I am from India and was in junior college then. There was no cable connection in India at that time (at least it was in early stages and we didn't have one at home). I secretly took the transistor from home and bunked my classes, went to the terrace of college building, which would normally be locked, by bribing watchman some Rs 5. I then listened to this most amazing test match by tuning into shortwave and having the antenna up. what a feeling and what a match. Thanks RobelIndia for posting it
Brilliant action. No nonsense sledging just hard toughness from both sides. I also noticed that when the batsman was out he walked straight away. No rubbish hanging around trying to deceive the umpire. The early 1990`s saw some of the greatest clashes in the history of cricket between the Windies and Aussies. Brilliant and awesome.
28/02/2023 NZL wins by 1 run beating ENG @ Wellington.2nd 1 run margin test cricket.Common link a certain David Gower was on the channel9 commentary team and today he was on air when NZL won after following on.
Thank you for uploading the highlights of this great test match. It was some finish. It was also good to see Ian Bishop bowling; who knows what his career would have been like without the back injury that he picked up around 1991. Anyway, thanks again.
I watch that give and if the empire did his job and give that clear lbw against Australia there wouldn't of been no drama with west indies winning by one run
I have been searching for tapes or cd for the past test matches but could not find them. Now its an opportunity for me look all matches I have not seen.Thank you.

ABC Broadcast was there till 1997. I remember listening to wc 1996, 1996 Wi, Pak Aus triseries, Aus vs wi test series. 1997 Sa vs Aus series in SA. After 1997 they stopped, but for 1999 India and Pak series, 2000 Aus vs wi series it restarted .but stopped again from 2001.
@@vishalr6535 wow..Thanks million for the reply...Listening to Radio brodcast is such a fascinating and romantic way to follow cricket..Still listening to AIR on MWs from SL..when a match is going on with India...
Despite of result of this historical test match, the most important point i saw with proud that the passionate expressions of all windies bowlers, players after each Aussie wicket fall, and particularly last of the match, all these clears about their genuine unique love about this beautiful game of cricket. Thats why windies players have achieved great respect in our minds despite their onfield performance s and results, and this dignified love about this game is base of its long time fan following. We all should always keep cricket from any type of match fixing all over the world.
Gutting. Absolutely gutting. I'll never forget the sight of AB's reaction to Billy getting out. And Curtly Ambrose the Antiguan behemoth cleaned us up in Perth to add insult to injury. We were so close to conquering the Windies, but Tubby's team did it in the Caribbean a couple of years later, and the Aussies have never lost a series to them since. :)
Probably the best game of cricket I've ever witnessed... Just me and 3 others on the concourse opposite the members celebrating this win... Great game...
Fascinating viewing this series, the Windies coming to the end of their dominant era and Australia at the early stages of starting theirs. Could have gone either way, but Windies still had a very potent attack at this point. This version of Ian Bishop, before all the serious back injuries, was a world-class bowler.
Yesterday was the 25th anniversary of one of the greatest test matches ever played!!! JAN 26-1993 was the day when Aussies lost the Test at Adelaide by a solitary run! ONe of my favorite Test matches...used to go to my Aunt's house place to watch the Highlights in Star TV then....What a match...What a match!....What A match! The 1992-1993 - WI vs AUS 4th TEST match at Adelaide..which the West Indies Won by 1 Run.... And then Big Man Curtley Ambrose finished off the aussies in Perth with a spell that still binds my cricketing heart to him! and to Him only! He was the god of bowling for me till he retired.... The same year i got out of School and into Undergraduate College in India! 25 Years !
I remember this test match and if you're English, it's always good to see the Aussies lose. I particularly enjoyed our two run win at home against them in 2005.
As I said, deja vu when we experienced what happened at Edgbaston in 2005. The whole momentum of the series changed on that one test. England were never going to catch us had we gone up 2-0 after 2 tests. However, they found a lot of confidence for the rest of the series. As you said, instead of breaking the Windies reign at #1, we lost and got absolutely RISSOLED in the decider at Perth within 3 days, courtesy of the 7 for 1 spell by Ambrose, which single-handedly won them that match.
In hindsight, it seems that this was the great West Indies empire fading, shadows looming, cracks appearing playing away in Australia. Marshall, Holding, Roberts, Garner, Croft long gone. Ambrose was just brilliant. It was thanks to Ambrose and Walsh that they still possessed that threatening aura in subsequent years (no disrespect to the great players they had through the 90s, Lara for example was the best and some good quicks too) even as they slipped and Australia rose to prominence.
Tough pitches are manageable but tough pitches with devastating bowlers. ..impossible. Ambrose n Walsh with their towering heights can put the fear in the best of batsmen.
A very memorable match. I remember, there were media headlines mentioning Windies won one run and got one point. Windies went on to win the series. 2-1.
Arthurton was quite good again spin but truly awful against decent fast bowling. It always amused me that he strutted around like Lara yet was clearly not up to Test cricket.
He scored a century (unbeaten from memory??) in first test in Brisbane but failed to score any more runs in that series. Lara’s 277 in Sydney turned the tide against Australia and then Ambrose took 20 wickets in last two tests to win the series almost single-handedly. WI won last test in Perth in 2.5 days!
He was week point of that fully strong windies team😢 He (Keith Atherton) was also the main reason of their 1992 odi wc failure as well as their defeat again Aussies in 1996 odi wc semi final.
1992-93 series what a famous series and what enthusiasm Windies showed in that series, that you can fall in love with cricket just because of that. though I was only 10 at tht time but fell in love with their cricket. This was the last series where Windies played like Kings of Cricket, young generation can not ever get the feel of real cricket until we have a strong Windies team.
The magnificent Border was ALWAYS there for Aus whenever they needed, wasn't he?!What a superb player to have as the guiding beacon...my god, really hat's off!!
Absolutely brilliant cricket! Thx for sharing. Tough, resolute play. The brief shots of Lara are amazing. His talent shines through. But nothing could equal the presence of Curtly Ambrose. What - a - bowler! It's hard to believe but I believe we underestimate his ability. Others may have more wickets but Ambrose would have to be right up there as the bowler you'd least like to see steaming up the pitch when it counted.

Very aggressive bowling of west indies pacemen, it really scares me. But really an incredible match. Mervyn hughes bowling is worth to see as he is big burlesque but bowling slower deliveries but still took 5/63 in one innings. And other australian bowlers are so fine to see i remember when first cable tv came to my home in 1993...when i was 12 year old. Memorable match cricket, as it is played in its simplicity.
Ouch. Just two runs away from breaking the West Indies reign at #1. Not winning a test series vs West Indies was Allan Border's regret as captain. We had to wait another two more years before we got another opportunity at them. When I saw the Edgbaston test in 2005, I felt a sense of deja vu especially given what panned out during the rest of the series. Btw, do you think McDermott hit that or not? There's been a lot of debate about this all these years later
The last wicket virtually changed the series result from Australia win to West Indies win, with the Perth test left and such a let down here meant the Windies would win that test as well.
Australia can thank Dean Jones for this defeat. He is the one who aggravated Curtly Ambrose during the one day series by complaining about his arm band. That was the moment when Curtly roared to life in this series.
I totally agree. In the following test match in Perth, Curtly Ambrose took 7 wickets for 1 run, and Australia were crushed by an innings inside of 3 days. Ambrose won 3 awards straight after the Perth test, those being Player of the Match, Player of the Series, and Player of the entire Australian Summer.

It's seems that whenever there was a fearsome Windies quick tearing threw and Aussie batting lineup, he would save his best ball for getting Allan Border. How do you play that!
Justin langer made a half century in his debut in Perth in series that 50 had more value than a hundred in another he became the first Australian batsman to achieve that in Perth against west indies i admired him for that

Actually i believe the windies were on the wane they had lost a lot of great players. Greenidge, richards, Marshall and dujon. Haynes and Richardson were nearing the end of their careers and whilst Richardson was good, haynes was really out of sorts. Hooper was a waste of talent, arthurton didnt have a brain and the 150 was his only decent innings. Adams was starting out but was never going to be a great player and simmons was never going to be a top test player because he was too aggresive for his own good. Basically the west indies won the series In the end because of lara and ambrose. Australia was on the rise and would have won had ambrose was not there. Ambrose really was the big difference In this series and at his peak.

Yes. Warne had been flogged by Lara in the previous Test, when Lara made 277. His two overs in the first innings started the same way. I think Border was trying to protect Warne and save him for the WI tail.
I m following cricket since 1980 but ranking the following bowlers genuinely quick and unplayable ranked as follow; 1. Malcolm Marshall 2. Waqar Younas 3. Allen Donald when speed guns were not operating in 1980s and early 90s.❤🎉😂😅
