    Hey there I got accepted and had a few questions. Firstly, how strict is the campus rules really? Like can you not drink at all or bring people in without getting caught. Sounds like there is very little freedom. Secondly, how is the party life? Do you have to travel far to downtown in order to go out or is there someone’s on res or nearby parties/nightclubs. Sorry I know these arnt typical university questions but thought I would ask anyways. Thanks, great informative video btw!

    So, I'm actually planning on applying for an exchange program for their fall semester, can you give your opinion if that's a good idea, granted it gets really cold there and I'm from a warm country? Would it be very cold that outdoor activities or plans in general might get disrupted (will there be any social life for exchange students in the winter?) or would the spring semester be more enjoyable? I don't know if I'll be able to adjust to the cold there in the winters, so any thoughts on the weather would be appreciated!

    Selam aleykum. Thanks for the great video. I'm about to graduate from the University of Iowa with a degree in Biomedical Sciences this year, and I'm thinking about applying to the Medical School there. How do you afford tuition? How do you afford to live there? In the United States, Medical School is a graduate degree, but in Turkey, it's an undergraduate degree. Would most people be younger than me?

    • @Sarelly
      @Sarelly  4 роки тому +2

      W alaykom ssalam! I studied at Koç university for 4 months only (September-December). I'm a student at VU Amsterdam and only pay 2k a year. I applied for the Erasmus exchange programme and had the opportunity to study at Koç university for one semester. Hence, why I never payed tuition at Koç university.
      The Erasmus programme also offers European students a scholarship to cover living expenses. That's how I could afford living there. Turkish students sometimes had jobs at local cafes. So if you have the Turkish nationality, that might be an option.
      I do think most people would be younger than you since most students in my classes were about the same age as me (21). I didn't take any Medical courses though, but I doubt that the age range was much different in those courses.
      I hope this was helpful!

    Was het moeilijk om over te schakelen van een nl universiteit naar een turkse? Zit er veel verschil in? Heb je hiervoor in het engels les gehad? Zo niet vond je het lastig om het in die taal les te krijgen? Zelf wil ik later ook heel graag in turkije studeren en ik ben heel erg benieuwd naar ervaringen van andere🙃

    • @Sarelly
      @Sarelly  4 роки тому +1

      Het was juist veel makkelijker in Turkije! Ik heb hiervoor wel soms les gehad in het Engels, maar niet vaak. De lessen waren redelijk op niveau, maar de tentamens waren dan wel echt te doen. Ook had ik standaard vrijdag vrij, terwijl ik in Nederland 5 dagen per week les heb.
      Dit verschilt wel per faculteit. Ik heb namelijk gehoord dat de Engeneering faculteit dan wel weer een hoog niveau had en dat het voor master studenten ook vaak lastig was (zelf ben ik een bachelor studente). De meeste internationale studenten vonden Turks onderwijs ook veel beter te doen dan in hun eigen land!
      Short summary in English:
      As an undergraduate, I personally found the lectures and study material harder than the exams. The exams were very much doable in my opinion and were way easier than at my home university in Amsterdam. Some graduates I spoke to, however, found their exams harder and found the study load higher than at their home universities. Especially those at the engineering faculty, since Turkish students are taught more advanced mathematics than in the Netherlands for example.

    • @Sarelly

      My parents were worried about me going alone too! Perhaps they'll be less worried if you tell them most of the time you'll be with other students. Especially in the beginning you'll only be alone in your room, but even then you'll probably have a roommate.
      Tell them the university is well secured and no one is allowed entry without a student card (the same goes for batı campus). There are gards protecting the property 24/7.
      Perhaps knowing that men aren't allowed to be in any of the buildings for females will reassure them.
      My parents were less worried because I called/texted them regularly so tell your parents you'll do that.
      One of my friends even installed an app that allowed her mom to track where she was all of the time.. so if all of the above doesn't help, maybe you can do that too😂
      Just make sure they know you'll keep in touch and that you'll be in a safe environment with great mentors to guide you, I hope that helps❤

      My mother is afraid of me being in the house with a female who is not good, and I cannot move to another room ..
      Also, I want to ask you about veiled girls at Koç University
      Are they large or few?
      And thank you very very much for your words
      loved you💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕

      You're very welcome dear💕💕
      They usually mix international students with Turkish students and those usually go to their parents on Friday morning. They don't return until Monday so if you don't like your roommate, don't worry because you'll only be stuck with them for 4 days. Chances are high you'll have different schedules and won't even see each other during the day. Oh and they make sure you change roommates every semester so it's not like you'll be stuck with the person for years!
      Most girls at Koç don't wear veils but there's definitely a fair percentage of girls that are veiled.
      I love you too💕💕💕
      If you have other questions, feel free to ask!

      I received around 8 euro's per day as a Eurasmus scholarship I was able to apply for at the time as a European student. I had a job prior to going on exchange so that's how I covered the rest of my expenses

    Do they offer any vegan or vegetarian options at the cafeteria?

    • @Sarelly
      @Sarelly  4 роки тому +1

      Yes! They offer vegan meals and there's lots of veggies to choose from at Koç. Not so much at the cafeteria in the dormitory though.. Most vegetarians did struggle a lot in the rest of Istanbul too because you'll rarely find a vegetarian meal easily.
