Half the houses on their street have roof conversions. That’s where their daughter’s rooms should’ve been. The rooms would be smaller, but they’d have fresh air & sunlight unlike the basement. I really hope it’s not too late to change it and the family get a nice home after all their struggles
I think it does fit. It has to be something very different as all the rest is so in keeping. A shame the lower part couldn’t be a brick wall as intended.
I'd love to see it all finished. From an aesthetics point of view, the house doesn't fit the decor of the street at all. It's not in keeping with the lovely Edwardian homes and if I was a resident of the street I would not be at all happy to see this building plonked there. The owners clearly didn't think this aspect through, or was it all about what they wanted and to heck with anybody else?

It probably will look nice on the inside when done, but that place sticks out like a sore thumb. It is an ill fit for the surroundings.
what horrible neighbours!! Anyway why are the girls in the basement? No sunlight or windows?
