Really nice job! Your ability to get service information is quite spectacular. You are right about the belt being like a Corvair. I enjoyed that reference. 😊
It was great that you posted this video! I also have one of these. I tried changing the belt on it a while ago, but after that it no longer works. When I press play, it stops after about 15 seconds. And fast forward doesn't work at all. Rewind works. Maybe I don't have the right length or thickness of belts. I look forward to the next part!
Thanks for making this video brother. I just picked one of these up and it looks like I'm going to have to do the same kind of belt replacement in it. This one does play very temporarily at a very diminished speed
Amazing find. I wondered for quite some time: has SONY ever made a portable 3 head cassette corder? And the answer is YES, with the usual Spaghetti Incident inside: beautiful.
Ah yes the dreaded soft, melted belt plague which affects many 30-40 year old tape decks. This looks to be a pretty routine repair (cleaning and new belts should make it happy again). A neat little unit with 3 heads. I hope you don't find any other faults with it. Sony was considered good quality back then. I will look forward to seeing part 2. 😎
There are two versions of the Sony TCM 5000ev recorder that are identified on the top of the door. One says 'Voice Matic'. The other says 'Voice Operated Recording'. What's the difference?
Where do you get replacement belts from? I have an Aiwa portable cassette player, a Curtis Mathis boombox and a Pioneer DVD burner that need belts. I just need a decent quality assortment pack.
Ooow loads of wires to snap off, i would take loads of pictures of the pcb to catch all the wires . They are a trap lol :-D. it looks like the back edge of the pcb should lift up then pull the back edge of the pcb out. That glued control is a horrible bodge, hope you can loosen it. Dam super glue.

Point to point extremely small wires, what a headache. Looks like fun to me! 😂

You see the stripped screws way to often.. Are people not aware that they should be using JIS Screwdrivers on eqipment made in Japan ?
