Say what you will. This album rocks. It has that 90's production but Dave's vocals and lyrics are still Dave. I love the weird sounds, it gives the music an otherworldly feeling. I love it.
When this album came out in 1999 I was 17 I bought this album expecting another countdown peace sells or rust in peace type album. To my surprise it was nothing like any of those and I was mad! I mean so mad I played it once than again to make sure I heard it right and than I pulled the cd out and broke it in half and threw it over a fence I couldn't believe I was betrayed by my favorite band how could they have put out this piece of garbage after such great thrash classics?! But 20 years later now I'm 37 and I love this album I love it for its originally, production, musical variety, and creativity! If i could talk to my self at 17 I would tell my self give it a few more spins before you destroy it. Yeah you expected a thrash album but because it's Megadeth and not the same thrash you expect from them doesn't mean it's not a really good album if some other group put this out you would think it's awesome. Megadeth took a risk to make an album they felt like doing instead of what they knew was status quo. That's more metal than anything. and after getting into more progressive rock I really think this is an outstanding album. It took me 20 years to learn this lesson But in that time my musical tastes have expanded. I still love the thrash metal megadeth most of all but I unfairly judged this album. It is definitely a treasure amongst all of them.

This song is by far the coolest song on the album. As a budding shredder, I learned it on guitar and love jamming on this one for hours. It's a great balance between being badass, simple by Megadeth standards, and catchy as fuck.

This album is funny because you can completely understand why no one liked it well it came out but it’s hard to understand how it comes to sounding so much like more contemporary styles of metal that mix with lots of other styles and seem to get lots of approval
It is still my favourite album. I don't know how most popular are different songs and albums of many bands - for example my favourite album Iron Maiden is X-Factor and people don't know this.
The X Factor is in my top three Maiden albums. I'm also a huge Judas Priest guy, and their album Jugulator is one of my favorites. Like Iron Maiden, they had a replacement singer and put out a dark album that everyone hates because they're too loyal to the other guy and don't give the new singer a chance.
This original is way better than the re-mastered version. and the lyrics: "I am more violent than violence, more deadlier than death..." Goddamn, Dave! Fucking brilliant.

Okay, this is my first time hearing anything off Risk, and this track at least is pretty awesome. It has a 90's alternative feel, but it's still Megadeth. And this is heavy as fuck. Could do with some of Dave's trademark insane guitar solos though. I can see why this album would have alienated people, but I kinda like it.
