Didn’t get to join live but enjoyed watching later! Here’s a tip I’ve found to be generally true for new players - Give it a good honest try for three weeks. Try to practice every day for about an hour for at least three weeks. At the end of that time, you will likely not be struggling so much to make the chords and will be to the point of making music which is fun and rewarding and will keep you going from that point forward!!

You have no B string to contend with.. and just like Jerry said ...it's literally the same position all the neck .. so the first thing you're going to experience once you start getting the hang of it will be all the freedom the mandolin gives you over the guitar...
So I'm betting that you already being a guitar picker It will probably come pretty quick for you ..
Only problem is , it's gonna be hard to putting it down 😂

@@tomculhane6648 you can learn on a cheap mandolin... but it does need to be setup good so it can play fairly easy.. Again....like Jerry said , if you can afford a decent one from a reputable shop where they set them up before they sell them.. that's even better..550 will get you a real decent Eastman A model. And they can go on sale for cheaper....
Or if you know a luthier that can setup the one you have so you can get to practicing right away.. either way you're gonna enjoy the mandolin as soon as you get the basics..
BTW my first mandolin was an old borrowed 12 fret Kay ...horrible playing but it got me going excited.. someone handed it to me at a jam , showed me some 2 finger chords 5 mins later I'm hooked and I played it all night ..lol

Beginners like me might be better off using a cheaper pick so we can watch the wear. 😃😃
