The great thing about God of war 1's story is that it is told like a Greek tragedy. It really shows that while the story is very simple, the writers gave it enough nuance to develop it's story and concepts to be inline with it's cultural and mythological roots
Man, that beginning part about playing the series throughout your "formative years" made me just come to a grim and kind of sad realization. My parents divorced when I was 12. And everyone on both sides of my family (including my parents) were trying to manipulate me into hating the opposing parent. As twisted as it is to admit, Kratos was the most stable adult in my life during that time. Thanks for the escape during a turbulent time in my life, Ghost Of Sparta. You were there when I had no one and I'm eternally grateful.
Same here man. My dad was abusing my mom and cheating on her and managed to manipulate her entire family into hating her basically exiling us from the state we lived in to get a new start. And while my mom was trying to figure everything out she wasn’t really there for my brothers and me… but kratos and ratchet and clank were. They helped me get through some rough times
I didn't expect a video from a small channel to be this high quality but i enjoyed every second of it.The editing, script, voice over everything was great and you are very underrated.Earned a sub
It’s not that it’s not a good or even deep story. It’s that 2018 was a) a new direction and b) a more multifaceted and dynamic version of Kratos. In my opinion.
The Greek Saga really feels like like something from the mythology. I remember reading a bunch of Greek Mythology in 2012 at my first internship during lunch breaks. Those stories are pretty insane and I think the games are tame in comparison.
I was also introduced to the series because of my uncle. When I saw the game for the first time I was spending the weekend at my grandma’s house and he was over there at that time and I remember he was in the living room plugging in his PS2 getting ready to play and me being a 9 year old loving video games I was excited to watch, next thing I knew I was watching him solve puzzles and hack and slash his way through monsters and the Greek pantheon(I was really into Greek mythology at that time too so that alone had me hooked). And I sat there next to him on the couch watching him play the game from sundown to sunrise the next day while I read the booklet that came with the game. I was hooked ever since.
Just a small point about GoW 2018: the ice beam isn't the superior skill. Stats are affected by the equipment and depending on that runic attack's efficiency may vary. Depending on the difficulty level as well, being locked in place for too long night be less advantageous than stagger abilities. It's a give and take!
Man, its really nice to hear from another old school God of War fan, who gives the original saga the love it deserves. Really great video, can't wait to hear your thoughts on God of War Ragnarok!
The Kraken is featured in God Of War 2 simply as a nod to Ray Harryhausen's work on Clash Of The Titans along with Perseus for added measure. Jason and the skeleton legions are also present as a nod to Jason And The Argonauts, more stop motion by Harryhausen.
This video… it’s amazing! The quality is amazing, the ability to read the story as well as you, the growth from playing a game as a child to adult, everything is perfect in this video. It’s so in depth and that’s rare from even the big channels, but you, even while being one of the smaller channels on UA-cam, you’ve made something truly wonderful. Better than most of the BIG channels. You deserve way more attention and subscribers than what you have right now. If you keep this up, you’ll be one of the big dogs on this platform, I can already tell. Great content man, keep this up!
GOW 2 will always be the best to me, being able to use the blade of Olympus as an actual weapon and not during a rage is amazing and the soundtrack and absolutely amazing
I think this was probably one of the best videos I've ever watched, I love god of war and I love people explaining in great detail about stories, theories, documentaries etc. So this was like the perfect mix thank you for putting in so much effort it really paid off hope you have a wonderful day
I personally have never played a GOW Game I’m seen stuff about it and almost started to play GOW 2018 but this video that I’ve watched (up to the end of GOW 3 story) has 1000000% gripped me and I’m honestly excited to eventually when I finish my games I’m playing to play this franchise enjoy the story and experience the things you talked about but also the other things like the dialogue or super in depth story (like literally everything about each story) of each game and enjoy the combat for myself thanks Mayorhairbear for gripping me on GOW
Great to see the whole project together, congrats! Also I appreciated that you kept the chronological order and ranked them at the end, the usual ranking videos in random order are much more confusing than a good old retrospective.
Dude really was like "can you help me do the quick time event during the Zeus boss fight? You gotta play the whole game to understand the context though..."
I think this is the longest youtube video I have ever watched, and it was amazing! Thank you for all the hard work making this! I don't have any of my original consoles anymore but I think it's time to boot up the emulator and replay this series!
This is incredible! I mean, technically I've seen it all before, but the way it flows as one large piece of content is awesome 👌 Great work, bro... really appreciate it
When you said what you thought about 2018 initially from all the reviews dumbing down the other games, and making you hate the new game in the series was exactly how I felt since it is irritating thinking that their's an actual good story now when if it wasn't for the past games this story wouldn't have happened, amazing video
Thank you mate, I'm glad you enjoyed the video and you're spot on, 2018 doesn't exist or have the success it achieved without the rest of the series. Downplaying that is just insulting
Man I can’t believe the people who’ve been downplaying the GoW story all because of the 2018 game, I’ve only played the main 3 GoW games along with the 2018 game but the story has always been investing since the start and although I love Dad of Boy (it’s one of, if not, my favorite games) the other games are fan-fucking-tastic. People who speak like 2018’s GoW is when kratos got a character other then angry and vengeance hungry Spartan are the same people who haven’t played any other GoW game and I’m finally glad to see somebody say something about it. Anyways this was my first video of yours I’ve watched, and I enjoyed it a lot. I know this is an old video by now but I can’t wait to watch more of your content
Thank you so much mate, glad you enjoyed the video and I hope you enjoy some more! You hit the nail on the head, people who downplay the OG trilogy's story simply didn't play them
A shame you couldn't stick it out till the final Valkyrie, I think it's the best boss battle in the entire series. And also, I absolutely loved this video. Great job!
Played GOW at 10 years old. Yeah sounds pretty close to my contact with the series. Fun fact, GOW 2 is by far the game I played the most on my ps2, mostly on the very easy difficulty but still, I just loved that game, made full playthrougs almost all the time.
Best PS2 game hands down. I also played every difficulty but was never able to complete titan mode because of that damn translator part😅 i was never able to protect him
After seeing the story of Ragnarok, its bittersweet to know they've stated it would be the final chapter of Kratos' story. Growing up playing these games from the first time I booted GoW in 2006, all the way until now, has been a journey. I remember feeling this same thing at the end of God of War 3, thinking that THAT would be the end, little did I know it'd go so much further and end the way it did now. My father hardly ever plays video games, but I vividly remember watching him play all the God of Wars for himself as I grew up, and the series will always hold a place in my heart for that alone.
@@ReverendLeRoux he's more than likely gonna take a backseat to Atreus in the next game (if they do another one) and tbh, I think that's best. Let Kratos lie as he is, he's been develoled to the point where you can't really flesh him out anymore. His son on the other hand could absolutely be taken in any direction they want, he's almost a blank canvas.
@@Noided88815 I love Atreus, but it really wouldn't be a god of war game without Kratos. But I think it's time to let him rest, he's had enough of dealing with shitty gods. I don't think i'd be interested in a "loki" game. But to each their own.
I think this is the first UA-cam channel to entirely get Kratos’ character, people mostly get something right but then they get a few key things wrong, you didn’t, absolutely smashing job mate Edit: for GOW 3 I have a way to make every weapon useful, which is to make sure your upgrading the blades of Exile, and Bow once only before obtaining the blades, it seems weird but it helps with the massive power Creep of the blades of hades and I’d say that’s when you really get to open up what you wanna level up first, also if you haven’t already take a few right after that to gather all the souls of the underworld before you come back, makes it easier to worry about speeding through if your not stopping for spell potential
@@MayorHairBear as much as I appreciate it I’m more happy YOU enjoy it, I’d rather someone make content that they wanna that I might happen to like over people who just break their own spirits doing stuff they don’t want to, so I say it’s an amazing video on more levels then I first thought
In Greek Mythology, the kraken is a sea creature and has octopus like features and is referred to as Scylla. There are also other sea monsters that can be found in Greek Mythology. In Greek Mythology, the Kraken (Scylla) takes the form of a giant octopus.
This is a massive video! i love the original GOW games and as much as i love the franchise in its current state, i still miss that grand scale the original games had. These were truly epics and 2018 and Ragnarok are missing that imo. But there isnt a God of War game i hate, its probably my favorite gaming franchise. Its incredible
Yeah this was a massive project, took me about 6 months to get through and finish! I agree, I don't hate any of the games. I prefer some over others but I enjoy them all. One of my favourite series!
Abyss watchers really? Have you even fought midir? Or orphan of kos? Shit how bout isshin ashina? Those guys are in a league the watchers wish they were in.
@@corvoriever539 i dont play much Souls games or difficult games in general, so yes really the Abyss Watchers. The previous bossfights were piss easy compared to them and Pontiff.
As an og god of war fan your list is literally my list! I’m so glad you didn’t put god of war 4 higher then the other ones! Also god of war 3 is my all time favorite too, when Kratos gets flung of mount Olympus by gia; you feel his betrayal and when his life flashed before his eyes, the scenery there is just bloody brilliant! And how he has to go into hades starting from nothing
Yea yea yea of course his list is "literally yours.. Wow whatta a kissing beta. Out of all the god of wars you DO NOT have the same game by game ranked. You never even thought about ranking every game 1by1 you dont have no channel and no one cares about your list or opinions. If there were 3 games in the series that would be different but there are so many gow you don't have to copy to look cool. Be yourself chamillion boy. Ok I'm gone make.sure you grow a backbone
What a fantastic series! OG GoW are some of my favorite games, and like you I was very turned by how people felt the need to disrespect the originals to prop up the new one. I don't think the new one is bad, but imo it doesn't hold a candle to 2 and 3. Nobody cares, but here's my ranking anyway: 2,3,4,Ghost,1,Chain, last and least Ascension.
i agree completely, I hate how so many people say the old games are garbage when the new ones strip a great deal of mechanics and designs from the new one. Nothing is wrong with change But people prop of the story as the greatest thing ever when it really isnt Kratos has a kid thats alive now and Shows his nurture side like he Did Partially in 3 with pandora and In Chains of Olympus with his Actual Daughter Calliope. it makes little sense to me considering Some people even said they just hate the hack and slash of the old games But still like the Hack and slash of this Game. a comparison Like saying you hate Devil may cry but like a game like warframes Melee combat. As far as story goes in the Dev documentaries of the original games the Devs Explicitly say that Gameplay and puzzles are the main focus and Bigger scope being better then finding reasons/ scenarios to why kratos would be or go there while also trying to tie it in with Greek mythology. The focus of the New gow games is FAR more story driven than gameplay focus. They shifted perspective but i dont think its right to say Just because they shifted focus to something others prefer (story over advanced type of gameplay mechanics) that the old games suck or are garbage. Another example being souls like games environmental story telling and Horizon zero dawn/ forbidden west telling you everything thats going on point being Diff game Diff Focus.
"but imo it doesn't hold a candle to 2 and 3., what a mesmorizing, incredible, insanely bullshit i just read. Jesus Christ. Even though God of War 3 is my favorite, and i respect everyone putting higher as better game, i have no doubt whatsoever that the God of War 4 is by far the best game of the series. The story is much more richer, the characters due to the fact that the game is bigger have better development, you can do more things into the game and etc. Saying that doesnt hold a candle is a lie, is gaming equivalent to terraplanism and is bizarrely stupid.
And only in rare situations games from older generations will be better than the newer ones due to the fact that the most recent ones have better tecnology which can make virtually everything better. Graphics, story, ambientation, characters, and etc.
@@diogogarcez9519 Gameplay wise and even scope wise, it doesn't hold a candle to 2 or 3. They pushed the consoles they were on to their limits while giving us fast paced fights and insane bosses. You fight the same troll boss like 8 times in 2018. That's lame, no matter how you look at it. Sure, stories better, but you're movement has been drastically worsened and that is undeniable. So, with bosses, combat and movement being worse, the only thing 2018 excells in is story. Look, I'm not one to say "Gameplay is the only thing that matters", but when the only improvement from the previous entries are the story and graphics... that's kinda disappointing. Like, really, how many people even replay 2018 compared to the originals? I'd not imagine a whole lot.
@@Miriam_J_ Not only story is better. The characters are way better developed. What is the story behind Helios in GOW3 other than protect Zeus? Behind Poseidon? Hercules and Cronos are more well written. And i can count on my fingers the bosses in the entire trilogy that match the three fights between Baldur and Kratos. You have also way better ambientation, better graphics, a whole more quantity of things to do within the game.
Man, you talking about playing the first game when you were 8 years old made me realize just how old I really was. I think I was 22 when the first game came out
I've never seen any of your videos, but when I saw that this is 3.5 hrs long. I have to like it and I will eventually watch the whole thing. Also, subscribed
I just stumbled upon this video and have only made it to the God of War 3 part so far, but I just want to say you've done a tremendous job with the videos so far. You verbalize every aspect of the game, the goods and the negatives extremely well which leaves me knowing exactly what you needed to say, also you do one hell of a job with the intros, usually I'm like "aaah get to the good part already" but you did a great job. Subbed to your channel and I'm going to be watching many videos on it, I really like your clarity when you speak, your arguments are always well presented and at no point was this video boring. Very good video so far!
I expect this quality video to be from someone with over 300k subs, but this is so good that I'm gonna give you the highest honor I can bestow, turning of the notification bell
Well, this is a bittersweet moment. One chapter on this fantastic channel (which I really wish I'd discovered earlier) comes to a close, but a new chapter begins. And that next chapter is DARKSIDERS AND LORDS OF SHADOW LET'S GOOOOOOOOO-- *ahem* Excuse me. Having just finished a God of War series binge myself when your first God of War retrospective came out, I was amazed at the quality of the video and how much passion and fondness you had for the game despite some of its shortcomings, and the more this video series went on, I was always excited to see the next one. Honestly, these videos gave me a kind of nostalgia trip too lol, and the quality of the videos itself combined with the sheer love you have for this series really helped convince me to put my backlog on hold (again) and boot up some of these games again. It's been a blast, and I really hope these vids get the views and praise they deserve, and (in case you can't tell) I can't wait for what comes next!
Far far too kind mate but thank you, I truly do appreciate it! Another chapter of retrospectives closed but plenty more chapters to begin. I did have an absolute blast revisiting this series though and I'm glad that came through in these videos and obviously, highly recommend you check some of the series out! Excited to get stuck into Darksiders but first I need to talk about Halo Infinite and also my experience with the Demon's Souls Remake which I'm hoping at least one of those videos will be out before the end of 2021
God of War 2 was my God of War 1. I remember watching my uncle playing it while I took a break from my school work (5th grade). (I also remember looking at one puzzle & helping out) I didn't play it until I my pre-teen/teenage years, but 2020 has def made this game significant since I lost my uncle during the lockdown.
I’m getting a feeling watching the subtitles that they were all done manually. Is that true? And if so, wow that is incredible dedication and I greatly appreciate as I have to watch at low volume most the time. This is a great video from a shockingly small channel. Well done
Yeah they're all manual subtitles mate but honestly it really isn't that difficult. All it is, is taking the script, putting it in a .txt file, uploading that into the video and UA-cam aligns it all for you. Don't know why more creators don't do it it's infinitely better than the auto generated stuff. Really glad you enjoyed the review though mate!
THANK YOU. Finally found someone who agrees that God of War 3 was the best in the series. This game was war from beginning to the end. Bosses are insane and epic. The ending was very satisfying. But the #1 highlight of this game has to be the soundtrack, no other game, not even the upcoming Ragnarok will top the masterpiece of a soundtrack that Gow 3 has.
@@MayorHairBear Bear McReary is good don't get me wrong. But man, Cris Velasco from the greek Gow games was in a league of his own. Can't help but imagine what kinda soundtrack we would've had if they had decided to keep him for the norse series.
my friend was playing god of war 4 on PS4, and he was saying i should play the game, i started it and i like it, but i didn't want to finish 4 before the rest, so one day i was buying digital games for my PS3 and got god of war, and it came with a free copy of god of war 1 and 2 for the vita. i downloaded it onto my vita and i am playing through God Of War 1 now.
I found this video the day before the release of GoW: Ragnarok and this was a great way to recap/revisit/relive the history of GoW before Ragnarok begins
I loved doing the side content for gow 2018 because i absolutely fell in love with the combat, it filled that dark souls devil may cry side of my brain and it just always hit the fun zone for me, not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but still incredibly fuckin fun regardless
On the first God of war for having no enemies were you actually collect Pandora's box I always thought of it as they didn't think no one would make it to that far with all those puzzles
I think that makes sense and I never really questioned it if I'm honest until watching content for the development section where I found out there was cut content for Pandora's Box!
I really enjoy how you summarise your arguments before going in depth with it all. This was all so brilliantly presented and I really loved listening to this ❤ good work!!
3:17:50 You can block all of the revenants travelling attacks with the shield. Even if your back is turned to the revenant the "spidey sense" arrows as you put it tell you when she's sending u the projectile and thus you can press the down arrow on ur d-pad to turn towards the projectile and block it. What I mean is, yes you CAN constantly avoid all the attacks of the revenant.
My issue with the revenants in GOW 2018, or most enemies in general is a lot of their ranged attacks travel along the ground, giving me the impression they can't be blocked. I instinctively want to jump over them like the old games, but alas there's no jump button.
i like the concept of hercules as an antagonist, and ur general super strong protogonist as an antagonist in general. ur familiar w how strong theyre supposed to be so it makes it so intimidating in a badass way
Recently went back to replay the older god of war 1 because I remember the game so fondly in my child hood…what I didn’t remember is how frustrating it was towards the end of the game LMFAOOOO
@@MayorHairBear dude the balance beam sections, spike climbing wall, & that part where you have to move the rock in time before spikes come out can go to hell lol
Great video , enjoyed it a lot . Even tho I enjoyed all 7 games my list would be having beaten them all on both hard and very hard : 7 - Chains of Olympus 6- Ascension 5- Ghost of Sparta 4- God of War 1 3-God of War 3 2-God of War 2018 1-God of War 2
Had this randomly recommened to me and decided to watch it since i’ve only been into the two newest reboot games. I dont personally think i’ll ever play the old ones as the gameplay type doesnt hook me, but hearing about the story and everything that came before the games i know was really great. Very very rare that i actually watch a nearly 4 hour video
Stoked you enjoyed the video mate! Yeah the background music is a tricky one. There is music in the background on all my videos but it's subtle. Some videos will be more noticeable it just depends how distracting I find them while editing as I'm personally someone who finds it hard to focus on what people are saying with too much background noise.
I recently got into gow this year, i've played all main games including Ragnarok. 2018 and Ragnarok are better written. But the original trilogy is so hype and unique. With 3 being my favorite too and the og trilogy is easier to get into and play. I think what the new gow lacks is extreme violence and mayhem, it just feels so tame. Overall, despite the quality of the norse games, I prefer the greek ones. And I too dislike people saying gow 1 story isn't really deep, it's literally about a broken man losing the last of his humanity. Btw this is an amazing video.
Thank you I appreciate that! Glad you finally experienced this series mate and you're spot on, people who say it has no story clearly just didn't play it.
@@MayorHairBear Sorry I edited, I just wanted to get more of my opinions out. I hate how people ignore the og trilogy and just play the new ones. Santa Monica should really remaster the 1 and 2 game, for the current generation.
What an ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC video! I loved all your points. When it comes to this series, It stayed in my head and never left once I played GOW 2 for the first time. ( yeah I started with 2 ) GOW 2018 is a Bloody awesome game that I enjoy. I'm someone who enjoys the heck out of it, But I Still Love the Classics. So your rankings, I'd say for me I'll put GOW 4 above GOW 2. But No.1 HAS to be GOW 3. I played GOW 3 more than any other in the series. I always Saved right B4 boss fights just so I could Play them repeatedly Over. And over. And over. And over. Then one more time. You got a new Sub 👍
I literally got a playstation as a kid to play GoW3. The visuals and surroundings absolutely blew my brains out, I'm happy more people feel like GoW3 is the best
Amazing video, I watched every single GOW review video by you and your ranking which I agree. My personal top would be: 7. God of War Ascension 6. God of War Chains of Olympus 5. God of War Ghost of Sparta 4. God of War (2018) 3. God of War (2005) 2. God of War III 1. God of War II
Thank you mate, I'm glad you enjoyed this behemoth of a series! God of War 2 and 3 are so close, I think my nostalgia for 3 just tops my memories of 2 but both are incredible!
I was ready to hate on your review of gow4 as it's my favorite game, but your criticisms are very well found and I agree. There could be better changes for the game but overall it's a great experience
That's awesome to hear mate, I completely understand that gut reaction but I'm glad you stuck it through! Every game has its issues and whilst I may not love the game like many others do you're spot on, it's a great experience
talking about the spidey sense in GoW 2018, i think it's way better turning that off and learning to listen to atreus' callouts of attacking enemies, that way you're not limiting your view on the arrows and it's easier to register an auditory cue and take appropriate action
I do agree but I think for it to work a bit more seamlessly the camera needs to be a bit further back to allow for more visibility. Like the Arkham series
I’ve played and finished every god of war game just finished Ragnarok yesterday. How I would rank them personally. 1. God of war 3 - still my favourite game in the series and favourite game of all time. I agree with the point that the other games have better stories but 3 just felt better in every other way. 2. God of war Ragnarok - Ragnarok has the best story in the series in my opinion with the 2018 gow I balanced the side missions along with the story but I couldn’t with Ragnarok I was so invested in what would happen next and the development of Kratos and all the other characters. I will admit the combat sections got a little repetitive after a while it felt like there was too many fight sections and less time to just take in an area for it beauty. 3. God of war 2 - it was close to choose between Ragnarok and 2 for the story. But I will say that I liked the ending of 2 better it was the most epic cliffhanger ever I’ve ever seen in a game. 2 is almost a perfect game the only real complaint I have about it is the powers there the only one I used was the wrath of Atlas I think that’s what it’s called the rest of the powers just felt kinda useless to me tbh. Other than that the game is amazing. 4. God of war (2018) - This game surprised everyone I believe. They took such a huge risk completely changing everything we know about god of war and they absolutely nailed it. The story was great, combat was great and the visuals and soundtrack were breathtaking. The only complaints I have are the enemy types, bosses excluding both Baldur fights and the Valkyries and a few minor pacing issues. 5. God of war 1 - the game that started it all. I agree with your point about some parts of the game being outdated especially the camera the camera was terrible for traversing and the wall climbing as well. But other than that the boss fights were amazing the story is my 3rd favourite in the series. The final boss fight with ares is is my top 5 boss fights ever. 6. God of war Ghost of Sparta - For a PSP game this really took me by surprise part of the game that makes it better than chains of Olympus and accession is the ending the fight with Thanatos and buying Deimos was so hard to sit through but I loved every miniature of the story of GOS the combat was good and for a psp game the visuals were pretty good. 7. God of war Chains of Olympus - I would say COO is only slightly worse than GOS but it’s still a great game either way I agree with parts of the story being forgettable but the stuff with Kratos daughter was brutal. 8. God of war Accession - while not a bad game it’s not amazing it’s still good I don’t not like the game I would go back and play it every now and again. I think the thing that lets this game go is the combat it felt very different and d not in a good way. The boss fights are pretty good however. There’s my ranking of the GOW series :)
Quick answer to anyone yes the original/first few games of kratos life does actually still hold up and its worth playing especially if you love God of war 4 and God of war ragnarok.
As someone who played every main title God of War, I didn't become a fan til 2018's reboot. I'm sorry but that reboot is far better than the others with God of War 2 maybe being tied mainly cause of the story itself
The great thing about God of war 1's story is that it is told like a Greek tragedy. It really shows that while the story is very simple, the writers gave it enough nuance to develop it's story and concepts to be inline with it's cultural and mythological roots
That's a great point I'd not really thought of but is 100% accurate!

Great video and I am in full agreement with your ranking, God of War 3 was one of those games that I played over and over again because it was so good
God of War 3 is just incredible!
Thank you so much mate, working on the Ragnarok script as we speak!
Been binging your vids. You deserve so much more recognition. Keep up the good work bro, love all the content you make
You're far too kind mate but thank you!
The Kraken is featured in God Of War 2 simply as a nod to Ray Harryhausen's work on Clash Of The Titans along with Perseus for added measure. Jason and the skeleton legions are also present as a nod to Jason And The Argonauts, more stop motion by Harryhausen.
Yeah that’s actually not the Kraken. It may say it is but the Kraken is Norse. That is Cetus. He was defeated by Perseus in the myths.
@@excaliburknives3572 Right. But in the film the monster is called the Kraken. However correct or incorrect.
Your reviews are seriously the best video game reviews on UA-cam. You should have 50 million subs.
Thank you so much mate, I really do appreciate it 🙏
This video… it’s amazing!
Thank you so much mate, really glad to hear you enjoyed the video so much!
GOW 2 will always be the best to me, being able to use the blade of Olympus as an actual weapon and not during a rage is amazing and the soundtrack and absolutely amazing
Same I'm currently replaying it on my phone so when I am work I get about 30mins to play on the go
Also the locations look really iconic like the Steeds of Time and the Bog of the Forgotten
Facts though
Also idk what it was but Kratos's voice acting was so much more thunderous and crisp in gow2
2 is great but I think 3 is best followed by 2
After finishing god of war ragnarok then finding this video I can say that Kratos really deserves the ending he got in ragnarok.
I think this was probably one of the best videos I've ever watched, I love god of war and I love people explaining in great detail about stories, theories, documentaries etc. So this was like the perfect mix thank you for putting in so much effort it really paid off hope you have a wonderful day
Thank you so much mate, I'm really glad you enjoyed it!
Oh no, the videos had to stay in chronological order especially for me because I was usually referencing the game prior a lot of the time! 😂
God of War 3 is so iconic to me because you're literally hunting down all of the gods and finishing them off.
God of War 3 is a masterpiece!
Dude really was like "can you help me do the quick time event during the Zeus boss fight? You gotta play the whole game to understand the context though..."
I needed the full experience to be able to conquer such a task 😂
I think this is the longest youtube video I have ever watched, and it was amazing! Thank you for all the hard work making this! I don't have any of my original consoles anymore but I think it's time to boot up the emulator and replay this series!
That's awesome to hear mate, thank you for watching and enjoy revisiting this series yourself it's great fun!
Holy hell when I looked for a GoW review and clicked on this video I was expecting a 30 mins review at most, **prepares coffee**
Nah nah, none of that 😂 Get that coffee, grab a snack and enjoy almost 4 hours of God of War goodness!
This is incredible! I mean, technically I've seen it all before, but the way it flows as one large piece of content is awesome 👌
Great work, bro... really appreciate it
Thank you so much mate, I'm so glad the video flows nicely despite originally being seperate videos! Appreciate you mate 🙏
I figured most of the reviewers didn't give the original games a chance for whatever reasons.
Great job!
I've heard its an incredible battle, I just couldn't stick with it unfortunately 😕 Glad you enjoyed the video mate, thank you! 🙌
Yea best battle I 100% God of War 2018 like 6 times you should go back and fight every valkyrie
@@peterock42 not worth it, i did it and it's just boring... id rather replay gow 3 any day 😂

GOW 2018 proved these myths coexist and travel between every realm is very much possible. So I can suspend my disbelief for the kraken.
In retrospect I agree
You've got to be one of the most underrated content creators...
Thank you mate 🙏
Played GOW at 10 years old.
Yeah sounds pretty close to my contact with the series. Fun fact, GOW 2 is by far the game I played the most on my ps2, mostly on the very easy difficulty but still, I just loved that game, made full playthrougs almost all the time.
Best PS2 game hands down. I also played every difficulty but was never able to complete titan mode because of that damn translator part😅 i was never able to protect him
it is very clear from this video that you have passion for the games and your channel
Nearly 4 hours of God of War, my man! What a beast of a video
It is an absolute behemoth!
Even after ragnarok gow 3 stays at the pinnacle of the series
Absolutely, 3 just is on a different level!
Actually, they said it'd be the final chapter of the norse saga, not kratos story, unless there's been a new quote that I didn't see.
Final chapter of the Norse pantheon, not Kratos's story.
To Tack on to the two people below, I don't think there's many places you can take Kratos story from where it is in Ragnarok.
Lending God of War to his 8 years old nephew....your uncle is a cool dude.
He is a cool dude 😂
40:40 Kraken is found also in Greek mythology actually.. It was born from the titans Oceanus and Ceto and it was killed by Perseus
Yeah that was my bad, completely spaced on Perseus' story!
Amazing video, really glad someone gave this series the love it deserves!
Glad you enjoyed the video mate, love this series!
I think this is the first UA-cam channel to entirely get Kratos’ character, people mostly get something right but then they get a few key things wrong, you didn’t, absolutely smashing job mate
Edit: for GOW 3 I have a way to make every weapon useful, which is to make sure your upgrading the blades of Exile, and Bow once only before obtaining the blades, it seems weird but it helps with the massive power Creep of the blades of hades and I’d say that’s when you really get to open up what you wanna level up first, also if you haven’t already take a few right after that to gather all the souls of the underworld before you come back, makes it easier to worry about speeding through if your not stopping for spell potential
Thank you mate, I tried really hard to make sure one of my favourite characters in gaming got the justice he deserved. Glad you enjoyed it!
@@MayorHairBear as much as I appreciate it I’m more happy YOU enjoy it, I’d rather someone make content that they wanna that I might happen to like over people who just break their own spirits doing stuff they don’t want to, so I say it’s an amazing video on more levels then I first thought
I'm not a fan of long videos but this was worth it every hour. Best GOW analysis so far
Thank you mate, I'm glad you enjoyed them! If you ever want to rewatch them I do have single videos on each game as well 🙌
So why aren't you a fan of long videos? Is it because of your short attention span?
In Greek Mythology, the kraken is a sea creature and has octopus like features and is referred to as Scylla. There are also other sea monsters that can be found in Greek Mythology. In Greek Mythology, the Kraken (Scylla) takes the form of a giant octopus.
I’d say this is EXACTLY how I’d rank my tier list. Very well done video.
Thank you mate, glad you enjoyed it 🙏
@@MayorHairBear Of course, Man. Absolutely loved it. Lots of passion put into this and it was worth every second of watching. 👍
These Valkyrie fights, especially Sigrun, was probably the hardest fight in a game ive played since The Abyss Watchers from Darksouls 3

Your uncle is a legend for letting you play this game.
Great minds think alike my friend! GOW 3 is just too damn good
Yea yea yea of course his list is "literally yours..
@@diogogarcez9519
Gameplay wise and even scope wise, it doesn't hold a candle to 2 or 3.

Well, this is a bittersweet moment. One chapter on this fantastic channel (which I really wish I'd discovered earlier) comes to a close, but a new chapter begins. And that next chapter is DARKSIDERS AND LORDS OF SHADOW LET'S GOOOOOOOOO--
*ahem* Excuse me.
Excited to get stuck into Darksiders but first I need to talk about Halo Infinite and also my experience with the Demon's Souls Remake which I'm hoping at least one of those videos will be out before the end of 2021
Resistance: Retribution was such a hidden gem. The story kept the theme of the original, the only one that did.
God of War 2 was my God of War 1. I remember watching my uncle playing it while I took a break from my school work (5th grade). (I also remember looking at one puzzle & helping out)
I didn't play it until I my pre-teen/teenage years, but 2020 has def made this game significant since I lost my uncle during the lockdown.
i’m watching this after playing ragnarok, and it’s amazing how high quality this video is for how small your channel is
I’m getting a feeling watching the subtitles that they were all done manually.

I mean how do you top GOW 3, it's just too good!

On the first God of war for having no enemies were you actually collect Pandora's box I always thought of it as they didn't think no one would make it to that far with all those puzzles
I think that makes sense and I never really questioned it if I'm honest until watching content for the development section where I found out there was cut content for Pandora's Box!

Plus you can keep stunning them for longer if u keep shooting ur arrows in a rhytm after ur initial stun shot.

Great video recommended by UA-cam! Hope you can get more views for this great video
I'm happy to hear you enjoyed the video mate!
talking about the spidey sense in GoW 2018, i think it's way better turning that off and learning to listen to atreus' callouts of attacking enemies, that way you're not limiting your view on the arrows and it's easier to register an auditory cue and take appropriate action
Awesome video definitely enjoyed it from start to finish 😎 big god of war fan also
Glad you enjoyed the video mate!
Quick answer to anyone yes the original/first few games of kratos life does actually still hold up and its worth playing especially if you love God of war 4 and God of war ragnarok.
Ay mate, don't spoil the video 😂
cliche to say, but GOW 3 is still jaw droppingly beautiful. Just a phenomenal achievement
It really is stunning to this day, how they got this running on the PS3 I have no clue!
What I learned from this videos comment section is that Sony can thank Uncles for introducing people to God of War.
1000% 😂
The og god of war will always be the best for me. Learning greek mythology in school and rushing home to see it on god of war.
10/10 review!! Perfect video to watch before playing Ragnarok
Thank you mate, glad you enjoyed it!
As someone who played every main title God of War, I didn't become a fan til 2018's reboot. I'm sorry but that reboot is far better than the others with God of War 2 maybe being tied mainly cause of the story itself
