Lerna here is a reference to the Lernean Hydra, Second of Twelve task of Hercules. They even give it false cores to symbolize the sheer unkillability of the thing. And Miyabi picked her command staff well. An administrator and a nay-smith.

Since we know all of the oni stuff happened while she was in the defense force, I assume Nagi already has Soukaku before this. Based on how Miyabi is I wouldn't be surprised if Nagi ended up in a situation where she had to bring Soukaku to work one day and Miyabi liked her, saw she was hardy and just decided that she should be on the team.

your reaction vids are always so hype! and i rlly like how you delve a bit deeper everytime, rewatching and even researching aspects of the lore and such :0!!
Sooooo, another comment on the actual video tipped me off, but "Lerna" is an explicit reference to the mythical Hydra, AKA Hydra of Lerna or Lernaean Hydra. It's also a bit on the nose i guess considering it created "false cores" (heads) when its core was attacked... like the hydra creates new heads when its neck is chopped. So that's fun. Interestingly, the Argo (ship) carried Jason, not Heracles, so that doesn't quite line up as neatly. I need actual mythology heads to tell me if the city or its labyrinth has anything to the legends. Edit 2: Well shit, i shoulda dug harder i guess LOL
In the original CN script dialogue TOPS Consultant has kinda different, more of a layered turn of phrasing in context due to the language "武力" ([wu-li] = lit. martial prowess/brute force in context), which insinuates an individual is 'powerless' against overwhelming unknown forces. The JP version of the script in this dialogue also uses "蛮勇" ([Ban yū] = reckless bravado) to describe Miyabi's bold, yet reckless action. Hence, Miyabi forms an organization of her own Sector (6) of Martial Prowess to combat the Corruption (double meaning in all) in the New Eridu.
I don't think TOPS purposely expanded Argos here or even getting anything that was inside, given the representative wanted to blow it up. Harumasa even called her out about wanting to blow up because they have an investment near wherever Argos was expanding. So its implied TOPS just wants to blow to save themselves money. Like, yeah TOPS is sus af and most certainly become a major antagonistic force in game but in this particular case, I think they're just being cheapskates.
@@TrueWarriorJak idk because they could have easily accepted Miyabi going in and defeating the ethereal for the same outcome but less expense (rebuilding the city) It's almost like they intentionally wanted either the pillar itself gone or that city gone.
She's so sus with "not wanting Miyabi to go in". if thing go wrong and Miyabi fail in that 5 minute, they can just blow up Shiyu 7. I don't think she would care about Miyabi's life at that point, she's not even Void hunter yet.
@AzrialVanity That's most likely because they're unaware of how strong miyabj is, like how miyabi questioned them. "Do you know what it's like to fight in a hollow? " they clearly don't know anything about that and during this time, miyabi is just a executive officer and was not given the voidhunter title yet.
@kivy3951 from what I got from the video (I could be wrong) everytime they failed to destroy the real core, it duplicates and and expand the hollow. So if miyabi had failed there, it would have turned into a great hollow which probably couldn't be wiped out by mere explosives
@@imadegenerate9867 The first part I agree with you, but the second part not so much. 🤔 I still think the explosives would work, but just like the OP mentioned, the objective is most likely their own assets that was near. So if Miyabi fails, TOPS would lose their near assets as they would get caught by the explosion.
Not only is this a big trailer for Miyabi, it’s also an interesting look into hollow ecology. It seems that at times, holllows will generate a unique ethereal to act as a sort of guardian of the hollow. We’ve seen and heard a few so far such as the dead end butcher, the hive lord, the exaltist overseer, and Nineveh.
So...I just realized something. Would you say that there's a parallel between the TOPS rep's decision here, and the Vision situation in Chapter 1? I see them being really similar events, where someone knows there are people in the hollow and still want to blow things up, not regardless of casualties...more like actually wanting casualties. It's like their intent is to blow things up while people are still inside. It seems like they're trying to keep people in the hollow. Is it merely negligence? Or is there actually plot brewing?
@thetrickster4899 apparently the order could control giant ethereals so maybe tops is trying to do the same and that's why they say the target is losing control at the beginning.
@@izacruelas1214 didn't want to outright use the word cause I'm not sure what a sacrifice fully entails in ZZZ, but if that's what's needed for one...things are a lot more grim.
While that would be awesomely messed up, they are pretty different. This one would be blowing the pillar because the pillar is right there about to be swallowed, so might as well make use of it, while the visión case is sending a train to blow up the people that live on the other side of a hollow for the sake of a cheaper operation. I will say though; they are obssesed with blowing stuff up

So, considering 'Eridu Genesis' (Shumerian Creation Myth) and other 'Divine Comedy' (wth Greek Myth) references (like Lernean Hydra, Helios the Sun God and their child Phaethon, etc many more) the Story getting really thematic and interesting (with original retellings) even more. We seeing classic Hoyoverse scriptwriting at work, huh.
