I can't stop watching this...The melancholic tone of the score fits so perfectly with the unfulfilled future of Fleabag and the Priest. There are a couple of fan vids of them that are put to pop songs, and it just DOES NOT WORK. This video really manages to capture both the elated magic of their connection and the sense of complete, devastating heartbreak that results from it. Thank you for creating it!
I believe that the priest was written as a parallel to Martin. They both behave in the same way, are both pushy, rude, controlling boorish alcoholics but because the priest is sexy and Martin isn't, we like the priest whereas Martin is seen as a villain.
I disagree completely. In my opinion he is written to be the perfect match to Fleabag: fucked up childhood and family, lonely af, oversharer, drinks too much, in search of meaning and purpose, with many casual sex partners in his past. They are the 2 sides of the same coin, with 2 different way of dealing with the same wounds. That’s why it’s so tragic. She found the perfect man who doesn’t run from her neuroses because he shares and understands them, a guy who sees right through her bullshit, down to her talking to her audience. And he loves her just the way she is, and she loves him too. It’s just sooooooo saaaaad!!!!!
Rebecca Elliott I thought about something the other day that made me even more sad : the audience is to Fleabag what god is to the hot priest. A friend they can confide in, who is always there for them because otherwise they would be lonely af. Ahhhhhh! I am a 27 years old grown ass women with a full time job! Why do I randomly think about a show I watched weeks ago and make myself sad again!
@@sakaya9878 That is such an observant and powerful thought. By being with Fleabag, it would require The Priest to give up that dialogue with himself (and God, as such) that has afforded him the only ability to cope with his past that he has ever found. His relationship with God is a mirroring of how Fleabag's Audience has allowed her the perspective to observe and engage with her own actions outside of her overwhelming grief and guilt over the tragedy that they have (sometimes) caused. For either of them to give up this piece of sanity, this hard won objectivity on which they rely for guidance through their subjective worlds, would be to give up their mechanism for finding meaning in life.
