Love the shit eating grin... don't see many idi's around anymore let alone built ones. Very cool build. You also sound and look like you know your stuff. On Behalf of all the the drive way warriors out there, We salute you 👏
Very nice! The only thing I could suggest for your truck is switch from a K&N filter to a pleated paper element filter. They filter better and you shouldn't notice any difference in airflow with one of a similar size. You should be able to find one that will just clamp on to your intake pipe like the K&N. Other than that enjoy your truck, nice to see some love given to the old Fords.
running an idi non turbo, it's got pulling power for days no reason to look to a turbo setup yet.. cool that some guys are going that route with these.
@Babylon falling okay well I was just looking at building a mild idi factory turbo I'm interested why you say that. I see no reason why a turbo would reduce engine life if you're not pushing ridiculous psi
@Babylon falling Ooh I see what you mean. Yep I agree I definitely wouldn't push an n/a idi like that being that they're built much weaker than the factory turbo ones. I got a 90 idi 5spd 4x4 rclb dually and it pulls 10-12 thou pretty reasonably. I was just thinking about putting a bigger turbo and pump along with head studs on a 94 factory turbo idi to replace it
hey man if you have a build list for the entire engine and transmission excluding the fabricated parts, I would be unbelievably grateful as Im looking to build my IDI up just like you did
Yea she only had 95k when I pulled her out too lol, had nothing wrong with it, was just gunna do the top end and studs, but then the engine was out and I said screw it, I should get some total seal rings and the block sleeved while I was at it, and then I said why not turbo rods and pistons too? Lol
That idi sounds amazing how did you make it sound like that? it now sounds like a power stroke and doesn’t have that popping sound at higher rpm making it sound like a big block
Awesome build! Was it worth it? 10k into an IDI verses a power stroke 7.3 or 6.0? I have an 7.3 IDI I'm currently trying to get running, pouring smoke out the oil cap unfortunately.... I did a compression test on it and according to specs it's just barely passing with the lowest cylinder at 195psi......
To me, yes it was totally worth it, I have something that is extremely uncommon where I am, and we love to be different, it will never be a 12v or a 6.0 but that doesn't matter, it makes 25psi and throws you back in your seat. That's all that really matters right? Lol
Well I got it running, i had to advance the IP and ran a hose In to a diesel can. The lift pump lines from the tanks are sucking air somewhere.... I'm just glad to hear it run
Allan Sweetman idi is more reliable by far that a power stroke but it will not make even near the same power at the moment due to aftermarket being almost non existent
@@heavydutyroadsidellc920 this is true. Which is why I asked if he was happy with his build and he is which nothing worse than sinking 10k into something we end up not being happy with! The old Rattlers idi Ford and Chevy alike always perk my interest. If I could I would own one of each lol preferably the 7.3 ford and an older military version of the 6.2. I personally drive a common rail 5.9. but I would like an older 12v just so I can have a mechanical version of each from the big three!!
So badass. I have a 94 IDIT unmolested as of right now. To get that power stroke crunch, you think a good place to start would be an R&D cam, head studs, and 5 inch pipe?
Is there any way to make my 7.3 factory turbo idi roll a little coal without turning the pump up it’s up 2 turns already and don’t really wanna risk turning it up anymore until I do head studs atleast I hit 15psi currently
Ince you see that white smoke then you know your getting fuel. Let off the starter and let them glow plergs do they thing then cycle it again and it should fire
Thank God. A actual idi build channel.
Good sounding 7.3. Just loud enough to let the folks out there know you’re beside them
I have a 7.3 powerstroke but same thing applies. I love getting dirty looks when I am idling in traffic next to people. 😂

Its on one of our idi videos description!
It sounds like a straight piped powerstroke.
You guys ever dyno that truck?
Dam that sound makes me want to turbo my 92 7.3 IDI. Only have 95k miles on her!

Ayeeeee back at it again with the Chooch

Its the r&d camshaft
Good on ya mate. Sounds good. I slapped a 95 PSD turbo on mine. sounds pretty good. What kind of MPGs you get?
14-15 with my foot in it all the time lol
Oscar how much boost you getting outa yours with psd turbo on it?

Nice set up what injectors are you running and is that one of the turbo kits they used to sell for a Idi back in the day or custom?
R&d turbo manifold setup, hx35/40 hybrid turbo and stock turbo injectors
That sounds so damn good
It's that r&d cam makes it sound sooo good
Beautiful. Good job.
Is that a 1980 tailgate??
So badass. I have a 94 IDIT unmolested as of right now. To get that power stroke crunch, you think a good place to start would be an R&D cam, head studs, and 5 inch pipe?
No reason for more than 3 inch on an idi, cam is good studs are good but you need a bigger injection pump and turbo of you wanna make some power,
@@Grewsum2Sum which turbo and injection pump you?
Hx35/40 hybrid and 100cc injection pump
Get rid of that tiny stock turbo
That thing SCOOTS!
Nicely done. 👍
damn how does it sound so good? better than a stock 7.3 idi
Because of the r&d camshaft, it completely changes how the engine runs
@@Grewsum2Sum ohh wow. it sounds way better. Now im looking at idis LOL
Excellent!
Where can I buy a kit I need one for my truck and I’ve been looking everywhere
awsome video
In the first vid I thought he had a Automatic now I know he has a Standard. So how is he complaining about power? Is he wanting to race the truck?
The 7.3l idi n/a is a pig. It really has a hard time getting out of it's own way if it's under any load.
How much did the can move the power band up? Best guess for the power difference too? Sounds killer
We have a dyno vid of her and it really helps her spool up down low and give it some extra grunt
Screw that city life. Nice build
Ok tank so much
Love the music
What is it making for hp and ft pounds of tourq
300hp 700ftlbs at the wheels
how much power now ?
cost of engine build ?
Whats the dyno vid we have! Also probably have 10 into the whole build including machine work
Is there any way to make my 7.3 factory turbo idi roll a little coal without turning the pump up it’s up 2 turns already and don’t really wanna risk turning it up anymore until I do head studs atleast I hit 15psi currently
Nope bigger pump or turn it up more, 15psi is really pushing it for no studs I'd watch out your gunna lift a head sooner or later
I plan on doing studs as soon as I have the time
That sounds SAAAAHHHH- WEEEEEET!!!!!!
Ince you see that white smoke then you know your getting fuel. Let off the starter and let them glow plergs do they thing then cycle it again and it should fire
Cosby sauce....
Did he shave the pistons to reduce compression?
Nope! Stock compression
So how much power does it make now?
Watch our dyno video and find out!
@@Grewsum2Sum I will have too find that. 👍
With that much spool everyone is gonna think it’s a powerstroke!
Hell yeah.

You don't absolutely need to change them I just did cause I wanted it a little stronger for when I decide to throw more fuel at it
Ok tenk you for help mi
I du have a 6.9 but dosent have a turbo I will know if I can put a turbo on
@@denislazo1338 yes you can put one on

What turbo is that ?
Its a mix of turbos, hx35 coldside with a wicked wheel, hx40 hotside with a 18cm housing
im doing this with my 78 dentside
I saw! Things pretty cool
A little oil?
Ya 🤣
how much did your build cost roughly ? looken to build one of my own
In about About 10k on just the engine
did u leave it single disk or go dual
Stock dual mass flywheel with a luk single disc, we will see how she holds for now
OK I get it now.
hot damn!
K&N don't filter well enough for Diesels
How much did that cost
The engine build? All parts and machine work close to 10k...

good thing shes brandy new
