CpK is a much better calculation than a 4:1 Test Uncertainty Ratio (TUR) to control Measurement Risk

- Many in metrology use Test Uncertainty Ratio (TUR) to try and control measurement risk; however, when one does not calculate TUR correctly (many do not) or pay attention to the location of the measurement, the level of risk or probability of false acceptance (PFA) can be much greater than 5 %. Thus, we propose using a statistical tool such as CpK as it considers the measurement's location and can control the level of risk passed on. Far too many calibration laboratories pass the risk to the company requesting service without them knowing and then onto the consumer. The reason you should care is passing high measurement risk can lead to bad decisions, failures in products we use, and ultimately impact you, your friends, your family, and others' safety. When measurement uncertainty is propagated correctly, and the proper calculations are made to limit the measurement risk, the world becomes safer.
