve wearing and keeping that shirt is why she fits with Otis. Closer to soul mates. She is kindest person in series except for Amy. Otis is basically a kind person but his insecurities make him not kind at times. Ruby is growing into a kinder version in season 4- encourages Otis in relating to Marvecat her own expense, expresses sympathy to Maeve at loss of her mom. If she continues to grow there could be some some hope for her with Otis. Being at the same school , there will be plenty of opportunity to interact

They should’ve stayed together till the last scene. Their last moment together was too heartbreaking. Especially the buildup for the entire 4 seasons of the if they’re gonna end up together or not. Whenever I think about this show it makes me depressed cause of it 😂😂

Who cares about the ending.
We all grew up watching the show and we loved it. All the drama, emotions and break-ups - We all felt what they were going through. With the show ending - I will always remember and love the show, we waited so long since the start of season 1 for Otis and Maeve to get together which they did.
Just remember - Nothing always ends in a happy way, which the show did in the best way they could for it to make sense.
Well they are 17 year olds you dont find the one at 17 and so yes the ending is one i am completely fine with it but man they really couldn't give them atleast one perfect thing like that date ffs i hated Joanna for that

While I 99% expected them to end the way they did, I still think ep7 should have been ep 8, mainly in terms of ending
Damn why did I watch this. Now it hurts double. Otis and Meave should have been able to work it out and be happy together in the end. I feel like everyone had a resolution exept them, it feels like they will never love like this again and that hurts. It's not like they couldn't have made it work long distance until Meave got back to the UK and maybe gotten a scholarship to study in a university or became a writer een with some tips from Jean or recomended publishers and Otis could set up his clinic and they could still be together. I know Meave always wanted to leave Moordale like she said but the UK is big and neither of them needed to leave something behind. It's just sad and hard to deal with the fact that this will be the last new content of these beloved characters and they will never get a resolution. Worst of all I feel like Otis has nothing besides Eric and Jean. He lost the love of his life, his clinic, he does not have that many friends and he looks depressed for most of the last episode including the final shot. I know the writers were probably a bit cornered up in some ways but they should have allowed Otis and Meave to be happy for once since they been through so much.

We need a format like a short story, like Elite but with more time to watch the story of Otis & Maeve, and what happened next. At least 30 min, 45 min, or 1 hour.
First i fell for them and then felt for them , out here our life is not much different as the show brings us together but at end we all lost same after schooling or college.....since childhood I'm a very quiet introvert and trying to understand the surroundings...back then i was like s born child who wanders about it, as days years are passing by the mean of sports I'm getting closer to few friends and girls but never said what i suppose to.... eventually doesn't matter after school all aparts like f****ing shit , few stays but no friends are like my type so i left them , I always wish to have friend like Eric and gf like Ruby 😉😀hehehehe the show really shows how terrible you feel after you change college or school or when it overs just like ruby felt it's really hard to stay build relationships where you being bullied or quiet....i couldn't stop myself with those thousands thought and bursting feelings... friendship never stays with me like i wanted that's the terrible experience for teenagers....btw thx to few friends who thought me to be a fun guy but instead i become fictional fun guy most of them thinks kids mind in my school but i don't care still in college but no friends it's over for me I can't make more ....

Omg this song is perfect for them!!!! I never saw the show but I've binged a lot of edits and they were my favourite.
Binged the last season TWICE!! Loved It and unfortunately called it. Maeve and Otis were just never meant to be, it was interesting though seeing how it played out because normally in YA content love between the main couple is just this thing that conquers all, but in this case its more about meetings and change which is a good way to bring the story forward.
I think I'm just going to interpret the ending my own way as if there was going to be a season 5 down the line.
Both now in mid-late 20's, they find each other once again and that spark is rekindled. They had time apart to grow as people and achieve some of the dreams they had. Maeve becomes a writer (while not hugely successful yet, her book/s are gaining notoriety, leading to an eventual successful career). Otis is doing his therapy/teaching journey and has matured as a man, although he still has many of his awkward tropes.
Something draws them back together - Maeve comes back to Moordale (press junket maybe for her book?) and her and Otis reconnect. All those years apart, and their connection is once again instant. This time around, they actually have the time to try and make this relationship work, and despite a couple bumps (there has to be for the sake of entertaining TV) they make it work finally.
This wouldn't take away from Season 4's ending I believe, as they both needed that time apart and a clean break to become the people they wanted to become. As much as it sucks, they needed to go there own ways at this end so that they could develop into better versions of themselves. That spark will always be there between them, and them finding each other down the line where they are both in better positions mentally would allow them to finally explore that love between them without something getting in the way.
And of course, if this were to be a season 5, we'd get to catch up with all the other characters. But yeah, this to me personally is how Sex Education ends. Even if we never get to see a season 5 like this, this is how I'd like it to go.

To me, the ending of season 4 is clear that they both some time to grow up apart before they find each other again. The super happy ending of them being together wasnt what they needed. Maeve needs her freedom and Otis needs to figure out what he wants. I loved the ending.
What a horrible last season, the best thing was the rector saying " What a huge waste of time", the whole season in one sentence.

Just finished watching it and all I have to say is that it was a beautiful ending. I cried so many scenes in that show.
I don't get why the hate but in reality not everything always has a happy ending.
I think most people would have liked the season if at least Otis and Meave were allowed to have been happy. It's the last time we will see content with these characters that we love and they were both looking depressed. Otis lost both the clinic and the love of his life. It feels like they could have made it work long distance until Meave came back to the UK and went to uni or became a writer. I know she wanted to leave Moordale but the UK is pretty big. Plus, it's hard to belive that Meave whose problems were always because she was left behind would leave her new found family (Aimee, Otis, Hannah, Elsie, Isaac, Sean) and even the characters that inspired her (Jean, Miss Sands) and never come back. She could still have chased her dreams and even Jean could have helped her with some book publishers if she ever needed them. Sending Meave off the way they did specially while she was still grieving seems a bit forced. Imo the writers should have allowed Meave and Otis to be happy together after all they have been through and make it work so that neither of them had to leave their own lives behind. I don't in any way hate the ending, but I think it would have been better if they got a proper resolution and a proper send off because, like in the scene that Meave said to Sean that she wouldn't want to see her mother because when she saw her uncle dead and disfigured she started to forget what he looked like before, I think fans will always remember Otis and Meave as the "will they won't they couple, that ended up depressed and sad" instead of the characters that we came to love and rooted for so long.
@@luissimoes2645 for me this is an open ending. From my expirience i know, you cant close such relationship in one night. Hope dies last and this was already love thru big L, not some school crush. In 25 21 dramma (netflix) they closed it by showing characters 20y later. Here everything is possible and for me this would be happy ending in few years as there is no real showstoper.

Sure, the ending was realistic. But when you spend more than half the show pulling a "Will they, won't they" situation, it all feels like it went to waste just for the main ship to not even be endgame or hell even an implied endgame?? If anything, they basically told us that Maeve and Otis are probably not going to speak anymore. WHAT THE HELL?
i think the letter saved the ending for me. it really did feel like “OH CMON MAN 😭” but the letter really saved it. i was in tears by the end of it. he changed her life forever and im sure they’ll be together again in the future
I think you're looking too deep into the idea that the ending is saying that they 100% wont ever be together. To me it's intentionally ambiguous and the realism of the ending is completely in line with sex educations take on growing up
@@mk6alex If anything I think the letter made it more depressing for me. I like that it comes full circle with Otis' letter in season 1 saying that Meave changed his life and now it is the other way around, but I feel like they will never love like that again. I like to imagine that in the future Meave came back to the UK, went to uni or became a writer and Otis went to uni or started a clinic and they lived happily together. It didn't have to be in Moordale because Meave wanted to leave but I would rather if it was beacuse that is where Otis has his family (Jean, Hope and Eric) and where Meave has her family (Aimee, Hannah, Elsie, Isaac and even Miss Sands who was very important for her to believe in herself).

The ending of Maeve and Otis is absolutely wrong. I'm rewatching sex education after finishing the fourth season, and I can't understand how they came up with this ending. Throughout the series, from the first episode, we are made to understand how important both of them are to each other, first as friends. Otis immediately falls in love with her; he can't stop thinking about Maeve. Yes, there have been other people in his life, just as there have been others for Maeve, but as Otis says in season 3: it has always been her.
In the second season, Otis's father tells him to hold on to the people he cares about, and there are a lot of other similar details within the series. At the beginning of the fourth season, Maeve is in America, and they have a long-distance relationship, which excluding some problems, works. When Maeve comes back, they have a short time together, and the thing that makes me angry is just this: the two main characters going on through the seasons had less and less time together. And the whole thing ends with them breaking up. I've heard people say that this is "realistic."
Sorry, but what the fuck? Eric sees and talks to God, all the other characters have happy endings, though some unclear, but the two fucking main characters, who have been supporting each other for 4 seasons, can't be happy? Can't Maeve, who has been abandoned by everyone, who has had too much sadness and loneliness in her life, end her story happily?
And I'm not saying she shouldn't have followed her dream, on the contrary, it's an incredible evolution for her character to finally get closer to the possibility of being a writer, but that's not the right way for me. In the third one the two of them decide to have a long-distance relationship, why was it different now? Why couldn't they? Even if Maeve did not want to stay in Moordale, she was bound to go back there for Elsie, to remember her mother, for Aimee, and so the relationship with Otis could have quietly worked out.
Maybe it wasn't going to last forever, and that's totally fair, but at this time in their lives they were perfect to be together, and the writers ruined it. Also because Otis now has not even had a decent ending: he is literally on his own, he has almost no reason to stay in Moordale, so what would have been the problem with going to America? His mother, yes, but as is said several times in the early seasons, Otis is not going to live there forever, and he has to become independent, he can't stay tied to his mother forever. And I think she would have perfectly accepted that. Otis doesn't even have the clinic anymore, he has nothing. You can't end the story of the main character of a four-season series like that. He didn't have an ending, he simply became a little less timid than in the first season. So what?
Maeve has changed a lot, and I'm happy about that, it's beautiful the fact of the writer, but even for her they didn't give us any hints about what she's going to do in the future. Will she actually succeed in writing her book? What will it be like to be in America? What about her sister? Also, with the death of her mother, Maeve needed more than ever to have someone to support her, as Otis's mom says. Instead, the writers decided to leave her alone. Senseless. Four seasons completely flushed down the drain. I hope in the future we will see a special, a movie, a spin-off, anything that can give a real conclusion to Maeve and Otis, because this is not the way Sex education can be concluded.

I have read and heard that the writer of the series has said that they are trying to make a sequel series, and that it will be set 10 years from season 4's events. She has said that she has a preference that Maeve comes back to Moordale and that her and Otis rekindle their relationship. I am not as angry about the series ending because I seriously did not think that when Maeve left at the end of season 3 that they would get back together. The one thing I have always thought was brilliant about the writing of this series is the realistic observation of each issue and situation. I think if the writer has her way the story will be a more authentic storyline.
Yeah, same perception. Forced, unrealistic, definitely prepared for spin off. I was in such situation and cant relate here.. too fast and no logic (like really what with her sister for example, what with Otis father's words in season 2. Moved out of town - ok, and what, is this end of world?)
I aint reading all of that but the ending between them was amazingly written unlike the final season so how are you even pointing that out... U think highschool relationships last? get out of ur dreams kiddo. College can end relationships but it cannot remove the impact it did on ones life neither the memories and lessons that came w it

There are air of people saying they were disappointed with the ending and I don’t think I was they were both going in different places but that doesn’t dismount the fact that they were each others first loves
Disagree, Maeve was, but Otis definitely wasn't. He moved on from her because he has no other choice, as he said he doesn't want to end up like his mother. But it wasn't his choice to do that. It was Maeve's choice to leave Otis behind and move forward. Just my personal opinion but Maeve doesn't love Otis as much as Otis loves Maeve.

I hate so much that every damn season had a bad ending, First she found him kissing Ola, Second Isaac deletes the "I love u message", Third she leave to America and finally they break up forever. But thats life I guess.

Im a few eps in thew final season, but damn, im gonna miss this show's courage, honesty, and brutally unapoligetic love letter to LGBT and Sex in this uptight world. My only regret, is we didnt get a David Duchovney love interest cameo with Gilian Anderson.

@@irris-ray yeah you’re right. They could’ve tried it. She is in America but she will also come back some day, even just for vacation. Otis also could have visited her. The letter and ending up their relationship was a bit selfish and probably too early. She didn’t have them a chance. But going back to America was the right decision.
@@irris-ray its NEVER selfish to follow one's heart and dreams. What selfish is for loved ones and friends to stand in the way of that and be anything less than supportive! If theres a message this show conveys over the 4 seasons is that its okay to be awkward, different, "weird", Silly, Sexual, L G B AND T. To believe in yourself, dont be affraid to express yourself and sexuality, dont be affraid to LIVE and Live in the way YOU see fit, and not by the parameters or limits the world wants to lay upon us, to marginalize us. Otis and Maeve and Aimee and Ruby and Cal and all of them will LIVE and BE their true authentic selves. Thats what life is about. Freedom is about. Joy is about! And in the case of the parents- Never too late to CHANGE!

I was disappointed in that too. Although, Whilst a happy ending in a way, Im glad it wasnt the overused "everything works out perfectly in the end" ending. It left us with hope for all the characters though.

I stopped watching episode 1 season 4. Otis is an absolute prick! All his heartaches are of his doing. Show was fun at times but he always ruined it with his stupid ways
