Since there is an issue with the torques in these transmissions what are your thoughts on replacing them before they start to fail?

I hate to assume , but I assume you are asking because you own a truck with this transmission in it and as yet are not experiencing any problems and want to just replace a converter and try to avoid problems. If that is so there are some other problems that need to be addressed that also help make these converters go out. You can get by for a while just replacing it, depending on whose converter you use, but the valve body wear also has a big part to play in it and the regulator valve in the pump. If you can find a place that would do patch work and replace what you ask for, unless you are going to tackle this yourself. You really need to put a converter, Sonnax zip kit and switch valve repair kit, bare minimum. By that time you are real close to rebuild price and might as well do a rebuild and also put in a bushing kit. We were having problems a few years ago with torque converters only lasting about a year after the rebuild. Found that putting a zip kit in has fixed most of those problems. Have also started using torque converters from Precision of New Hampton, they are now building a heavier duty billet converter for this and is well worth the extra cost. I am sure there are other converter places that are good also, that is just who we use.

@@CurmudgeonTransmission No, Tom I am pretty sure mine is going to have to have a major done on it. I have not pulled the pan yet and its no being driven. I was just thinking that if the main issue with the 6L80 was the torque then a person with one with low miles on it might consider changing it. Your reply explains that there are things that contribute to the torque failing. I was thinking the the torques were the main problem. Thanks again for your time and insight..
