  • In this video, I react to British public information films. These are probably the most effective PSAs I have ever watched. From intense public safety films to amusing adverts, these vintage British public information films from the 70s, 80s, and 90s did an absolutely imperial job of getting their point across. How did you feel about these films?
    Thanks for watching! If you enjoyed this British Public Information Films reaction, please give this video a thumbs up, share your thoughts in the comments, and click the subscribe button to follow my unique journey of learning about my British ancestry.
    If you're new to my channel and videos, hello! I go by StracReacts. I make daily "comedy", and "entertainment" videos Mon - Sun. As an American growing up & living in America my whole life it made me more curious about what it's like growing up or perhaps living in another country. I enjoy noticing the funny differences between the cultures and trying to relate. I also tend to joke a lot, I believe positivity & humor means everything, I know it may sound corny but making people smile is arguably one of my best traits! I hope to see you around, and I'll see you next video! :)

      yep back then sooo many farmers children grandchildren passed or suffered major injuries due to this .....and he i think he missed the point or dont know how grain is dumped the resemblance to quick sand was just sinking and disappearing into it and the reminder to farmers to put a grid over it to prevent people falling into it lol ....quicksand isnt poured into a shaft like grain and farmers children and grandchildren got hurt and worse on farms due to this as i said and in many other horrific ways :(

      @StracReacts  12 днів тому +4

      I caught on once “Grain Silo” was mentioned. Yet again I honestly didn’t have much of an idea of what it actually was. I just assumed it was quicksand off the bat which I should’ve clarified.

    Growing up the 70's and 80's I saw these ads everywhere Very effective, and in some cases absolutely terrifying warnings for kids. To see you picking fault in them is mind boggling, they saved lives. So what if quicksand doesn't move that fast in real life, grain silos can be fucking deadly for the unaware. Kids have died from this.

    • @StracReacts
      @StracReacts  12 днів тому +2

      “Picking Fault”? Simply saying that quick sand does not move that fast isn’t denying the theory of this film. Im just simply implying that I have never seen quick sand move that fast so it felt exaggerated. But I understand the message they’re trying to get across, if it’s exaggerated a little bit it’ll cause people to be more aware and afraid of getting themselves into a situation like that.

      @@StracReactsThey are not showing quicksand though they are showing how dangerous a grain silo is and describing the sinking action as being similar to quicksand as many people have some understanding of how quicksand works.

    the green cross code was taught for years and still engrained in mind, the electricity substation was very poweful and scared you to not do it and worked. there was also a cinema only version made and it was much more graphic as showed a huge flash and him being thrown throgh air and laying dead on the ground, then next scene shows his friend doing a piercing scream (now imagine that being played on cinema speakers.)

    It wasn't quicksand. You didn't go back to the beginning of the Advert. It said at the very start that it was a grain store. Where farmers stored the grain once harvested. It was a warning for people who lived in rural areas where children would play around farm and warehouses.

    Those public information films are nothing compared to some of the stuff they used to show, some were proper horror shows designed to scare you to bits. Spirit of dark and lonely waters instantly springs to mind. Kids playing on a farm was another. Kids getting run over by drunk drivers, kids getting abducted and stuff. All on prime time TV.

    Watch some of the DOE Irish road safety adverts if you want some shocking PSA's. There is one called Mess which often provokes a strong reaction.
    One frequently reacted to is called Playground but try to locate the original version of this as there is a modified version going around with cartoon sound effects added which detract from the message.

    Quicksand-that is, sand that behaves as a liquid because it is saturated with water-can be a mucky nuisance, but it’s basically impossible to die in the way that is depicted in movies. That’s because quicksand is denser than the human body. People and animals can get stuck in it, but they don’t get sucked down to the bottom-they float on the surface. Our legs are pretty dense, so they may sink, but the torso contains the lungs, and thus is buoyant enough to stay out of trouble.
    If you do find yourself stuck in quicksand, the best idea is to lean back so that the weight of your body is distributed over a wider area. Moving won’t cause you to sink. In fact, slow back-and-forth movements can actually let water into the cavity around a trapped limb, loosening the quicksand’s hold. Getting out will take a while, though. Physicists have calculated that the force required to extract your foot from quicksand at a rate of one centimeter per second is roughly equal to the force needed to lift a medium-sized car. One genuine danger is that a person who is immobilized in quicksand could be engulfed and drowned by an incoming tide-quicksands often occur in tidal areas-but even these types of accidents are very rare.
