@JPS Please consider doing Lock Stock & two smoking barrels, not a Christmas movie but it is as English as a movie can get.
Joel, you need to watch the whole film and you'll see how all the characters are connected
Liam Neesan's character saying the only woman he would want after his wife died is Claudia Schiffer, and then that kids mum is played by Claudia Schiffer
Yeah thought it was good of Claudia to agree to this cameo role, and it's nice to see that Liam Neesons character has a chance at love again 🙂
‘Love Actually’ is a Carousel of Great British Actors.
This is just such a wonderful movie. Funny, heartwarming, and tragic in equal parts.
This was a first-date movie for me, and turned out to be so awkward. But, over the years I've grown to love it so much.
My brother hates British romantic comedies, but even he loves this movie. The chemistry between Liam Neeson's character and his stepson is stellar.
It's got such a great cast, and is a movie I always revisit every Christmas. This is us at our best.
Deffo say if you love someone. I was very shy and if my wife 16 years ago never said that she liked me one faithful night my life could have been very different and definitely less happy than I am today.
I have watched this film so many times, it still makes me smile and cry, a true classic for me
I loved the last scene when you see all the people greeting each other it's one of the best scenes in the film 👌💖🎄🎅🎄🎅🎄🎅
Love this film, it really has so much quintessentially English charm. You probably don't know who she is so you missed the joke, but at the beginning the father and young son joke about him getting together with Claudia Schiffer, a supermodel in the 90s. The lady he bumped into at the end at the school concert... was Claudia Schiffer. There are just so many British acting legends in this film, all with really quite small cameos. No egos, just everyone enjoying being in an unapologetically heart warming, romantic film. Its pretty much the only Christmas film I'll watch
The Film .....IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE .......excellent OLDIE
One thing about Rowan Atkinson's appearance, I read somewhere that at one point he had a bigger storyline as an Angel of Christmas appearing in each storyline to give Love a little nudge or to save it etc. I truly love this film, own the DVD, and have watched it many, many times. I always get to have a couple of little cry's and it reminds me that Love is out there for us all even if it occasionally gets a little bit messed up along the way.
I thought that too, particularly the last scene at the airport check in.
The Holiday is a great festive movie. Half in England and half US. Great cast as well
Brilliant reaction 🎄
I just came back from NYC last week, yeah I agree, they just want us to talk... it's really funny xD
We watch this every Christmas, that and muppets Christmas carol lol
Thanks Joel I love this film and have watched it a few times over the years .
The little boy who'd fallen in love with an American school girl in his school had recently lost his mum. His step dad (Niam Leeson) initially laughed as most probably would do, but then he realised his step son's feelings were real and he did all he could to help. Love Actually is a great film, full of various people's lives, loves and losses etc. So, however young or old a person is their feelings are real and should be respected.
LoL even Liam Neeson !! ( Spoonerism !!! )
@@markbaker2826 😅 I just read through the post and didn't notice that....very observant 👍 (we read what we expect to read and all that... 😁)
@@markbaker2826- And what a brilliant 'Spoonerism' it it too, it works perfectly both ways... LOL!
The one thing we all agree on. We will never forgive Alan Rickman for cheating on Emma Thompson. 😆
Agreed. The sh*ttiest thing to do to one of the nicest character in cinema.
@All-In Wonder true true. Cheating isn't just physical. Being emotionally attached to someone else and financial infidelity are forms of cheating too.
My original comment was meant as a joke.
@@timtreefrog9646 there’s nothing wrong with forming emotional attachments to other people while married
Even worse is that she was acting from real life experience. She had been cheated on by a spouse before.
@@liamblack2574 yes true. It depends on the level and associated actions. To touch, sniff, and fawn over a co worker, buying them expensive romantic jewellery whilst "happily" married. That is not OK. That is emotionally cheating in my books.
I grew up with its a Wonderful life,. and didn't reliase this is how films get classic. This fiim is now the same.....CLASSIC
I'm Just back from a Week in New York - Had a blast , When I did talk to Americans all they said was " pardon - I can't understand your accent " I did ask for a Cup of tea in the Hotel and She gave me a Cup of hot water, poured in one milk and put the lid on and then gave me tea bag ! - I thought where is JPS when you need him
Or Jps' friend Will , the tea expert in my opinion
I find Americans very isolated and seem to know very little about the rest of the world, very strange, it may be the educational system to most Americans their country is the only thing they know about
I remember this Hugh Grant film being so huge when it came out on DVD. Along with Notting Hill and Four Weddings and a Funeral.
My favourite couple - Gregor Fisher and Bill Nighy. Brilliant.
Absolutely gutted that you didn’t add your reaction to the scene where Colin firths character goes to tell Aurelia he loves her. Deffo one of the bests scenes of the movie imo
Yes! I love his bad Portuguese (or whatever language it is she speaks). It’s bloody genius 😂
I love the multiple storylines in this film. It really delivers.
Love this soundtrack. Listen to it all the time.
Otis Redding's White Christmas is the best version ...
@@monkee1969 - Each to their own, but I find Otis Redding's a little disjointed (jerky). I prefer the Bing Crosby original (1942) version of a 'White Christmas' (more mellow/smoother, perhaps?).
Seen it so often, I can almost recite the lines. Brilliant film
The Young boy is played by Thomas Brodie-Sangster who has been in many films since then and more recently stared in The Queens Gambit.
There was a Sequel to this a few years ago more of a short which you could find through a quick youtube search
This and the holiday are my favourite Christmas films ❤
Filmed at my old school! Top facts also Pierce Brosnan's school as well as bands The XX and Hot Chip.
You need to watch the follow up short film they made. It shows how they all are so many years later.
The film tells I think 6 stories which interwine at the Christmas concert. Falling in love, finding love after loosing a partner, first love, cheating love, finding out you married the wrong guy, secret love. Hugh Grant was the Prime Minister. Doubt if they actually used the staircase in 10 Downing Street. Colin Firth who jumped into the lake. Mr Darcy in Pride & Prejudice- THAT lake scene. Carry on the good work & Merry Christmas to you & yours.
OMG ! I hadn't connected the Darcy scene in P&P with the lake scene in L A , thank you !xxxx
That little boy is so cute. Recently watched him The Maze Runner, the box set. He's gone on to do a lot of great work in films. I need to watch this film it's been so many years since I saw it. and it has so many great actors in it.
Thanks Joel I love this film - I think I've watched it 20+ times. It's essential Christmas viewing for me.
I always get teary eyed at the end of the film, people meeting up with loved ones they have missed. My fav are Love Actually, Arthur Christmas and Bad Santa. Please do Bad Santa. Your reactions will be as funny at the film!😂😂
The boat that rocked and Last Christmas both great movies.
Hi. Watched earlier today, 3am on Patrion. Enjoyed watching along with you. 👍😁
One of the best Christmas you must watch Jps, is A Muppet Christmas Carol, superb adaptation of the Charles Dickens classic with great songs too.
This is one of my favourite films. I love it, and thank you for putting at least some of your reactions on UA-cam. Hopefully you won't get a copyright strike, though. But I appreciate it very much. Thank you.
great film well worth watching thanks for the reminder
This is my favourite Christmas movie, I always watch it on Christmas Day
It's a great Chistmas film- so much going on! I had to laugh at the start when you said we were watching this, and the next one would be ' In Bruges' which is a considerable contrast!!!!
8:51 ROWAN ATKINSON THE LEGEND. It will never not be funny. The key is that he plays it so cool.
Wisconsin was the joke 😄
'Are there American Girls like this'? Don't know so much these days, however in the seventies and eighties there certainly were!
I know this movie by heart... BTW...Bill Nighy is not terrible...at anything...lol. Love him. Collins Firth is amazing also. All of the actors are great!
I love this film, for me Christmas hasn't started until i have watched this. One thing you may not have picked up on is earlier in the film Liam Neeson says about Claudia Schiffer (german born super model) coming along. the woman he bumps into in the school is played by Claudia Schiffer
Looove this film, we watch it every year, tradition now. The cliche bits were intentional, it's like an homage to all great romance films. Although, these days, every time I see the kid run past security at the airport, I can't help thinking if he did that today, they'd probably shoot him, 😂.
If you can find it there's a great video of a kid running past TSA after his dog and they're just like 'okay' 🤣
Yes there are some American Females like that. I am happy to say, I should know!! 😊😊
Scary thing with the ages is the young lad who played Sam learning the drums for the school concert to get the girl, and Keira Knightly - who broke the heart of the 'carol singer' when she married his best friend only have a 5 year age difference. At the time of filming he was 13 and she was 18 - but seemed miles apart
Bought the dvd plus the playlist.. brilliant ❤
Did you notice Rick from the walking dead? He was the friend taking the wedding photos x
The blonde woman that Liam neeson meets at the school is Claudia Schiffer - he mentions her earlier in the film to his step son haha just in case you didn’t realise because I thought you might not have!
Another good Christmas British comedy is called Nativity, it is bonkers lol
It's weird how music copyright is more strict than video copyright
I love that film and Hugh Grant is the best !
Glad you liked this great film with so many brilliant actors and so many poignant moments. Shame you laughed at the young boy's love story though. If you do have kids someday you'll probably be more understanding of how strongly kids feel about all sorts of things, including love. Fave stories from this film are Bill Nighy's (apparently he's said he thinks the famous quote will be at the top of his obituary “Hiya kids. Here is an important message from your Uncle Bill. Don’t buy drugs. Become a pop star, and they give you them for free!” and also Colin Firth's Portuguese one. Ahhh, must go rewatch Love Actually, thanks for the reminder, Joel.
Wonder why there were no clips of John and Judy (Martin Freeman and Joanna Page) 😂😂....? Love this movie, watch it once or twice a year.
I love this film watch it every Christmas, typical Richard Curtis (who directed) fayre. He loves to pull at the heart strings and always does nice shots of London and his choice of music is always appropriate and good.
Its a bit crazy (Hugh Grant called it psychotic) but that's what makes it more fun.
I adore Bill Nighy in this and now he's one of my favourite actors.
Glad you enjoyed it ☺️
check out the sainsbury WWI christmas truce ad.
I was in America for 2 weeks and no one was in the least interested when they heard my English accent. I suppose it only applies to the young and beautiful. 🤔
2:24 Speaking of Keira Knightley, you HAVE to watch ‘Bend It Like Beckham’, ‘Pride and Prejudice’ (2005) and ‘Atonement’.
A big lol for not knowing the stranger is Claudia Schiffer
That is a great film, with a fantastic cast.
Brilliant film joel you will love it mate
I look forward to your Christmas Livestream. We should do it on UA-cam and have a nice, long chat.
That little boy Sam you said was about 7 was actually 13 in this film. I love this film. I've watched it over and over
My favourite Christmas movie is the holiday
IF YOU LOVE SOMEONE, TELL THEM.
It's a bunch of really good famous British actors, of course it's a good film.
On the subject of Rowan Atkinson. He is in "Keeping Mum" which was made around the same time... an absolutely brilliant dark comedy starring Maggie Smith, Kristin Scott Thomas and Patrick Swayze. A must see if you're a fan of "Love..."
Thoroughly enjoyed you reaction to this movie 🙂
I’ve actually been waiting for this reaction for a while. Not my favourite Christmas movie but I liked some of the vignettes. The movie just crossed 20 years, I think.
Hi you fealty need to watch the whole film to understand it merry Christmas to you and your family 👪
I watched this for the first time last week. It’s alright.
Awesome film!!! ❤️❤️
2:30pm I love this film well done Joel 😊❤UK
Is Love Actually a great Christmas film?
No actually. 😆
Greetings from Germany. I love this film.
The Holiday is a great movie too.
Love Actually wasn’t a bad film, but I did feel filmmakers were trying to recreate the magic they did when they made Notting Hill. It wasn’t the same film but it was a good try. Notting Hill focus on one love story, rather than multiple stories, like we see in Love Actually. Less is more in my book.
I saw an interview in which the creator said he had a bunch of ideas for different love stories, but at the time couldn't think of engaging unique ways to spin them out with enough content to be standalone films. His solution was to put them all together in one movie. From a certain point of view it worked "love actually" does standout as something different artistically. I like many of the hallmark films but at the same time you could say they are cookie cutter films as they are very predictable.
Yet this movie is the more iconic one by far. I think you're in the minority with your opinion.
I’m here for the chaotic editing. It adds to the reaction.
I gave up watching because of that.
Love it even though I've seen when it comes on TV I watch again.
Liam Neeson is so adorable in this movie ❤
I'll watch the full reaction possibly on Christmas Eve...
Love a livestream though, sadly my work has given us the 24th, 26th, 27th, 31st Dec, 1st + 2nd Jan 23' - so I wont have much fun or time to enjoy Christmas as I work for Primark + it'll be so busy lol !
About a boy next
You might recognise Sammy from the maze runner movies.
❤❤❤ fabulous film 10/10 for me
Lovely film 🥰
It's the best of the best, love it
I’d definitely have you and your mates over for my Christmas office party! 🎉🎊🎉🎊👌🏻🇺🇸🏴🇺🇸🏴🍾🍾🍾
Please react to the Ashbourne football event it’s absolute British chaos you’ll absolutely love trust me please
7.5? 8.5? 🙈Come on …. It’s Christmas!!😂❤️
Hello Joel. I enjoyed your reaction to the chap who meets the US girls. They reminded me of you at the fair on 4 July.
Also I could not help but picture your brother being about the age of the kid on drums.
At that age my Geography teacher, who was Adrian Edmondson's dad, showed a film to the class at Xmas. It was the David Lean version of Great Expectations, which is still my favourite at Xmas, though there is only one major Xmas scene.
After that the black and white version of Scrooge is very memorable, since it keeps the Dickens theme going, which somehow seems right for the UK.
Agree, Great expectations is just superb. Dickens is definitely a Christmas staple.
My son and I also like the Christmas Carol version of played by Patrick Stewart 🙂
@Inatwirl Ingram. Your choice was on TV the other day, the film that Joel reviewed was on last night, I am watching my choice now, which should be on BBC iplayer and Joel said he watched Scrooge on Patreon. What the Dickens? It cannot be too bad a subject for Xmas after all. Oh, and a Happy New Year to you and your son.
10:57 You’re technically an Honorary Briton. I’m sure there’s a fellow citizen who’d love that.
15:38 APPARENTLY, from what I’ve heard, the little boy and the little girl reunited as voice actors (who liked each other as characters) in ‘Phineas and Ferb’.
If you like love actually, try the holiday 👏🏻👏🏻
Christmas classic
Muppets Christmas Carol is a great watch too
This is a classic 😊
Love this film got the DVD it 10 out of 10🎄🎅🎄🎅🎄
Just love this movie k
7:45 The symbolism is RIGHT THERE 😂
He says he comes from Basildon, so do I.
