Mammootty always stable Stardom and Acting together.
That’s why he still ruling the Mollywood.
Because of doing both Acting oriented and Stardom roles at the same time his audience haven’t complaining about his movies.
They welcoming both type of movies.
Mohanlal was also in the same route like Mammootty. But below Mammootty as per experiment roles and trying new directors. But Mohanlal did it till 2016. After that He made his focus of his stardom and loose the audience of acting type of movies.
Actually at that time it was best for him to focus of Stardom because it was a bad era for Mammootty and a good chance for him to go a far above Mammootty. Till the start of his career he was competing with Mammootty both acting and Stardom. And 2013-2019 was a best time for him to overshadow Mammootty in Stardom. In those period Mammootty focused more in his acting and only few movies came as commercial and most of them didn’t work.
But in 2020 Mammootty started to comeback to his stardom and back to back hits through both Acting and Stardom oriented movies. At the same time Mohanlal gone down and his acting oriented movies didn’t welcome by audience and fans because they only want the Star Mohanlal.
It was the mistake happen for him in 2016-2020 period.

My personal suggestion: please watch Big B, one of Mammookka's greatest cult classics directed by the one and only Amal Neerad (the man who directed Bheeshma Parvam, another Mammookka movie, also a good one)
Also try the CBI film series (except CBI 5 which is total trash)
Check out Kannur Squad, a fantastic police adventure movie which was a huge hit last year 😊
