Nice vid. I booked a trip with Lesly twice and never had a guide who saw so many fish! From 10 fish on a spot I saw 2, Lesly 8!! Regret that my age gives me more and more troubles to follow him. Since 2017 I visit Slovenia at least 1 or 2 times per year.
As much as you love a boat on Rutland Water. The crystal clear water, quality of fish, combined with the scenery. Slovenia is one of the worlds premier locations in the world for trout fishing. On a par with New Zealand and the best South America can offer. Overall the costs involved are not as high as most people would think. Well worth considering.
Stunning looking place sir its bit like the findhorn in Scotland you have to hang on for your life going from pool to pool but not as clear as there with being spate river
I know the Findhorn but never had the opportunity to fish it. Stunning part of the world though.

Good stuff ! Now here comes the social media aspect. I've known guys making fishing trips out there for 15 to 20 years (every years). They all said the latest years have turned a bit sour but it's nothing compared to what has happened to New-Zeland. This year a bunch of places in NZ will no turn into a specific day permit which will also be limited. The downfall of the really amazing fishing destination will be ruined by social media. (It's no secret that fishing destinations like Slovenia or NZ are super good. But now you have to pay special day pass and still hike 5-10km in the bush to get to a spot where MAYBE there's already someone fishing so the next 2km of river are likely doomed)
Agreed but the genie is out the bottle. I have fished in Slovenia of and on for the last 16 years and there is a marked change. What I would say is it does boost the local economy maybe at the cost of exclusivity for fishing.
What a fantastic video that was Lindsay. You should do a lot more of them. Perhaps you could do a series of videos covering the Machair lochs of South Uist. My favourite place to be with a guide (ghillie). We used to all watch the Paul Young videos and the likes but for some reason the TV no longer shows these type of programs. Thankfully you do. 🎣👏👍
I would love to do more but am currently still working a full time job. Hopefully I will be able to retire in a few years and start doing this full time 👍
Catching up on your recent videos, Slovenia looks incredible, Lindsay. Noticed that you're using the Wychwood RS2 4wt? How is that rod? could you share your thoughts on it? Appreciate your time, thanks mate.
I primarily use this rod for small Stillwaters it’s Ideal for that. It is a fairly fast action which I am not so keen on for river fishing. I much prefer the Flo rod for a #4 and I think that’s what I would take if I go back to Slovenia. It’s more forgiving and has more of a midflex action. The RS2 is a casting machine.
Having been fishing in the Tolmin area myself just recently I can only agree with most of this video. However, the analogy given by guide about anything else than sight fishing is bid too much it seems to me. Also the Soča is a river that, with some experience under your belt can be read, and in which hot spots can be recognised. Fishing those hot spots is effective and certainly not the same as a hunter just shooting around on a mountain hoping to hit something.
I have to agree, the fish are difficult to spot and fishing likely water (reading the water) you can often find sport. This is how I would usually fish. The stalking is fun but as I said in the video a certain level of fitness is required and there is a lot more walking than fishing.
Could I private message you about some info? I fish Bovec regularly and make the drive from northern Italy. Looking to try the Tomlin area this weekend!
Some breathtaking scenery and great looking fish. Looking forward to part 2
Thanks Rhys, the weather does take a turn mind😉

Be perfect with a campervan Chris. You get quite good discounts when you buy multiple days fishing.
@@lindsayiflyfish even €90 for a day on a river like that is more than worth it!

Going in 2 weeks to the savinja. First time and can’t wait
You will not be disappointed, everything is fantastic the scenery, people, food and of course the fishing! Let me know how you get on.
Will do bud, thanks. Great video
Enjoyed that. The backdrop looks magnificent and the water crystal clear. Would a novice manage there?
Maybe start with the Sava first, if you have a good guide though you should be fine.
