really interesting video, Frs! People really seem to like discussing angels/demons in this culture, so more episodes on this topic would be warmly received! God bless.
Thank you so much for all of your work - I am slowly making my way through and it is having a huge impact on my spiritual growth as a new Catholic. God Bless you all.
Thank you so much for sharing your skills and talents with us. I can almost hear angels speaking the wonders of God through your generosity and sacrifice. May God bless us with heroic holiness and happiness, always.
You have most certainly heard it before, but I recently discovered these videos and I am ecstatic I found them. They are presented in an excellent format and appeal to my mostly analytical way of understanding. Every one of them enriches me tremendously. I am in my “senior” years but still very much seeking more communion with God. I have also been listening to some of the podcasts. Sadly, these instructions are not found at the parish or customary meetings. I have been sharing some with my son who has stopped practicing. I have no words to properly show my appreciation to the Dominicans for this effort. You are exceptional.
For deeper connection with god you have to go beyond analycal mind and deep into stillness ,right brain hemisphere connection to heart,to feel and embody divine spirit within its another level compared to just a mental concept in ones head
@@arete7884Aquinas would strongly agree there. We honor his books so much that we forget that Aquinas lived a life in deep meditation and prayer. I'd say you cannot even hope to reach these mysteries without this: A complete theologian is both an academic and a mystic
@@crusaderACR Disagree on academic, divine doesnt care about human dogmas and ways of packaging it ,thats why theres some many religions ways of interpreting divine through lens of culture
@@arete7884 It's unnecessary, sure. But it's good work. I wouldn't say the Divine hates it or doesn't care, why would we have so much theology in the Bible then? God wants us to understand Him "with all of our heart and all of our mind"
When the Priest speak about angels being present at the mass he speaks of the presence of the saints in the same breath. "Together with the Angels and Saints let us pray". My question is how is the presence of the Saints at the Mass is to be understood. How it would be similar or different from that of the Angels.
The distinction that he draws in the video is instructive. One can be present in a place locally or by exercising influence there. The saints exercise influence insofar as they worship God and minister to men in peculiar fashion in the context of the sacred liturgy.
All videos are very educational and a lot to take in I enjoyed the chart on our upper, mind and will, and lower part, body and etc, bot can't find it to review it. It appeared as a chart. Thank you. I feel more enlightened.
Thats why in prayer and meditation we are silent we silence our mind! Cause the way of communication of the Angels who are pure spirits with intellect and will is through silence! I remember the saying in the corridor of a college Catholic School it says Speech is silver Silence is Golden! K
That was an important, informative video, with important truths delivered. Its surely good to know how evil ,the fallen angels are n not to be led into sin by them.
Waooo this video was everything i was hoping for and confirmed my knowledge about Angels of Gd and angels of satan. Thanks you Fr for this gift of knowledge. Jesus we trust in You always Amen
I see the angel as patterns of being, like when someone is angry, he can be possessed by that anger, or by the god of war in another perspective. The same is true with a positive spirit or mindset. What make you believe there is an existential reality beyond a pattern in our minds.
Thank you for sharing all this knowledge and reflection! Is there a book with these lessons? I am deeply touched and interested and would love to have a book where I could read up and reference these complex subjects. Thank you in advance!
Thank you for this teaching. It is literally a gift. I am a bit confused however, and I hope you can clarify something for me. If angels are the ones who give us inspiration to pray more during the mass and help man to be more intellectual Then what does the Holy Spirit do? I always understood it is the Holy Spirit who leads you into deep worship and personally I even feel He allows the transcending of Good ideas from God to man.
You're absolutely correct and the two sources are not in conflict. Sometimes the Holy Spirit does so directly, sometimes through the mediation of angels, sometimes through the prayers of the saints, sometimes through the inspiration of a beloved friend. God (the Holy Spirit) is not just one cause among causes. He is the universal cause operative in and through all particular causes.
Angels do smile though. Even clap and celebrate when we overcome temptations and such graceful occasions. Not the way we do in our bodies but they do. Also they can manifest as human beings or anything really when needed. St. Paul writes about this in his letter to the Hebrews (chapter 13). They have a very significant role in carrying out Jesus's grace in our lives. It is a huge blessing to get to know our guardian angels. Also St. Michael, especially in times of fear and in these last times.
I have another question please. A guardian angel is given to a human soul from the time they are alive on earth. When the human being dies, does that same guardian angel get assigned to be the g.angel of another new human person to be born, or his job as a guardian angel is completed? Or does he become an eternal companion of the one he was guardian while on earth?
St. Thomas entertains this question in ST Ia Q. 113 (aquinas101.thomisticinstitute.org/st-ia-q-113#FPQ113A9THEP1). It seems from the arguments in aa. 2, 5, and 6 that a guardian angel is always assigned to the same person as somehow better befitting divine providence. So, between your options, the latter seems more likely. Mind you, this is a matter of speculation. Let us know what you think upon reading the question.
I have the utmost respect for Father James but this video brings up an interesting problem related to the Old Testament: The Nephilim were created as a result of mating between angels and mortal women. Is there an explanation?
Where is the church? If not it, being people that work interdependently with each other. Doing the work together. In ways that are not harmful to each other, but producing the multiplication of love.
@thomistic institute Does St. Aquinas comment on how the angels interact with us in Scripture? You explained the influential manner, but would the manner in which St. Raphael guided Tobias was of the first kind? Given a capacity to be contained therein?
Would someone please recommend an accessible textbook, which deals with the subject of Angels and Demons, that is available for purchase in the United Kingdom; in order that I might develop a greater understanding of this important topic. Thank you.
Do you think that there are any objections to materialism regarding angels. Such as angels illuminating the mind being reduced to neuronal changes and subconcious processes?
In arguing materialism, it's not always advantageous to start with the immaterial. St. Thomas himself admits that the reason we know that angels exist is because God reveals it in the Scripture. We cannot reason back to angels from observable realities in the world. There are no created effects specific to angels that cannot but be reasoned back to them since they don't play a comparable to the role that God plays in created being and agency. Thus, I don't know that angels provide the best rebuke to materialism in the apologetic order. But, it's certainly helpful for one to consider the angels as a way to address one's own tacit materialistic bent.
Thank you Fr for these clear explanations. How do we encourage ourselves and our children to pray for angelic lights? How is this done? Sorry for my lack of understanding. PAX
Glad to be of service to you. You might want to look up the traditional Prayer to the Guardian Angel and other prayers to the holy angels out there on many faithful Catholic websites.
But how do we perceive Angels? Are they the horrific chimeras who revealed themselves to Ezekiel? The beautiful hermaphrodites of Renaissance Annunciations?
They Would “see” and “hear” via clairvoyance. As far as passions go, we need to deal with long lasting myths/legends/stories like Genesis 6 (see LXX translation), jubilee,1Enoch, Jasper, etc. Perhaps the experience of these passions is retained after possession of human beings. Also, if angels have PK capacity, they may be able to “manifest” physical bodies via pk…

On a slightly different topic, how does "Accidents as opposed to substance" and "Accidents as opposed to essence" differ and relate specifically to the communion wine and/or host? For example, if a priest can get drunk off of communion wine, we would I presume say that the essence of wine includes alcohol, and an accident of that essence might be red or white wine. Clearly however we know that priests can get drunk off of communion wine and indeed that the essence of wine remains, so there must be something different between substance and essence? Does transubstantiation teach that the essence remains? Would it be analogous to you and I being human, that being our universal essence, but our substance is what individuates us? So what is the substance of wine as opposed to essence of wine, and what are the accidents of the essence of wine, and accidents of the substance of wine? How can I better understand this?
We'll have a few videos coming out on the subject in a few months. So stay tuned. In the interim, there's been plenty written on the subject. A good entry point is this series of lectures (soundcloud.com/thomisticinstitute/sets/the-eucharist-8-lectures-by-fr) by Fr. Thomas Joseph White, O.P. which you may find helpful.
Hi, could anyone enlighten what was happening in the Book of Tobit and Angel Raphael? Was he temporarily contained by God on earth or was he merely exercising his influence? The latter is a little hard to believe seeing as the book seems so literal.
I agree with this, the higher should help the low, because they are in need of help, just like the government in every nation, they should help there own people what they needed, developing there nation so there population will have better life and don't become oppressive. But the problem is some people don't do actions and instead they rely only. And also I believe everyones deserves an opportunity in there life.

I love the interpretation of angels and demons in this video. They are basic but expressive.
Thank you Rev Fr James Brent and Thanks Thomistic Institute. May God bless your mission.
Glad to be of service to you! May the Lord bless you!
This is one of my favorite UA-cam channels. Fantastic content. God bless you all!
We're so happy to hear it! Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment, and may the Lord bless you!
The holistic teaching was on another level. I sincerely hope they implement these kind of teaching here in Philippines.
really interesting video, Frs! People really seem to like discussing angels/demons in this culture, so more episodes on this topic would be warmly received! God bless.
Another due to drop on Monday afternoon!
The Hierarchy of Angels has helped me so much in my spiritual journey.
I was looking for it.
I'm happy to discover The Thomistic Institute videos. Looking forward to watching many more of them.
Brialliantly made, splendidly written and spoken. You deserve praise.
Our pleasure!
Many thanks! We're so glad you've found these videos. God bless you and your family.
An excellent summary of Angels and demons! Ave Maria!
Very helpful.
I recommended your channel to the Principal at my daughter’s Catholic School .
Frank
Thanks Frank!
So awesome. Come let us reason together. Love these brothers
Thanks for watching! God bless you.
I just found your channel and truly enjoy them. Thank you,
Glad to hear it! May the Lord bless you.
Good distinction between the different senses of location
Yes, super helpful and clarificatory!
First day I come across this channel. Guess what... I'm a subscriber. I realize there's so much to learn. Thanks much.
Wonderful, wonderful teaching thank you Father, may our Lord bless and increase your wisdom!
Same to you!
How is it possible that such great videos exist? Thank you!
Very interesting touch to depict the angels/demons here as more abstract shapes rather than humanoid
All videos are very educational and a lot to take in I enjoyed the chart on our upper, mind and will, and lower part, body and etc, bot can't find it to review it. It appeared as a chart. Thank you. I feel more enlightened.
Thank you for this video!
May our Lord Jesus Christ bless you!
This is awesome! Thank you so much!
Gladly!
Dominicans are bright! Gracias!
Thanks for watching! May the Lord bless you!
Thats why in prayer and meditation we are silent we silence our mind! Cause the way of communication of the Angels who are pure spirits with intellect and will is through silence! I remember the saying in the corridor of a college Catholic School it says Speech is silver Silence is Golden! K
Totally understand on a deeper level, we'll said.
That was an important, informative video, with important truths delivered. Its surely good to know how evil ,the fallen angels are n not to be led into sin by them.
Thank you and may the Lord bless you and keep you!
great production quality, great content, great host. Subscribed. Keep this up!
Waooo this video was everything i was hoping for and confirmed my knowledge about Angels of Gd and angels of satan.
Thanks you Fr for this gift of knowledge. Jesus we trust in You always Amen
Love vids which teach you more about the spiritual world
Simply brilliant - and a great gift to humanity...
Thank you!
Thank you for this video, it help me a lot in my studies.... God Bless.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you Fr.
You're welcome! Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. May the Lord bless you!
Another amazing video by Father Brent! Thanks, Father!
Cheers! Thanks for watching.
Best explanation of the multitude myriads heirrarchy in the form of love , wisdom , knowledge and power and justice
This is my favorite video. Fr. James Brent is great at explaining things. Is he going to make more videos eventually?
Well done! Strength to your arm!!!
Another great explainer video. Thanks!
I did never know hierarchy had two forms. Very interesting!
Thank you , Dominican.
I Love st.thomas Aquinas , I am reading the Summa theologica .
Your videos should prove invaluable help.
Glad to hear it. Happy reading!
wow! thank you so much for this, what a great video!
It's our joy! Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. May the Lord bless you!
I see the angel as patterns of being, like when someone is angry, he can be possessed by that anger, or by the god of war in another perspective.
The same is true with a positive spirit or mindset. What make you believe there is an existential reality beyond a pattern in our minds.
Bagus dan bermanfaat. Terimakasih ya
7:31 So, Uncle Ben of Spiderman was a Catholic Thomist who gave a very Thomistic idea to Peter.
@@ThomisticInstitute Thank you
@@bestill7698 Of course!
Thank you 🙏🏼 ✝️💙🕊️
great show!
Wonderful!
Please make another lecture like a part two using angel imagery of Caravaggio quality from Dominican church collections
Thank you.
Of course!
FANTASTIC EXPLANATIONS
Understanding philosophy with a kind of psychology.
I have the utmost respect for Father James but this video brings up an interesting problem related to the Old Testament: The Nephilim were created as a result of mating between angels and mortal women. Is there an explanation?
This video really enlightened my mind and perspective about the angelic realm.
Thanks for sharing!
Awesome thank you!
Good video
Where is the church? If not it, being people that work interdependently with each other. Doing the work together. In ways that are not harmful to each other, but producing the multiplication of love.
@thomistic institute
Does St. Aquinas comment on how the angels interact with us in Scripture? You explained the influential manner, but would the manner in which St. Raphael guided Tobias was of the first kind? Given a capacity to be contained therein?
Angel = Angle of light of God
So, Roberto Ferri Angel paintings are what we need to apply some Marie Alain Couturier style thought here or its too aniconic in spirit
@@ThomisticInstitute Yeah i have quite a few problems with materialism myself.
@@DawsonBennettDawsonTv Well, it's certainly problematic!
With great power comes great responsibility.
Thank you so much , I am a
Traditional Roman Catholic who never accepted being called an American Catholic.
Love the Dominican Rite Mass .
So good!
Pray That I Will Keep The Ten Commandments Read The Bible That The Lord Will Abundantly Bless My Home
But how do we perceive Angels? Are they the horrific chimeras who revealed themselves to Ezekiel? The beautiful hermaphrodites of Renaissance Annunciations?
Great!
Cheers!
I think that Angels laugh.
God laughs.
Thank you
Please pray for me father I'm a victim of demonic hex and curse please I feel it.. I don't know what to do I pray the rosary frequently but the enemy doesn't like it when I pray the saint Michael the archangel prayer and the blessed virgin Mary prayers I have difficulty praying them please inbox me what are methods that the catholic church use to cast out demons and to reverse hexing and curses please pray for me. God bless you.
I believe !
Vonier's Key to the Doctrine of the Eucharist (www.amazon.com/Key-Doctrine-Eucharist-Anscar-Vonier/dp/0615900356/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=vonier+doctrine+of+the+eucharist&qid=1581690802&sr=8-1) is the best. Journet wrote a book on The Mass: The Presence of the Sacrifice of the Cross (www.amazon.com/Mass-Presence-Sacrifice-Cross/dp/1587314991/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=journet+the+mass&qid=1581690819&s=books&sr=1-1).
