I can get behind Sparx's range being based on his health. It makes sense, it's a good incentive for keeping Sparx yellow and shiny as long as I can. That's a mechanic I would like to revisit in a new Spyro game
Dear channel author, thank you very much for your videos and please continue to make them, I am also a very big fan of Enter the Dragonfly, I am very glad that I am not the only one.
10:17 - To be honest, I don’t think they should have pitched up Bianca’s voice to begin with. That specific line sounds much more natural on Gamecube at 10:20. She pretty much sounds the same as she did in Spyro 3 in that moment so I don’t know why they decided to pitch up Pamela Hayden’s voice for ETD.
Ya'll all fought Ripto was trying to turn Spyro to the dark-side when really he was just being 'cultured' referencing movies he loves! The reference was just as lost on me as it was for dear lil' Spyro! (An oddity I've found is the strangeness of Bathlowmew disappearing post this game and the yeti's turning bad in Hero's Tail.)
On the first point -- Sparx picking up gems further-away from Spyro the healthier he is -- wasn't that also the case in Spyro the Dragon? I'm sure in Spyro 2 that isn't the case, nor in Spyro 3 (before the Crawdad powerup that does extend the distance), but I'm sure in the first-one it did vary? 🤔
I can't remember if you've mentioned it before, but I did manage to get the Atlas icons to display on screen whilst the book itself was closed. I have footage of it too.
I think I remember seeing Sparx with red eyes on the Atlas sometimes... I wonder why that happens. Thank you for making this series! Always fun to watch.
Now that I’m curious I will see if there is anything interesting in my manual of this game that I have since I live in the Netherlands so it might be different 😁
I remember chatting with you back around 2018 on Twitter and UA-cam comments when you first started your documentary series, I think you even put me down as a special thanks for helping with the Kingsley Documentary and finding concept art, time flies! Thank you for all the work you've done Kyle, you helped inspire me to start my own journey documenting obscure games and for that I'm forever grateful. Can't wait to play the upcoming mod and check out any other videos you create
Oh but the end... Just now that I found a new one (the textures of the honeycombs in honey marsh are of higher quality than those of the beehives and the honeycomb from dragon realms).
Interesting observation, checking the files they are both 128 x 128 but they differ in tint, one is more saturated than the other strangely! There are various other cases in the game where lower and higher quality versions of the same textures are used.
I’ll consider doing a Bonus Oddities episode one day. With my videos I always try to keep everything unique, as to not repeat info I’ve previously shown - so that makes things hard to always find 50 new tidbits that aren’t commonplace knowledge.
Since you're an expert at this game from inside and out, do you know or can you explain why the character models of EtDF look like that? Did they reused the same PS1 model but with extra polygons on top of them?
No, they didn’t reuse any models from the PS1 games. They were not given access to the models of those games either despite begging for them, so the characters had to be modeled and based off the existing animations from the Trilogy on a screen used as a reference in the case of Spyro specifically.
The whole Oddities series contains 500 Oddities - it's gotten trickier with each installment to finish it as I want each fact to be unique and mostly or completely brand new information to the general public. I'll likely do another series in the future that focuses on prototype or cut content.
Does the February 2001 design document mentioned at 3.26 contain all the information for all the levels and initial ideas for the names and enemies? Is it possible to find it somewhere? Great work as always!
Yes, the design document mentions all cut levels by their various pitched names and the enemies they would’ve had. I got ahold of it back in 2020 and you can see it explained here in detail at 8:38 - ua-cam.com/video/F-6nTLkrxcw/v-deo.htmlsi=jCLg_kRRsSlqr8zc
This video is mainly PS2 footage unless otherwise stated. Most oddities apply to the GameCube versions as well, and there’s even more jank and issues with the GameCube versions compared to the PS2 ones.
@@MrFO1 Really? Wow here I thought because the GameCube version had faster loading times and is on stronger hardware it'd be the better version with everything. But with the development of this game anything going wrong is possible 😂 Love the work you're doing for this btw. The day your mod releases will be the best day for a Spyro fan since 3 released in 2000
@@fizzyfuzz5878 Yeah it’s a very common misconception that the GameCube version is superior to the PS2 one. GameCube has many new bugs like missing effects, details, polygons, textures, dialogue, etc. The mod hopefully releases by the end of the year though I don’t want to rush it, still actively working on polishing it up.
@@MrFO1 Great to hear! You and the people making great mods for Reignited Trilogy are the heroes of the Spyro fandom. Curious though, which effects are missing in the GameCube version that the PS2 version has?
@@fizzyfuzz5878 Various effects. Most prominently one called c6EnviornmentFog which is essentially a tint across a whole level and its assets. Simply compare any level from PS2 and GC and you’ll see the fog missing.
I’m still working on it, the longer it takes the better the final product. There’s things that only become possible to implement as time goes on. The next video should be another Mod Showcase sometime.

I never expected to ever see a final oddities video 🥺
A new series of videos like the Oddities installments will likely happen later on, don't worry!

@@jeroenboth167 That's likely the case as some of the foreign manuals have unique screenshots of the game that the US version lacks.
