Very good information and really helpful GP. The company i work for has 300 plus of these Ansul Fire Extinguishers in our Plants and Compressor Stations along with our fleet of company vehicles. They are very reliable. Probably 90% of these are the dry chemical type that requires the CO2 cartridges. Every 6 months we are required to do a teardown and inspection. In a Petroleum and Natural Gas byproduct Plant you definitely want your Fire Extinguishers to perform well. Good evening Dean! Thanks for sharing. I have to admit, I do feel a lot better now having it strapped to the tractor. It gets pretty dry out in the forest in the mid summer, and after watching that video from Josh on Stoney Ridge Farmer, I knew I had to look after it. Cheers and all the best my friend!
Once a month take the extinguisher out if it's bracket, turn it upside down and shake the powder loose, otherwise it will cake and get hard in the bottom of the cylinder from the vibration of the tractor.

What about the cabin? Smoke detectors/CO detectors and extinguishers in good working order?
Something to consider for the dryer months(summer) is a water can sprayer or back pack sprayer. All the dry areas can light up from a spark or hot piece of machinery.
You might consider even a wetting agent (i.e. Cold Fire) it cools faster and can be used to suppress the vapors in a fuel fire (dry chem doesn't do this).
As one other commentor stated was a tourniquet.
Something you could apply one handed. As most of your injuries will be minor, using chainsaws and PTO's and auger/bladed devices could lead to a extreme bleed situation. And another possibility is blood thinners/medications that one of you good ol' boys could be on.
I would recommend the North American Rescue C.A.T. (Combat Application tourniquet) Or Recon medicals take on the C.A.T ( I carry this one).
Big warning don't but cheap versions on Amazon or ebay.

Yup, always have the house and cottage looked after - every floor ( extinguishers and detectors) and after a small fire years ago, I spent the money to put in the Nest protects - raising the three daughters we have had 4 small fires (learning to cook) and those nest units are priceless - the phone notifications on the lock screen notify you and if you don't acknowledge it within about 5 seconds, it begins repeatedly dinging your phone with increasing frequency and volume until you do. For some reason, I did not even think about the shed and tractor until folks suggested it. I will talk to Guy - he has an old army first aid bag (from his dad, I think) - I will find out what tourniquet he has in there and look into these ones. Appreciate you sharing the safety aspect of being prepared. Especially if you are out in the woods working like you said, away from the house. Made me thing that even though I have two in the house, I have none in my shop or on my tractor. Need to have one there as well.

Another fire extinguisher to consider is a "Class A" they are pressurized water containers usually in a S.S. housing. Great for forest fires and small brush fires. When ever i cut i have one in the woods with me. You can mix antifreeze in them to keep them from freezing in the winter. Usually i put mine away when the snow is around.

Really great video GP! This was perfect timing because i was JUST thinking the other day about how I needed to buy a fire extinguisher for my new skid-steer and then I thought "while I'm at it i should get one for the bx and one for the inside my work shop as well" (being that its so close to my house). I also don't have insurance on my equipment so having a fire extinguisher is great mental insurance as well as a peace of mind. Great video to do and VERY important, Often we forget about the risks we may be taking so this video is great for reminding people who run equipment of the risks and dangers. Thanks GP

A CAT tourniquet is a must as well. If you're doing anything with chain saws or other things that can make you bleed. Cheap and effective

@@GPOutdoors No Problem They are the standard. I would also highly recommend taking a "Stop The Bleed" program. I would assume they have them, or the equivalent in Canada. It is a quick program and will show you how to control bleeding. Keeping our blood inside us is pretty important.
You know, that's something I've never thought of. So simple but at the same time so important...when one is needed. We kept one on our corn picker and combine back on the home place and I have them in the house and shed...but not a single tractor or piece of equipment. Such a good topic to bring up sir !! One of the things I found out is that the dry chemical compound in a fire extinguisher can get so compacted that it won’t work. You should be able to turn the extinguisher upside down while holding it close to your ear and hear the compound flow to the top/ bottom of the extinguisher cylinder. You can take a rubber hammer and gently tap the cylinder to break it free. With the great suspension on a tractor I can see where this might be a problem. If you can’t get the compound flowing the extinguisher will need to be serviced by a licensed extinguisher firm.

This will give you a good piece of mind when you need it. I had an old Volkswagen Camper bus that lit up on fire when I was cruising down the highway many years ago no fire extinguisher total loss. I was taken home in a bathing suit and flip-flops!!!!

Good advice .I have two in the kitchen under sink / two big ones in shop and garage beside the breeze way in house . One sitting on bench too be attached rops on tractor . Good reminder too get it on the tractor . We use that brand at work in the steel mill . They always work good . 👍 My insurance company did a home inspection a while back . First thing they asked on the inspection of house was show them the fire extinguishers. Then the smoke detectors . Then carbon monoxide detector . All was good 👍

Great idea adding a fire extinguisher to both the tractor and the shed!
Regarding the baler fire. Balers are notorious for causing fires. Also batwing mowers around the drive lines if dry grass accumulates too much.

Good deal Gord. You might want to put some rubber between the extinguisher and the tractor. Help guard against rubbing the paint off ether surface. It’s amazing how much our tractors can shake,rattle and roll through out the day.

always good to be prepared. Off topic but I injured my leg splitting ash fence posts years ago. by the time I got to the house my shoe was full of blood. I now carry a first response bag in my back seat. I've used it once or twice since then on myself and others for small stuff. Only problem is keeping up with certain supplies that expire. I also carry eye protection in every toolbox. I seem to learn the hard way :)

Great advice. We've got 3 of different sizes between 2 sheds but I hadn't thought of mounting one on the tractor. I've seen photos of completely burnt out tractors, so you've probably only got seconds to get a tractor fire under control.

It’s a good reminder to everyone that having one in your vehicles could help. Good evening GP the very first one ( Ansul model ) we have that exact type in all our DND motor vehicle and they are strong build !!! You can cover the top of your fire extinguisher with a rubber material so il will prevent the frost from snow or rain and avoid corrosion. It will kept the firing mechanism in great shape too !!!! Great info Gord. I never thought about putting one on the L2501. You got me motivated now. Going to get a CO2 version like I have in the shop and secure it to the ROPS. I never cared for the powder type because it makes a major mess to cleanup, but it does do the job and CO2 types are a lot more expensive. Glad you have the snow and I don't..I hate cold weather, LOL.

Great video Gord. I use a Halotron chemical fire extinguisher on my B2601 as well as one in the truck. Halotron is quite a bit more expensive but if you ever use one on the tractor or a vehicle the benefit is no thermal shock and no residue to clean up afterwords.

Great video Gord . I have many fire extinguishers all over the place . Yes in the kitchen but also away from the kitchen incase I can't get to it . By the furnace , in my truck , my boats , my RV and I have one in my kitchen tent . Can't forget the garage . You just never know . When I store my RV I take out the fire extinguisher just incase some wise guy breaks in and blasts the entire inside with powder . I saw that video where Stoney had his bailer catch on fire and he lost that bail . It could have turned out really bad for him . He could have lost his bailer , tractor and the entire field could have caught on fire . He was lucky . A bearing caused the fire . Better be safe than sorry . Nice of that viewer to send you a couple of fire extinguishers . Maybe having one near your outdoor generator .

The Element Fire Extinguishers (elementfire.com) seem perfect for my compact tractor. Much smaller than any other option, but last much longer. Never need service. Completely stabile and weather-resistant. They are not much bigger than a road flare, as so easy to attach in any number of places on a tractor.
Smart move, GP. I too have fire extinguishers in my tractor shed, my kennel, and the house garage but not on the tractor. I will invest in one more extinguisher (smile). You might want to tape a soft cap over those extended bolts on your 4 inch U-Bolt just to keep them from snagging something or snagging you (smile). Thanks Jack! I did two videos on the install - video #9 and #12 , I think. Got them on sale on Princess Auto - watch for the next sale- don;t pay full retail. LOL. I think I only paid about $19.00 CDN each. But awesome LED lights. They have 5 LED's in them. The two outside LED's are flood -type so they shoot light sideways as well as forward. The three inside "bulbs" are spot light type so they shoot forward. So, it lets me see clearly forward and backward but also allows me to see the sides of the forest light up. Love them, after almost 2 years now. Made it through 2 winters - temps as low as -40 celsius and still working!They are great. Hope that helps! Cheers!

Same place I mounted the extinguisher shortly after I got my B2601. I attached with zip ties and it's never moved. I took a couple of pictures but can't copy here :( It may show on one of my videos.
