They killed this show off WAY too early. It really had an almost unlimited potential - an entire universe's worth.

If they would have given this series more time,I think it could have been a really good show.I guess wrestling was better.Damn you sci-fi channel.

either that or they put it into a shitty time slot which happens a lot with these sci-fi shows most of the time

While some of us loved it as it was, the fact that it was a complete tonal shift from standard SG fare was what killed it. SG fans weren't keen on the series taking a heavier focus on character drama and interactions rather than the mission. Given that it was originally written NOT to be a Stargate show and had the Stargate elements slapped on it later, it's a legitimate criticism. I reckon if it had been left to its own devices as an original IP it might have done better.

Till this day I cannot heads or tail why SGU was replaced by a wrestling on the SCI-FI Channel? What does wrestling have have to do with anything on the channel

Never been so disappointed while I was waiting for the next season to come out to find out they canceled it.
Online Streamers at the time killed it. Watching it online rather then on tv where the numbers counted. Tell me I’m wrong.

That would be one of the very many things that happened MGM going bankrupt being the biggest also the fact that the rest of the loyal fan base didn't want to watch it because it wasn't close enough to what they were used to. But you are not wrong you're just not saying the whole story.

Well, the show has an international audience and many would not have been able to watch it if it wasnt for torrents. Which is how I watched myself.

Streamers had nothing to do with it.
      Streaming numbers actually count.
Television only matters through ad revenue but viewership numbers don't count. They are made up, imaginary estimations of how many people they think are viewing.
If by streamers you meant to say pirates, then yeah that didn't help.
The issue was bad advertising and vague trailers and a bad time slot.
Only true hardcore Stargate fans were really even aware it was airing, and because of trailers they were skeptical and chose to pirate and see if it was any good before spending money to pay for online viewing.
By then though the show was not considered popular so like all shows in the bad timeslot it got moved to an even worse timeslot so that they could air shows that paid for the timeslot.
Then we have the fact that the writing was absolute garbage. People tuned in and instead of seeing Stargate they saw 'Lost' but in space.
Examples include retconning lore about how the gate tech worked, how long the Ancients had gates.
You could also tell they no longer had military advisors for the show or were not listening to them.
The show became a chaotic drama, for example the soldiers sent on these missions would not be freaking out even in the face of certain death, they are far too disciplined.
But here they are scared and angry and acting like 30 year old highschoolers.
Over all the show was good, but it just wasn't Stargate, it didn't have the same feeling of SGU or Atlantis.

@@alexistaylor969 yes streamer count now but 10 yrs or so, they were not part of the system. Like the other guy mentioned many were not using torrents numbers. Those were areas of the internet that yet accounted for.

Shouldn't Eli's arm be sticking out of Destiny's gate? Come on, that was more, than just his hand, it was a full arm in the event horizon. Also when in the first episode of SG-1 Teal'c held I guess Feretti was his name? The guy had less of him in there and it didn't prevent the shutting down of the gate, resulting in the death of that Goa'uld back then. So one time it doesn't work, next time it does?

    • @Au7stenThe7IsSilent
      @Au7stenThe7IsSilent  6 років тому +6

No think about it in the case of SG-1 they manually shut down the gate and also no Eli's hand would not be coming through the other side he would have to go through the gate completely to be dematerialized and then rematerialized on the other end. As a safety feature built into the Stargate any matter that is not fully through the Stargate the gate will stay open for 38 minutes before shutting down or manually shut down on one end like what happened in Stargate SG-1. O'Neal saying teal cold him there teal'c struggling with the Gould sticking his head partially in and O'Neill manually shutting down the gate

@@Au7stenThe7IsSilent Oh, yes, I've forgot about that, thanks for the details. It's been a time, since I'v re-watched the SG-1, so it got a little blurry in my mind. And that rule about the whole matter was also explained in SGA, when Sheppard's Jumper was stuck in the gate, because of the unfolded engines. I should really get another SG marathon a go.
