So at the beginning she was mad at her daughter b/c she loved food and couldn't fit into a dress, then the photographer tells her own story honestly, you really don't know what everybody has been through, my friend at school said "People are more alike than you would think." this is very very true.Thank you Dhar Mann.
I LOVE THIS VIDEO!!! I spent most of my life being fat shamed by my Mother!!! She was so horrible to me, that other people tried to talk to her and she still wouldn’t listen to them…
She NEVER cared until she died how badly she hurt me with this. She even promised me things that she had no intention of ever coming through with!! I found these out a couple of years before she passed away, but any time I would ever speak to her the first question out of her mouth was to ask me if I had lost any weight..
I have forgiven her because it would just continue to eat me up inside if I didn’t. So thank you so much for doing these videos !!!

I know what's it like to be overweight because I am right now. It's very hard with all the bullying and shaming, but look on the bright side, they also encouraged me to lose weight. And to all the overweight people out there, be happy with yourself.

I literally go through this with my mom when she has her phases, she will be nice at one moment, then mean the next and when she is mean, she will reach a point in conversation where she will talk about my weight. She will say that I'm fat and that I look like a woman, and that I need to fast and stop being greedy. The problem with this is a lot, first off, I am not even fat, I'm overweight which is slightly over the healthy weight for my age. Secondly, the part where she always says I look like a woman really makes me feel some type of way because I cannot help how my body looks, and what I notice is that as far as I know, I only hear her talking about how I look like a woman, but I can never recall her EVER complaining about a boy looking like a man. I'm pretty sure you can tell where I'm going with that, it isn't fair at all how girls are constantly shamed even by their own mothers. Third, which is final, she associates my hunger with greediness. For example, I could have woken up, and I will wait a few hours for her to wake up on the weekend, and when she does I feel hungry by then because she gets up late in the afternoon. Of course during this time frame I will eventually be hungry, but I can't say anything because that will mean that I'm "greedy". So, if I mention my hunger she will basically say that I am not gonna die and that kids in Africa are going through worse, and while I know this I don't understand how that makes me being hungry a problem and means that I am greedy. Anyways, I am sorry that this was so long of a paragraph, but I had to tell you all a smidgen of my story because it is hard, it really is, and it is painful coming from my own mom. If possible, it would be nice if Dhar Mann could make a video based on this story of mine to show how there are some toxic people in the world that can even be your own family but it shouldn't be that way, family should love you no matter what. 😔😔

This episode really hits home for me ! I was an overweight girl growing up and some people do look at you differently and make faces of disgust at you, judging you, it hurts. Some people even ones you don't even know and will say things to you. My family teased each other but nothing to the extent that this mother does to her own child. That's how our society has shamed the world for all different things, not just weight. Our society is about gossip, that's what's pushed and tearing people down instead of at least trying to lift each other up. So please everyone be kind to each other and treat people how you would like to be treated. And when I say everyone that should include the homeless, please and God bless all of you

Just wanted to thank you for your awesome videos Dhar. No one, and I MEAN NO ONE should be judged based on outward appearances. I know what it’s like to be judged first by people before even being given a chance, as I am an African American woman who has albinism, and you wouldn’t believe some of the names I have been called….but then again you probably would. I have been put down not only for my uber fair complexion, but also for my yellow hair color…..it would truly be nice if people took the time to get to know something about a person first instead of judging, and criticizing them ESPECIALLY when it’s something that person has no control over…..☺️

I was skinny shamed by my father after school one day, we would go to Taco Bell every other Friday and he skinny shamed me and made me eat more food there then I could handle and then I got upset and kept eating, gained weight felt like crap then my ex told me I was too skinny and made me eat so much I wanted to throw up. I dumped my ex and then my dad turned around and actually became supportive and quit saying rude things. I recently just lost the weight from that experience but now I have the issues with birth control and it’s side effect of weight gain so I have to work out a little more often.
I am deppresd secretly because my friends will fat shame me and my parents and people that i dont know and now i have deprtion without people asking and i have way more thing that make me deppresd but no body asks how i feel or are you ok most of the time i think my life dosent matter to them 😔

And her reply was 'I love you a lot and you're beautiful, I always ask you to lose weight for your own good. It's not for beauty, it's for health. My mom cares about me but when it comes to my body she compares me to other people telling me there's a certain body type I'm supposed to look. She talks about my body for days and if I eat something that sugary or savory she reminds me all the time. Not about my health just how I look.

My mother wasn’t liked this towards me. My grandmother was liked this almost my whole life. For a little bit over 3 years my grandmother was sweet and friendly towards the end. I remembered going to this one restaurant with her and my mother. I wasn’t hungry but, I ordered a crock of this cheese soup. I got up from my chair to used the restroom at the restaurant just after ordering. My grandmother complained about me being fat. I started to cried what she said that was so hurtful for someone in their early 30’s at that time. I can’t believed that she is my grandmother that said that to her own flesh and blood. My mother said that she was a princess while growing up and was treated liked one,too. She even called my mother ugly when she was in her teens. When I saw my mother that I think she was beautiful person inside. I even looked liked her,too. Even when I was a kid that I used to have long hair. When I was almost 12 years old that I got my haircut short for the first time. In the mid 90’s that I had my hair long again. I got it cut in April 1997 to shoulder length. By mid December that I got it trimmed up with layered bangs. 3 year after that I got my haircut short back in December 2000. It has been short ever since then in different hairstyles. I even liked my hairstyle in faux hawk. That is more edgy hairstyle. I do missed my mother and my grandmother.
It doesn't matter if your fat or skinny because beauty comes in all sizes.
