- I'm on a holiday wasting my time away
Writing a book on you born on a holiday
In the December snow wasting my time away
Writing a book on you born on a holiday
Somewhere in this song
A little clue to something (clue to something)
Parts of it seem over now
You expect a real solution (real solution)
I've got to go with what I know
Taking it on a holiday away
I've done my share of drugs (they drag me down)
I've done my share of speed (it kept me up)
I've had the strangest love (it's all I need)
I've had the things I need (I need it now)
When everthing seems wrong
I need to look to something (look to something)
People outside inside staying
Out for nothing (out for nothing)
And if you're in I can't let go
Short of the long holiday
I think you know what I've been saying
When there's nothing left to all
The colors that you sprayed upon it
Passing judgment on my life
You never really got it right
I can't believe in anything
I don't believe in anything
Do you believe in anything
Do you believe me now
Look like Jesus Christ
Act like Jesus Christ I know...
Here's your Jesus Christ
I'm your Jesus Christ I know...
Bleeding to death again (my bleeding heart)
Stuck in the heart again (goes out to you)
Somebody nail my hands (I needed pain)
Somebody take my hand (I bleed again)
I knew it all along and now
We're screwed forever (screwed forever)
Shake these demons off my back
And I can make it better (make it better)
But I can't go on knowing I am
Permanent on this holiday
I think you know what I am saying
I became the big disgrace
I know that I'm the ugly face
I need some time to reconcile
I need some time to heal a while
You'll be sorry when I'm gone
I guess you knew this all along
The perfect blend of Workbook and New Day Rising. Perhaps my favorite post Du song by Mould.
Happy Beaster 💨
unbelievably powerfull !! For me, it's the ultimate rock song.
+Knolankage Amen to that.
with all respect due, husker du doing 8 miles high in philly circa 1983 is one of the best vids on youtube. the entire show is up...i like bob and grants post stuff, but most Sugar stuff sounds too 90s and dated. grants "intolerance" is really overlooked. 2541 coulda been a classic Du tune, and its the address of the bands old practice space. personal, timeless. search that 83 vid.
Rarely are songs as heavy as this one so melodic. It is still one intense song.
i know a band who had an album called Zen Arcade or some shit and it was super heavy and showed sounds of melody and the band was more than a punk band doing Byrds covers....just kiddin'....this is Moulds best song post Du. Hands down. Grant Hart had some post Du classics way before, though
This song still scares me. Terrifying brilliance.
Jesus Christ that's a good chorus.
I bet Pete Townshend was in awe first time he heard this. Blew my head off when it came out.
BOB RULES!!!Saw this live on the Copper Blue tour. Was so intense I couldn't speak about it for two years, yes REALLY!!!
daryl bond I caught that tour ..awesome
It is a great record. He brought back the melody that was missing on Black Sheets of Rain.
i rate this the best of all Sugar songs
Agreed.
@@mattgilbert7347 Seconded!
My favourite christmas song.
Absolutely brutal this, cheers Bob.
Soundtrack to a good night
When the chorus kicks in there are a few bars which are the purest most joyous pop music going.
Yes they were hardcore, yes they kicked up a glorious angry racket, but they were also power pop at its purest and sweetest.
I like your analysis. It is power pop taken to its limit. If Chris Bell of Big Star had lived longer he and Bob could have made magic.
they evolved wiith every album...they still rocked hard until the end. they just grew up and played what they liked.
Remember this being on the NME's "Priceless Creation" CD many years ago.
Awesome track.
Mutha Of Creation tape off the NME. This beauty was on there as well ua-cam.com/video/EC8GtvAzDFQ/v-deo.html
This, Tilted and Underneath Days (live) have to be the three most ferociously beautiful tracks in Rock music, with the rest of his back catalogue coming in a close 2nd.
best Sugar tune. ive also done my share of drugs...judgement passed but nobody got it right, either. they'll be sorry when i'm gone...
I became the big disgrace
I know that I'm the ugly face
great song from an amazing artist.
Thank you so much. My hard drive is fucked and I needed to hear this. X
Nice 👍
Bob redeefined modern rock music in the 80s with husker du....his solo stuff is legendary...and then sugar in the 90s....seen the guy coumtless times and he can do no wrong..plus what a gent in the flesh.
there were two other guys in the band, too. jc,
The fucking guardian liked him. What a shock.
Some of Bob's best work here.... the SUGAR stuff was just as important as the Husker Du stuff, although I didn't realize it at the time. When I saw him at Irving Plaza outside after the show, he wished us luck finding our car. we did.
why does every look past Grant Hart, though? Intolerance is Hart playing everything, 2541 is as good as anything on Flip Your Wig and the album is miles better than Moulds first two solo records...Sugar was great, but I dont think he matched Intolerance.
This is my favorite Bob Mould song. It's just a wall of sound with a lot of passion. Instead of this being an EP he should have held onto them and put them on the next album.
agreed. the best often end up on singles and ep's
Listen to that HUGE wall of sound just from the guitar! Must be an army of guitarists right? Nah, just Bob Mould, the one man guitar army!
sreve jones did 40 tracks for each song to create that wall. i bet bob did a few. its a little easier than the 70s. try and play the same song exact 20x...not easy
Beautiful, moving and best played very very loud, god bless you Bob.
Somewhere in this song
A little clue to something (clue to something)
Parts Of It Seem Over Now
You Expect A Real Solution (real solution)
....P.O.I.S.O.N.
Y.E.A.R.S.
wow
RIP Grant
Evil and melodic sounding, then the song kicks it up a notch. So amazing. Some of the best lyrics Bob has ever written.
I always come back to Bob for this sound
Evil? A little edge is inherently evil-sounding? I'm not hearing what you're hearing, mate, lol.
A lot of pent-up emotions went into this one for Bob.
there is little better recorded than this, rage, nwa, can make the headlines, this is perfection made fucking loud.
I love it. Beaster was fantastic. Thanks, man.
A maelstrom of guitar noise.
SOMEBODY NAIL MY HANDS!!!
This is ferocious, there's a killer live version of it on the bonus live disc that comes with the Copper Blue Deluxe Re-issue he put out in 2012.
Whoops, misread the comment.
and previous to this the B side of Tilted
this is good music with a great wall of sound like phil spector on XTC
This never fails to blow my fucking mind.
that's what i call a kickass song!
That look of strength, intelligence, and balance @ 3:15 is priceless.
@ThePremierCs me too. I had a tape in the 90s that came free with a music magazine, and it had a live version of this. Just blew me away.
Best song on the EP
amazing song, with all the referencies.
I bought it back in the late 90s (97 I think) for a buck and a half. I wasn't disappointed.
Hey. Thanks for those potatoes.
Wow...
Fucking incredible!
The live version of this from the Tilted single is boss. Bob and David both screaming bloody murder on the choruses!
We
I KNOW I KNOW I KNOW I KNOW
I KNOW I KNOW I KNOW I KNOW
I KNOW I KNOW I KNOW I KNOW
Geez, Bob sure nailed him... uhm... it.
For me it's 'hope you're feeling better' but its all excellrnt-Sugar should have been huge
Fuck yeah!
Bob mould disco
Just ordered on discogs.com
I'm on a "cassette replacement" mission
peter daigle I LOVE that! A "Cassette Replacement Mission". Perfect. And I understand entirely. 👍
@ThePremierCs - Yeah, for me it's a toss up between JC Auto and The Act We Act... but since I love all of Bob Mould's work, it's tough to play favorites.
"Sacrifice (Let There Be Peace)"
Fuck me what a song.
what kind of music(i think of rock music) is it.?
The best kind
it's a pop song
classic
MOM! Close the door!! NO, I wasn't pleasuring myself. I was just listening to music. Seriously, I was only listening to......yeah, ok, I'm gay mom. Sure, mom, Bob Mould made me gay.
Ok, mother, I will listen to your James Brown records with you if it will make you happy. Jesus.
Was this song sacrilegious or atheist?
Both and neither
Heavy music.
