    That actually makes so much sense! Cause the back of the blade literally won’t let you being flat!

    The rocker part on an ice skate is kinda like going on relevé in dance, I’m guessing you cannot turn well with the whole blade on the ice, same way with you can’t turn very well in dance on flat feet.

      try squeezing everything together and pressing your elbows to your chest when you pull in. if that's not working pull your arms down, like girl's basketball screen to a boy's

    When u start learning spins dint worry about this part usually it just comes naturally whenever u do it so if u keep thinking abt this u will end up going on ur toe pick and falling so don’t think abt it u will spin on ur rocker without even trying

    I remember I was spinning on my toe pick because my rocker wasn’t at the ball of my foot but the thing is my skates were like a size and a half to big for me and I started learning double axels at the time so it was really hard for me to land😭✋

    What's the difference between cheap and expensive blades?

    • @sofiafigureskates
      @sofiafigureskates  10 місяців тому

      blades on cheap skates are usually flatter which makes them harder to spin on and they usually have small toepicks which can make jumps difficult. expensive blades are also made out of a higher grade of steel than cheaper blades!

    Hiii so i have a question. Recently I've started figure skating and I'm doing great so far. I learnd couple of jumps and now I'm moving onto spins. And I've been trying and trying and trying...and i see progress but i can never get it to be perfect like yours. And when i saw this video i realised that my skates don't have a rocker. They do have a toepick but not a rocker so i was just wondering is that maybe the reason why my spins aren't working out? It could also be that my skates aren't sharpened...but i don't know. Is my missing rocker a problem.
    I would appreciate the answers, I'm this close to losing my mind over those spins.

  • @isaacmorgan123

    What is the toepick meant for? Please explain.

    • @1-stole-your-toast
      @1-stole-your-toast 10 місяців тому +4

      The toepick is mostly made for jumps, When skaters are jumping they take off of their toepick and land on them too!

    • @Nunelii
      @Nunelii 10 місяців тому +3

      You use your toepick for toe jumps (flip, lutz and toeloop), and for some step variations. Don’t be like my beginner friend I took ice skating with me who said it was made for stopping. I mean yeah you can use it to stop indeed. But be ready to kiss the ice.

    • @sophialiu4043
      @sophialiu4043 10 місяців тому +1

      Some jumps require you to launch yourself off of the toepick

    • @tailgaity
      @tailgaity 10 місяців тому

      it's not really possible to spin on the whole blade if you're not on the rocker you will probably either just stop spinning or fall out of it
