Crappie have tremendous eye sight and feed almost exclusively on bait fish. The hair jigs are supposed to represent a small baitfish and I use them over a soft plastic because of their durability. They look much more natural underwater and all the fibers flow together. I tied several different colors because crappie can be very picky about colors. I often use a dozen different colors on an outing just trying to find what they want. I think it has to do with water clarity and light penetration. Different shades demand different colors to contrast and be easily visible to the crappie. I do use sequins as eyes sometimes on the jig head itself, but a bead is a great idea.
Enjoyed this! Especially gratifying when you catch them on baits you made yourself. Subbed...Stay Safe!
Welcome! Thanks for watching.
Are croppies attracted to the flies only? You are not using them as a fly fisherman would do. Do you ever use colored beads in your flies?
