the fantastic thing about gavin's songs is that they truly honor the spirit of the game - and manage to spoil and NOT spoil it at the same time. You can enjoy the music without knowledge of the game, at a few hours in, and at the end - equally, but in different ways. And the song stands alone. Gavin is truly a genius.

Yah, that's a major part of what makes this song good. Prey (2017) is all about the mind games and you never know how deep the rabbit hole goes... was that coffee mug there before? *starts smashing with wrench*
I find myself thousand times more hyped for game when Gavin makes song 'bout it than any trailer could he ever hoped to make me.
I wonder when game companies start to catch on and just hire him to do the trailers. Especially some like Bethesda and CDPR, the latter I'm kinda expecting to do so with Cyberpunk actually, considering some of their mates kinda already did so for Seven.
I heard he did it once and hated it cause it felt force so he doesn't want to do it again and only make songs he feels inspired too
Right? I bought Deus Ex Mankind Divided because his music video got me so pumped towards it.
If I was in marketing, I'd consider this "community-based marketing" or something. Like, the sign the base marketing has worked and the game has caught on in the public, and promoting stuff like that is healthy for a game's longevity and public relations. After all, game sales aren't just about an initial rush, people keep buying good games for years after they're released.

Really feels like an early Manson song with the beat, very much reminds me of NIN's Closer so I think you nailed that. Good Shit and it really felt like it captured the duality of Prey (especially after you know how it ends)

You know what? Thank you for the seizure warning. Flashing doesn't bother me, but I have a friend, and some productions these days don't care to give such a warning, even when they overuse flashes.
You'd think there'd be displays or graphics drivers that would be able to stop videos before an episode of severe flashing, provide a warning, or adapt the display/image to avoid provoking an episode, right? Maybe I just never noticed such a setting or product because I don't have epilepsy, but I'd imagine controlling potentially harmful or unpleasant output would be something popular to address and market towards. "Our screen is tested and proven safe", "use screen for hours longer without vision damage", etc.
Speaking as a chronic migraine sufferer and the son of an epileptic mother, I really appreciate those warnings more and more as time goes on. As far as I'm aware, Gav's always put warnings up on his vids when necessary - he's awesome like that.
Seconded. I'm not epileptic, and I don't know anyone who is; but I am hypersensitive to light, and the sorts of visual effects that can cause seizures tend to cause me horrendous migraines. A heads-up is always appreciated.

Prey is one of the few games I played through in a few days in a row. This song really caches the vibe and the story of the game. Thank you Gavin for another wonderful piece of music art.
This song nails the transhuman-vibe of this game perfectly, in my opinion. I truly believe that Prey will be looked back on as a modern classic!

3 years later: *still waiting for a sequel to be announced*
i'm still picking apart the lore of the original to prove that January was working with the Typhon.
Actually January or December were made by Morgan in those months while he had some breakdowns when all this cycle of installing and removing neuromods started to change his personality
Both by Typhon influence and brain scrambling
All it ended in some paranoia and guerilla actions from Morgan side
Since his own conciusnes started to be blended with Typhon that was as confused as Morgan in all of this
And remember
Morgan took more neuromods than anyone else along with very often removals of them (it was a daily basis for him)
As well as being the first person to use his experimental Typhon abilities neuromods
Before those only gave you some skills and knowledge
Morgan made it possible to unlock and use Typhon powers by neuromods and tested them on himself first
I've listened to this song hundreds of times, and I'm only playing the game right now. XD now the song keeps playing in my head all the time while playing, my head rendered it the official soundtrack

1) Almost 2 years of listening to this song and I still love it just as much as my first time.
2) I love that I started listening to music on a Warframe Soundtrack, UA-cam wormed its way across the OST to Dream Again and I've just been listening to Gav for the last hour, And I'm just gonna keep enjoying the awesome music.
God this song is awesome. Prey is awesome. Haven't played it, but from reading about the story and watching it on YT, it's an awesome storyline wrapped in good gameplay.
Love how this song is about the Neuromods affecting one's personality while at the same time it can also be interpreted as a reference to the ending when you find out the truth.

I ended up getting stuck in an area and i couldnt figure out how to make progress and my ammo and that was beginning to dwindle so ended up giving up on the game, sad to say really

I've never played this game and I honestly kind of doubt I will at this point, but I really love this song. As someone who experiences disassociation fairly regularly, it really manages to describe something I rarely see described.
There's several lets plays on youtube that are worth watching to get a gist of the story and style.
This game is the perfect mix between Dead space and Bioshock ! I love it so much !!!
It is an amazing game... It's easy to see why it had such good reviews when it came out.
The inflection in the part of the song saying "I'm not myself, I'm not somebody else" is odd to say the least, the first part sounds like it's be a statement, the second piece sounds as if they're questioning them self. Now, I've not played Prey yet so I can only conclude that something is happening to the player character to make them question who or what they really are.

For years this was one of my favourite songs, I was aware of the game only because of the song. Last month I bought Prey because of a sale, and I'm not sure if I love it, but I was surely and throughoutly impressed by it.
Welp. This song made me start thinking about Prey, and now I've got it. Playing the game gives me an appreciation for some of the finer notes in the song, things I wouldn't notice had I just listened to it. Another great job Gav.

I know this came out WAY before Cyberpunk, but this is definitely a Cyberpunk type theme. Recently finished Blade Runner 2049 so that might be what is pushing me that direction with this. Never did play Prey, though., so it might be PERFECT for this.
Yes and no since in this game they're using aliens to live on.. okay you got me when it comes to the neuron chips giving them powers and stuff. But those alien chips that they're putting in people's brains is turning them into aliens.. or did you not notice that. If you did in fact play the game you know that you yourself is an alien maybe your person at one point.. or maybe you were always an alien. But you believe you're Morgan Yu your brother Alex gave that to you because he can't stand the world without you. He also needs someone to play ambassador to a world taken over by the alien influence... he either wants his world back or he wants a way to safely make everyone like Morgan basically a way to make them remember who they were. Kind of like in the Land of the Dead whereas the director saw that there would be a day when everyone and everything went back to it was at one point. Even the Dead would remember who they were before. That's what Alex wants he wants a sense of normalcy. If you can convince him that you're still human enough or make the right choices even if you decide to go alien. He'll accept you just don't kill him when you get a chance. And you win that's how you win that game.. because in the end it is about humanity and What Makes Us human. In the end I suppose unlike cyberpunk it's more like Soma.. that game was about a sense of self that game was about understanding that there was more to humanity than just the physical body. Soma translated means body.. this reminds me of Soma but Selma reminds me of cyberpunk so I guess in a roundabout way you're right.

Really loved all the dark synths and sound effects and stuff to build up to the chorus. And oh my, the chorus. Can I just say how much I love that chord progression? It's amazing and I'm kinda head over heels.

Interesting choice of Octaves for the Chorus Gav, it makes the song showing the Danger in the Game and they also sound like the Protagonist is going Insane. Thats what these Octaves in the Chorus are to me. Altough the Song is as always great and is a Reflection of your Songwriting and playing Skills. Have a Nice Day Gavin and keep up your Great Work. I love the thing you do with your voice when you sing "the Vessels aground", in general the atmosphere in this song is just so tight and spot on. Somehow i get a Nine inch Nails vibe from the song tho, thats a good thing to me aswell. Keep it up
