Those guys at short lane are great and knowledgeable. Great to hear you are seeing a huge difference. You thinking of maybe doing less high speed disking? I've always heard any disking conventional or vertical isn't good for the soil profile. I've been doing no til and min til for 14yrs. Always good to learn new things. Especially in our area where you get called crazy for doing things differently.
Yes they are! I’m still going to use the high speed disc. I fall in the middle of the pack…I have 10yr no till fields and also conventional till fields. I would like to move to strip till one day
Good-looking plants and spot on with the digging in the soil and seeing what the roots are doing. If more Farmers carry a shovel instead of their phone with apps about fertility they might move themselves forward The tillage versus no-till is how the seed got into the ground. How you manage after that is what counts. Any retail agronomist that does not understand points of influence And Practices the 4 Rs of fertility probably shouldn't have the word agronomist in their title. There are so many around me and all around this country that have no clue about points of influence or proper fertility it's just crop removal rate pnk The cover crop is the big difference There are scientists watching the life count in no chill and tillage and even in tillage there's a dip and then the cover crops bring it right back If your no-till not using any cover crops and you're still using all the herbicide and fertilizers You might have compacted dead dirt A little bit of tillage and a lot of cover crops might be better. A lot of it depends on what your shovel is saying
Can you be a little more specific on the crop rotation. Looks like cereal rye was harvested last summer. Then the mix was planted after harvest . So just a few species would have over wintered this spring prior to planting soybeans.
Yes you are correct. There was a heavy brassica mix planted. I like to choose mixes that don’t over winter. We have a very small spring planting window. It was terminated prior to planting though.
