    I watch a channel that doesn’t do follow ups. It’s so frustrating. Seeing how a plant grows is crucial to decide if it’s something that appeals to you, performs well, and is good beyond the initial planting. You get it. Thanks.

    I have a funny volunteer sunflower story. We had been renting a place for years and when we moved into our current house I was so excited to have space to garden but I didn't have a lot of resources to go big in the first few years. Anyway I wanted to grow something so I got a pack of sunflower seeds and planted just a small patch of them by the house. We've now had sunflowers popping up in the lawn for the past two years and I refuse to let them be mowed over. So now I go out when I see one coming up and that little patch of lawn around them is my responcibilty. I just love them too much. They want to grow and they're beautiful.

    Thank you for taking the time to explain the basil and how to preserve it and what to do with it. That's what I love about your channel is that you really look out for everybody and you don't hold back on thinking that all people will already know that because I didn't know any of it, actually.

    Jess, I am also moving from my garden in August. Only moving to college but I won’t be able to come home very easily. I’m starting to plant pumpkins and stuff that I won’t even get to see in person. Everyone in my neighborhood are super excited to see all of my plants growing and I’ll admit that I am bitter that I won’t be around the garden at all. It’s really helped me to watch these videos and realize I’m not the only one leaving my baby behind. I have plants to bring for my dorm room and my aunt lives close to my campus, I’m having her plant some of my favorite pumpkins for me :)

    Hey Jess, my 79 year old dad said to me a few weeks ago "You cant kill an onion". In his opinion the weather is not an issue with onions. And I found that to be true. All my bulbing onions, walking onions and bunching onions, they all survived all of the late frosts and cold weather. From just a handful of bulbs that I got from Papa Pepper 2 years ago, I now have enough walking onions to feed a small country. I appreciate that you showed us what happened with the ground cherries. Between the cold weather and doing the same exact thing with almost ALL OF MY TOMATOES a few weeks ago, I ended up with about 6 good tomato plants out of about 50. Oh. Well. God knows what we need and every year is different. So I will start again and will maybe have fall tomatoes instead. So thanks for showing us that you did that with your ground cherries. Its not as much of a tragedy in my opinion, as accidently killing your tomato babies after MONTHS of nurturing them like they were newborn babies, but it still made me feel like less of a disaster of a garden mother. I knew better. I really did, but just got impulsive. And I don't think it will ever happen again.

  • @searose6192
    @searose6192 3 роки тому +3

    My best tomato plants I ever grew were some I tossed out on a window sill when they were super leggy seedlings because I had way too many and planned to compost them. They got horribly sunburned and whacked about by wind and hardly watered and guess what, after all their leaves fell off they grew back crazy lush with sturdy stocky main stems and they never even needed staking despite a huge harvest! The other seedlings from the same batch that I babied and hardened off super gently stayed leggy, set fruit late and never ripened before frost hit. That was my biggest surprise/lesson as a gardener so far and it made me move to direct seeding my tomatoes to make sure they deal with all the elements they will have to deal with at maturity, right from the start. It's led to better tomato harvests for me the past 2 years.

    Back when it was still dipping into the 30’s here in southern AZ I planted snap peas to see what they’d do and they are still pushing out peas left and right, it hit 100 the other day CRAZY!

    Please try this salad with the chinese cabbage, it will need to be thinly sliced with julienne of carrots and grated green smith apple, salt, pepper, olive oil, white wine vinegar 🥰 please try it, as a salad doesn't get soggy ❤ very tasty and healthy

    Comfrey - the magic medicine of bone mending and wound healing. Green salve is a historic Native American salve with comfrey and broadleaf plantain that is used to heal skin injuries and broken bones. I have built an herbal company with salves that heal the body’s challenges with farm and homestead living! Love your adventure - I am inspired and fixing to cultivate a garden modeled from your place as we also move out onto a new property as well (not the acreage you folks are tackling in SC though)- gonna be fun!!!!

    Yes! Comfrey is such a great plant. I use it as a poultice to suck out bruises and blood clots. Works really good!

    Jess, while I sit through the winter I re-watch some tours just to see what kind and how your tomatoes are doing. This video we only got a broad wave to the tomato rows. I do understand they are still young, but a showing would still be awesome. Everything looks amazing!

    Every time you wonder at your chives making it through your winter, I smile and have a little chuckle. I live in Ontario (Canada), and my chives come back from minus fourty celcius, no cover (other than snow) and being planted in a wood planter :)

    It is so useful to be able to see how big plants can get BEFORE you plant them in your own garden. Gives you a much better idea of how many to plant, how far apart, and how likely a plant is to take over the whole garden and attempt world domination.
