I saw Michael play his heart and soul out in a small club in San Rafael CA. He fronted a drummer and bass player, and just set the place on fire. He did a version of the Allman Brothers "Whipping Post" that in its own way, was as good as when I heard Duane Allman play it in 1969. Afterwards Michael came out to meet the audience and made himself available for an autograph, picture and to talk. He's the real thing, what you see on AGT, is what you see when the camera's are turned off.

I've been on a AGT binge and checking out a lot of 2010 AGT because I didn't watch any episodes when they aired. A lot of talent came out that year like fight gravity, jackie, lindsey sterling, and arcattack. I checked to see who won that year and had no clue who Michael Grimm was. I was actually on a Fighting Gravity video typing a comment saying how the best performers never win AGT when I saw this vid in the recommendations side and decided to checked it out to see if I was speaking too early. When he started singing I was blown away (he sounds like a mix b/w Michael Bolton and Bruce Springstein) and he is such a humble and likable guy. I mean that opera singer had the gay votes, fighting gravity had the young votes, but jackie and him had a universal appeal. I saw all of fighting gravity's AGT performances and I would have had them win it, but this final performance was better than theirs (I can't say better overall since this is the only Grimm performance I saw). Just off this one video and his back story I'm actually glad he won it. Now I'm off to watch audition performance
He has got it. I need to find a way to get to Vegas and see him live. I hope he stays humble and doesn't let all the fame go to his head. Stay grounded Michael. Awesome.
He is definitely a humble guy. He has such a good heart and i cannot even express how much I appreciate how he treats my son zach. We have met him multiple times and Him and his wife are just amazing people.

6/11/23 i remember watching from the start. He made tears come to my eyes and chills on my skin. I was so sad when he couldnt handle the star life. He has a voice that you feel in your soul!
No one has mentioned that Mr. Grimm is a talented guitar player...or course that voice steals the show, but pay attention to his playing - he's got chops, and a nice, solid percussive style on acoustic. All that talent, and a nice guy to boot. I wish people wouldn't compare him to Bolton...I know they mean it as a compliment, but I hear a lot of Memphis Soul in Grimm's voice that comes naturally...not so with Bolton, who also picks bad songs to sing. Joe Cocker, yeah...I hear the influence.
We sing what we love/admire, otherwise what's the point, plus u only saw 30 % of his talent on AGT.!.Watch his: Bang Bang & return to AGT 2011 Stay With Me Baby (both Terry Reid's versions), Damn Your Eyes (Etta James) & Shaky Ground(Temptations) at Hard Rock Biloxi 2013. Also: I've Been Loving You Too Long -full song & These Arms Of Mine (both Otis Redding) and originals: I Am, It's Love, Sit Down and Shut Up, etc. As a fellow musician, I think this quiet musician's INCREDIBLE!!!....FEEDBACK??
For those who think Jackie should have won - remember that she would have had to headline a Las Vegas show. Headlining is more demanding than simply being one of a number of performers. It would have likely been exhausting for a child, even one so talented. Also her style is a better fit for the concert stage than the Vegas showroom. Jackie was my fave and a winner at first song, but I think they made the right decision. Michael was ready for this.
I don't think it really matters where 'you deserve' was used in any point in time nor so I think someone deserves an award for 'making love' to people from the stage. Music is art and Jackie Evancho is an artist utilizing a dying genre. Micheal is very talented, but in my opinion, his performance was nothing new. Obviously America thinks differently, I just wish that they would recognize an 8 year old OPERA singer, it's incredible.
"You deserve ..." is a phrase used in shampoo commercials. Jackie was cute, pure and chaste. Micheal made love on stage to women across America. They voted for him. Ave Maria will not cut it for an American audience; When a Man Loves a Woman gets your blood moving. Their voices were equally good. Jackie just chose the wrong song. Given the songs she has done since, I don't think any of them would have produced a different result.
