This season was painful but very necessary. The top teams today went through their doldrums 5 years ago. It’s cyclical. We were spoiled with 15 years of winning. We’ll be back.
Someone had linked a pre-TDL (no TBL 3rd, no Chicago 5th) draft simulator and I was very happy with my draft even though I know most of the players won't be available where I got them. 1 (1). Macklin Celebrini - 6'0 - 190 - C 16 (1). Zeev Buium - 6'0 - 183 - D 33 (2). Charlie Elick - 6'3 ¼ - 200 - D 49 (2). Alfons Freij - 6'0 ½ - 187 - D 122 (4). Daniil Ustinkov - 6'0 - 198 - D 145 (5). Ilya Nabokov - 6' 0" - 179 - Goalie 194 (7). Miroslav Satan - 6' 7" - 190 - Center 210 (7). Tyler Thorpe - 6' 4" - 209 - Right Wing With the 3rd round pick I would've tried to trade up (maybe throw a 7th or something in to go up from 84-86 where the TBL 3rd will be unless they reach the ECF in which case it's 94-97) to get Luke Misa (went 83rd) or Teddy Stiga (went 79th). If I couldn't trade up I'd probably grab Ryarson Leenders who went 88th. With the 5th (131) I'd grab Brodie Ziemer who went 137. Ilya has no relation to Nabby, but I was taking him 80% because of the name. Likewise for Miroslav Satan Jr (he's actually Miroslav Satan's son)...I have no real info that deep in the draft so I was picking relatively random names.
@@brando7266 Our second season we had 24 points (11-71-2, the 2 being ties) in 84 games. First season was 39 points (17-58-5 ties) in 80 games. 1995-96 we had the same 47 points in 82 games, though that season was arguably better than this one...there were 20 wins instead of 19 and they didn't have the opportunity for a shootout, so 7 of their games ended in ties and could've been turned into wins to get extra points. We had one other season with fewer than 47 points but it was a 48-game season with 42 points so that was much better by points percentage. I'd call this the third or fourth and I'd be open to debate if we just call it a tie for third.
i think that Will Smith, Quentin Musty coming to the big club next year depends on if we land the coveted #1 pick, that we been slackin' for all year! likely Macklin will go straight to the NHL, and with that so would Smith/Musty, otherwise... especially if we got Demidov (who has another year in Russia i think) there's not a rush to bring these guys over... and we'd be in the top 5 again next couple years where Michael Misa (2025) & Gavin McKenna (2026) - who's Connor Bedard's cousin? could be the prize....... Bystedt will probably be on the big club next year too (for atleast 9 games), i'm excited very much for Mattias Hävelid also!
JD, last year you did an episode where you ran a simulation and then picked which available players you liked. That was super fun. Can we do that again?
I expect he'll do that once the full draft order is set (after the playoffs end/lottery has been run). I used one of those simulators and it hasn't been updated since pre-TDL so it doesn't have our 3rd/5th from the Duke/Okhotiuk trades and has the Pens' pick at 16th which it CAN technically be but is incredibly unlikely (Detroit and St Louis would have to win the lotteries from 15th and 16th, each of which has a 1% chance of happening) and it has the Devils' pick at 49.
@@Staxxx23 right.. unless Detroit and the Blues jump the PENs by each winning the lottery, which would push the PENs pick to 16. However that would also lock us into 1st overall, because they can only jump a maximum of 10 spots

If we are realistic the Sharks will end up #3 in the lotto. Buium will totally still be available.

It was just amazing how bad the season/team was. After the 2nd blowout game I just had to laugh at the team
