I’m so glad your going to keep her as original as possible . I dislike unnecessary modifications and I hate hot rods. Thank you fellas ,your the best !
Second that. These guys really do it right. It's not quite jealousy I feel when I look at this shop because I'm happy these good young guys have it. But I can't help but wish I had a century-old ford dealership too.
I see a role for both, but with age I too am getting away from speed, and if they have numbers matching components and original paint etc, there is good reason to keep them together, at least when that old and rare; but when you don't have the original engine, trans and/or paint, you might as well put in what you want, and I feel like some of those old colors are pretty bland.
Also, any original components you can take out and carefully store, won't wear out as you put miles on the car and enjoy better and/or more modern components. then they are ready to bolt back in at museum time.
And seat belts. They had no seat belts.

You fellows have a beautiful time capsule in that 48. A real testament to when manufacturers took pride in their cars. Congratulations.
Seeing them at the desk in the end I realized all these years later I'm still watching The Red Green Show! (Sincerely meant to be a complement!)
What a truly sweet car . The styling is beautiful . What a nice survivor. That can’t be original paint though.
Seeing you Jim , in many CWM clips , almost makes me expect to see Scott , stick his head out from behind a door or just visible through a window .
Again , nice ride ! She sure is a cream puff !
Jim made an appearance on Saturday's show!
What a beauty!
To think that car was a 25 to 30 year old car when it was parked kind of mind blowing.
What a sweet sound when she fires right up and purrs like a kitten. You guys are doing great and I think your channel will keep growing.
What would be cool is if you had shirts, but it would have to be a plaid t-shirt with Strong's Garage on the front and "Oh..Yeah..Yeah" on the back. Really enjoy the channel.
Sounds really good! Astonishing for a car that has sat for 46 years.
Who ever owns that beautiful piece of art PLEASE LEAVE IT JUST THE WAY IT IS. You cannot improve on perfect.
The sound of that beautiful old Chevy just makes my heart smile! Great goin guys! Keep it up!
That engine runs like new. Beautiful!
Thanks for honking. I always wonder what the horn sounds like and rarely do folks remember to let the viewers hear it
I see some really good things coming from this channel. Great old car.
I'm a happy camper.Nice hanging out with you guys.Thanks.
Incredible. What a car. When cars were simple, beautiful and built to last.
Great Job guys, just needs the Strongs Garage logo on the doors like the ol service station shop cars back in the day...good stuff
love the sound of that stovebolt 6
Wow! She's purring like a kitten. Great job guys!
My first car in 1973 was a '48 Chevy Fleetline Aerosedan same color as yours. Foolish as a 16-year-old kid is, I wanted the visor off and it painted blue. Seeing your car, I am so sorry I did that, although it was pretty nice. Oh, it was a $50 car showing 80K. It was so trashed I'm sure it was 180K...at least. Had the vacuum shift. Worked sporadically, but was like butter shifting when it worked. I didn't have the money to do it right. Got the engine overhauled, new clutch, brakes, painted and upholstered. but there was still PLENTY to do when I got rid of it. I was just a broke 19-year-old then. Came close to a break-even on the sale. Had a lot of fun. Like your channel!
What a nice car and that's coming from a ford lover. Gr8 video.
What a beautiful car, guys!! As a Chevy fun, I really love when these old beaties are saved. Here's to another 74 years of running!
Just something about those old Chevy stovebolt 6s. No matter their condition, they pretty much always run.
I can’t wait for you to pull this in over at Scott’s place. He will love taking it for a spin with you. That ‘53 is awesome too. One of my favorite cars ever is the ‘53 Ford. You do find some sweet rides. Almost to 7K now. I hope you streeettch to the 10K mark very soon. Good luck. 👍 x 💯
Jim can say so many words all while giving a big smile and not even moving his lips. Ventriloquist like.
Guys, CONGRATULATIONS !!! I WOULD lightly modify the exhaust for tone and for whatever power increase you can get. Just clean the engine and engine bay, a not-too aggressive cleaning of the interior and just drive it on nice days. Will be a fine cruise companion for a certain 1937 Chevrolet a certain person owns!!
Looking forward to see this car on the road.
Congratulations, guys. You did good!
That thing runs awesome! Can't wait to see it going down the road with blocks and dual pipes! Might want to take a gander at those engine mounts though. I had a couple of those stovebolt engines rock back and forth like that while starting/revving. Both times it was the motor mounts at the bellhousing, on one the mounts were completely disintegrated, and the other car the bolts were just all finger tight.
The Chevy runs great. I'm looking forward to the next video.
I hope you give yourselves and everyone in the shop a raise!!! Good work!!!
That is one fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine automobile you have there, gents. I love the 1940s Chev straight six engine sound and the styling back then was something special. You can't beat it. As to enhancements, if it were me, I'd only do that which was done in the period to get a few extra herbs out of the beast. A decent 1 and 7/8th exhaust would help her breathe and if the dual exhaust manifold was a period accessory, then I'd definitely do that.
In case you didn't see it, it looked as though she was starting to run a bit warm (between 180 and 220) when Jim went in for the second look with the camera after she'd been idling for a while. I also noticed the radiator core was still bubbling up through the tubes before you tried starting her, so maybe the old cooling system needs a good flush to get the build-up of many years of sitting out of her.....and did she get a new thermostat? I can't recall....
In any case, it was lovely to see her wind over and kick a cylinder on the first try after you found some spark and it didn't take many more to have her running on most of them, with the wayward ones following suit soon after. Turns over a lot more evenly after that too. It'd a vehicle I would be proud to have in my own garage here in New Zealand and you've done a great job getting her looking and running as well as she is already. Looking forward to being taken for a ride in her (via webcam!) when you have her all legal again!
All the best
Good for you guys love that color green😎
what a peach, orginals are hard to find, let alone a survivor you guys lucked out that the engine didn't knock and everything seems to work.
don't go to nuts with the chev but have fun with it and enjoy a piece of history when cars were built to last and/or be repaired to provide many years of comfort and fun on trips
Very nice running stovebolt there .
Also , your channel is up over 180,000 views in around 6 weeks ,
coming up on 7,000 subs
chugging along , you are doing it right ,
fit Dean up with some loud plaid for a cameo or something ...lol
Oh wow..my dad had one of those mechanical floor jacks. Haven't seen one in 30 years. Brings back memories!
That rig is a true beauty!!! It obviously went to the right garage. If I owned her, my buttons would be popping off my flannel with pride! Great work!!!
You have the cleanest and most organized garage I have ever seen.
congratulations you successfully saved a time capsule! And had fun to. ALL stay safe thank you
What a gem....you guys are awesome....what a find mate....Don't forget to do more of these types of videos, I could watch this all day...cheers Dave in Australia 🇦🇺
I love seeing these old things firing up. Thanks for sharing your progress on another classic coming to life! Jim, your humor kills me! Nice work guys!
Hey guys great work! Ahh the benefits of a car that lived indoors most of it's life, eh? You know what would be EXTREMELY fitting here is if you two had some of those old style service stickers printed up & put em on the nicer 'shop' cars as you go thru them. Then they'd also be available if customers wanted one as well - just a thought. (For Jim, might be a way of keeping those guys honest - lol.) Looking forward to more.
Though I generally like the colors of the boogie van era in the mid '70's, I think the most underappreciated car ever was the Ford Maverick, which really carried on the original Mustang look and size when the Mustang grew, and then directly competed with and to some extent upstaged the Mustang II. Maverick was the coolest 4 door ever and I so wish they had made a Maverick wagon. I like sport wagons in general including Pinto and Valiant, especially panel sided wagons originally made for delivery and later like little boogie vans, more common in England.
cheers!
getting better with every episode. nice car. I'm still looking for a fastback version of that.
Pure joy.
There's something about the sound of an inline 6 with open exhaust
that always makes me smile. Cuz my neck is red, I guess.
Absolutely stunning car. Keep it up guys. Still love Jim's daily......well all of his fleet......but the ol Fords rule.
The 48 Chevy is major cool and I think splitting the exhaust is a good idea. One of the things that I enjoyed when I first started watching your video's was the music. However, I enjoy it just the way it is too.
Awesome car! And good work on reviving it, too. I really like how you make the videos so far - simple, no nonsense style. Next time check if the radio in that old boat works. Those old vacuum tubes need a workout too.
What a sweet 48 Chevy guys. Great job glad you two are having fun!! Really enjoying your channel keep. it up
Runs like a sewing machine! Nice work!
I love older vehicles because it's generally one of a handful of things wrong if it won't crank 😂 I can't work on anything too new because I'm not savvy with the significantly more advanced stuff in vehicles, so I stick to simpler, older vehicles 😂
Except that THAT red bull will give ya wings and a harp to go with it! LOL! Love your videos and that old Chevy, just wish the volume was consistent. Halfway through the video I had to crank the speakers because the volume kept getting lower & lower. It sure was sweet to her that engine fire off and run on it's own!
That engine is sweet as a nut. So smooth and quiet even without a muffler. Amazing considering semi-modern 4 cylinder engines sound like a top fuel dragster when they come into our shop with a stolen catalytic converter. What a lovely car. My only comment on video quality is to work on the sound a bit. Thanks for the video.
What a lovely car. So far anything you have done is worth watching so I guess, just keep doing what you do. Thanks guys.
Great stuff, guys. Lovely to see the old '48 running. Love to see more of this kind of repair and restoration.
Congratulations guys, she runs like a top!!
Put a muffler on it and take it for a burn over to CWM.
Smartest thing you did was turn it over a few times before firing to move the oil around to loosen it up. A few heat cycles and a short drive to loosen things might scare away the cobwebs. Cheers!!
Really like the inline six sound. Also it seems a well balanced engine. Should be a nice summer showdown with Scotts Chevy.
Fantastic car! CWM fan here. You guys are doing a terrific job!
Awesome. I'd put a cherry bomb style glass pack on it. I'd also change at least the drivers side engine mount too- it does seem to wobble more than it should when it was hard cranking,
You guys are going to have a successful UA-cam channel keep up the hard work it will get easier nice old 48 beautiful condition
Absolutely fantastic ! I enjoyed this video. My uncle had one of these when I was a kid, he would load 7-9 of us in it and drive us to a paved road and fly. Probably never went over 40. But hey, our lives were traveling dirt roads at the speed of a horse, mule or old ford pickup doing maybe 15 mph maximum. I love those memories of feeling like I was in a race car. LOL.
Great video, you reminded me with that saw, the yobs can't steal your "cat" if it doesn't have one.
Had a 48 Tudor Sedan back in the 70's. The guy I bought it from had purchased it in the midwest and drove it back to San Francisco where I purchased it from him. He "adjusted" the valves to quiet them down along the way and burnt a few so it was a bear to start. Needed ether to get it going. Did the valves and it ran really good but had a NASTY clutch chatter. Had a silver grey "repaint" that would oxidize really bad over time but would come back with LOTS of elbow grease and a "Blue Coral kit. Over that big sedan body, quite the chore. Vacuum shift too!! Sold it a few years later and bought a 40 Ford Tudor that I still have. Motor was removed and in pieces on that one. It's being turned into a Street Rod. with the original paint and lots of primer.
Your car sounds GREAT !!! 👍👍👍🛠⚙🔩✌
Glad she runs so well for you!
The car really suits Jim. So nice to hear it fire off and run. 2x👍
The old girl runs strong. Awesome car and looking forward to more work to be done on it. Beautiful car!
Keep finding more old Chevys, Love the old six bangers. You two have a winner with your new channel, thanks!!!
Congrats on getting the Chevy running always a great feeling It’s alive
Woo hoo! It runs! Great job guys!
Congratulations 🎊 👏 guys! Now you need to drive it!
Nice old chevy runs great. Enjoy your show keep up the good work 👍
You two are must see on UA-cam
You got nothing to apologize for. I loved your Video. You and Scott are the only ones I watch anymore....and Scott sent me here.
All it needs is a Fenton split manifold and dual exausts! Todd the retired trucker.
Imho one of the sharpest cars Chevrolet or any manufacturer ever made
Great job guys ! Such a beautiful car !
Lovin' the channel, guys! Keep up the good work.
Great job guys. That is an awesome car and nice to see it running and looking so good. I kind of thought when you were adjusting the idle that is was going to be too low. They don't make them like that anymore. Now a days you would be lucky to find the carb haha
You guys are awesome. I feel like I'm watching an episode of the old "Red Green Show."
Good to see the old Chevy running way to go
Give yerselves the rest o'the day off, fellas! That's a good day's work right there
I would be afraid to drive that at nite worrying about deer running out and bugering up a fender, such a treasure to own.
I had bought a sedan version of this car inprimer before, 216 Carter carb like yours and all. Outer grille bars done in body color but the Center ribs left chrome, like a poor man’s attempt at pre war kustom caddy lasalle grille. The fenders were smoothed, given 51 Chevy bel air headlight rings and 51 Buick tail lights, turned horizontal. Had my buddy pinstripe the dash after a brown cloverdale respray and painted the firewall cream. Found the air cleaner from a 59 ford station wagon with inline 6, modified he opening to work better as it became low slung in that application and bought it a wolf whistle as well. Prime chicker picker upper!
Really like how you edit and fast forward on footage. you two do a great job with recording and explaining what you're doing.
Beautiful. Excellent work!
Loving your channel and looking forward to following along with this and future projects!👍
I like what you are doing. A bit more detail about the vehicle mechanics, how things were done back then and closer camera work would be nice. Many of these cars were just cheap used cars when I was young. Baling wire was a major component in most repairs. Curious about what the right way looks like.
That old runs beautifully. Congratulations
Bob and Doug would be proud!
Great videos! Cheers from Ontario
Excellent work guys!!
Thoroughly enjoyable. Cheers.
Brilliant. What a beautiful car and it couldn't be in safer hands. Lovely to hear and see.
Great job guys, I just came across your channel a while ago and have enjoyed this project. Will be nice to see this cruising on the road again. Toronto.
Good show, keep up the good work! Not many sixes left these days, or not at the car shows anyway!! Young folks could easily think the V8 was always available since thats what you see in most old cars!
What a great machine!
Randy Jordan from Raymore Saskatchewan. You guys ard fun to watch.Enjoying all the vintage stuff! Thanks!
Trying to decide if silent time lapse is better or worse than royalty free music. Hard choice.
Keep up the good work, and keep videoing these projects. This is good stuff for car guys who care about the things instead of just wanting the flash and show.
You have one fender covered up to protect the paint, and a metal toolbox sitting right on the other while you start it up.
