  • It's early morning at the Fraser Point Bald Eagle nest on Santa Cruz Island, California.
The 10-week old eaglets, Manini and Reign are on the nest alone exercising their wings and looking around the area.
Manini hops across the nest and around the side while Reign watches, then Manini goes to the left side and looks downward.
S/He tries to hop onto the side of the nest, but it gives out and collapses taking Manini with it! Lots of flapping is heard below the nest.
The cam goes looking and finds Manini below the nest seemingly unharmed. Reign is up on the nest wondering "How did you do that?!"
Neither of the parents, Cruz or Andor, have come to the nest yet to discover what has happened. They will certainly be surprised and will continue to care for Manini.
Manini is busy exploring the area underneath the nest for now.
A young eagle's like is full of surprises, luckily all is well at Fraser Point

Oh my! Reign alerted like an adult and seemed very concerned. I hope all goes well.

Yes, Reign was upset all day and even tonight standing up looking out. I expect all will be fine and Manini will be highly motivated to get some flight and get off the ground :) - thank you!

He's doing great flying around the area with the parents taking care of him. Soon he will make it back up to the nest. Thank you!

    落ちる雛を見て驚くだけでなく泣き叫んで安否を心配して下を見る雛の姿が何とも言えないです。

Ty for the video..didn’t see it happen live. Thankfully the one that fell is going to be ok. The sibling on nest did look concerned and made alerting sounds

Yes, exactly - it should all be OK. I wonder how long it will take for the one who's on the ground to really be able to fly. Should be able to, but couldn't manage it today. Time will tell. thank you RavenSpirit917

The island foxes have been almost completely wiped out on Santa Cruz by the golden eagles that started nesting there in the 90s; so predation by the islands only native predatory mammal is not a threat on the ground. Unfortunately, it is believed that the abundance of feral piglets was what drew the golden eagles in the first place which means a large population of feral pigs. Possibly the most destructive non-native omnivore imaginable. Hope those pigs do not represent a threat to this young eagle while he is trapped on the ground.

Yes! Apparently they have eradicated the feral pigs from Santa Cruz Island, luckily, so that's great. The Island Foxes are so very small, weighing only about 4 pounds while the eaglet weighs about 10 pounds so he can hopefully keep one at bay with his big wings flapping and aggressive posturing. And the golden eagles were moved off the Island, too! Hopefully a parent will return soon and also hopefully he'll make his way up to any branch off the ground. Thanks for your insightful comment, I appreciate it!

Yes, we've seen likely fly-bys and this morning June 20 he flew back to the nest tree and came back onto the nest! Yay! Thank you!
