Omg I love your channel and vibe so much! You’re awesome.
Happy to have stumbled across another vegan backpacker! This meal looks great, I'll have to try it!
Cool, I didn’t know you could cold soak the pearls too
Thank you! For all your vegan hiking meal ideas. I never know what to make.
I just found your channel and love your meal ideas! Thank you for such great content! Enjoy your hike and the Mediterranean style couscous! The dolce and coconut remind me of a marina meal.
For some reason your comment made me think of trying mango in it with some ginger and banana chips!
I am glad to see you used pearl couscous. I feel it's less messy and heartier than regular couscous in normal cooking. I haven't tried it yet. Would love to know how you like it cold soaked.
I do like using it. One of the reasons is just the fact that it's a totally different texture then a lot of the other things that would get cold soaked.
@@PaultheBackpacker I would expect that. I like the texture when cooked as well. I'm going to explore recipes with it for when I do the Chinese Wall in the Bob Marshall
Sounds good.
Curly Cranberry Coconut Couscous
I’m not so sure about this recipe though 😝 the one you mention in the end with the gravy sounds a lot better. Do you have a dry vegan gravy recipe? 😃
I don't remember which one I used in the video of that going back and watching it, pretty much all the videos have a brown gravy from Simply Organic. It says vegetarian, but looking at the ingredients vegan also.
sounds great, but normally those soy curls need to be baked after soaking. Isnt it bad to eat it right away, without baking it?
@@PaultheBackpacker oh wow I did not know that! Thanks for the great videos ;-)
It's basically like any other dried vegetable. So if you do cook it you're actually not changing it, you're just heating it up.
I dunno Paul, this would be pretty tasty after a few minutes over a stove lol.
I'd be done, finished with dessert, cleaned up, and sitting by the river with a good book by the time you light your stove :)
Paul the Backpacker hahahahaha! 1) I didn’t realize it was a race, and 2) while you’re waiting 90 minutes for the wheat to soften, I’d be soaked for 15, cooked for 5 and wondering what we were waiting for. And I’d have that hot meal in my belly. You must not have ever lit up a Jetboil lol. Even a Vegan can do it. I’m proof lol.
Ha... shows how much you know :-) I only prepared gluten-free meals and never bring anything that needs more than 10 minutes of soaking which just happens to be how long it takes me to set up camp, go into the woods and use my bidet, and return!
Paul the Backpacker hold it, you know that couscous is 100% wheat flour right?
Reminds me of Thanksgiving, name it After Thanksgiving Leftovers lol
I have a meal with dehydrated potato flakes, the soy curls are TVP, grade Annex, and dried cranberries. That's my Thanksgiving leftover meal!
Thanks for introducing the soy curls. These are great. My secret ingredient is Shields date farm Date Crystal's. Sheilds is a date farm near Palm Desert.
Just went to check to see what brand my date crystals are and I can't even find them! Very good whole food sweetener and I mention them on a few other videos here.
