This movie is the perfect example of why studio meddling exists. Giving a director "Full creative freedom" is how you get iconic characters raped by prison guards then shanked to death moments later. If Joker was Wonder Woman there'd be riots in the streets.
I enjoyed the first one. It wasn't groundbreaking or anything but it was cool to see a Scorsese-influenced character study about one of the greatest villains played by one of the greatest actors. Folie a Deux wasn't for me (or anyone apparently). Conceptually I can see how it's a natural progression since Joaquin would dance every time he killed someone in the first one. Going full blown musical is way overkill though. Did anyone really want to see Joker mumble sing a Stevie Wonder song? Maybe it would've worked on broadway or if they repurposed it as an art installation but as a form of cinematic entertainment... they horribly missed the mark... seems intentional though.
@@joeyhyland I heard a theory about how Harley is meant to represent the studio and Joker is Phillips. That would make sense with how Harley was trying to use him as a puppet and he refused. It would also mean that this was never made with the intention of alienating comic book fans - they’re just collateral in a bout between director and studio 🤔
I disagree. I loved how the music expressed Joker's feelings. I think this film was brilliant. This was not a musical, it was a man feeling music in his. soul. Music does not have to move a narrative.... see more musicals.
