- These are Super 8 sound movies by Robert Wilt copied to Hi8 tape. Keep in mind the 50' film reels that went in the camera only ran three an a half minutes, so it usually wasn't possible to film the entire train.
More precise locations sought! Most of these scenes were taken along the Lehigh Valley between Scranton and Allentown, Pennsylvania. There is one quick scene of the Pittsburg & Shawmut (ed. note: Bath & Hammondsport, not P&S), and the CNJ commuter scenes are at Somerville, NJ. The very last shot is somewhere between Phillipsburg and High Bridge.
Robert Wilt's D&H films are featured in John Pechulis Media's "Railfanning the Delaware & Hudson Volume 2" (link to purchase at the bottom of this comment). I am not affiliated with John Pechulis Media, and they pay me nothing to advertise. I'm very glad Robert Wilt's D&H movies have been properly digitized and preserved.

🎶Whole lotta shaking going on 🎶🤣🤪0:14
I enjoyed watching the D&H Baldwin Sharks running on the Sayre turn!
Very nice collection of clips, most are somewhat local to me so I can help with some spots:
0:20 - might be the D&H/LV Sayre Turn at Tioga Center, NY
1:17 - might be near Barton NY, shot off the EL main where they bridge over the LV branch
1:43 - is the returning Sayre Turn just east of Barton, NY
3:38 - is in Owego, NY of them swinging onto the EL main to run to Binghamton.
9:30 - is on the LV at Penobscot, PA
10:27 - is on the Bath & Hammondsport somewhere
10:55 - might be near Barton, NY
11:40 - is a Sayre Turn arriving in Sayre, PA (LV shops on left)
12:40 - is a NB LV train out of Coxton Yard (maybe within a mile or so north of it)
13:56 - the two trains are at the rock cut near Glen Onoko, PA just north of Jim Thrope PA
16:05 - SB D&H on the other side of that rock cut neat Glen Onoko
Fun's sentional wow
Wonderful soundz
great stuff! love seeing those sharks in action!
Thank you for sharing. Enjoyed.👍👀
Those Baldwins look really modern for the time.
These clips in super 8 sound are quite a treat to view! And the first time I’ve seen those shark nose units on film.
Epic shots!
Oh my god, I love this stuff! :D
And to think, this was 50 years ago, already! The dying gasps before Conrail. Too much infrastructure, too little revenue. Something painful had to be done.
My goodness gracious, why can't we ride on old passenger coaches anymore? They would be so damn comfortable and beautiful, much better than the Amfleet coaches on the NEC.
nice
May i ask where you acquired the source footage?
I was tasked with digitizing Todd Miller's collection (of Clear Block Productions fame) after he died in 2010. These were master tapes of films from Bob Wilt copied to Hi8 tape used for Vignettes of the D&H.
Is the track still in use?
Most of what's seen here I believe is still in use.
