We really need to plant more forestry in this country,sitka spruce is a great way to combat climate change, a short rotation crop that sequesters carbon, provides the Irish construction industry with the timber they need to built houses, we shouldn't have to import timber when we have the potential to grow more, Ireland should be self suffient !! Also alot of jobs being provided to areas with low employment levels.
I believe that thinking has changed. There's an acknowledgement that monocultures like spruce plantations, have no value in terms of biodiversity. Continuous cover forestry and the planting of mixed species of broadleaf, is being encouraged.
@@hughoconnor8769 i agree, only downside is alot of ireland is not suitable for CCF, as we are a small island and get alot of windy weather. In relation to the broadleaved trees, they are great, but alot of them have no value only firewood. The spruce isn't all bad, many animals live in spruce forests, Badgers, foxes, birds, deer, red squirels, many mushrooms can be found is side also. Remember theres a very high possibility that the roof over your head is made out of Spruce !!!

where you live was cleared to make your house. environment had to be killed for you to have a house and food. it is very delusional to put environment first before human survival
