I regret that I had to deliver this lecture, with its emotionally stirring subject, through the sniffles of a terrible summer cold. But because the material is so emotionally stirring, there's a good chance I would have been sniffling throughout regardless!
Listening to your lecture was so heartwarming and ecstatic... Thanks for the clarity you gave me on why I need to read literature. I hope this lecture turns into a book like you said towards the end!
Life is about to get more interesting and more fulfilling when you engage in more great literature. The vividness of your life will come into sharper focus.
This beautiful address carries so much more weight today in the ways our academies of higher learning have collapsed the reading of great literature into a theory of why that literature is harmful and should be avoided. Your passion overpowers their voices that in contrast to your conviction are "quiet and meaningless/As wind in dry grass/ Or rats' feet over broken glass". The best have your conviction now.
life is all about to explore yourself, explore your real potential. In short life is a journey from Self to Self-realization. Don't waste your time in searching the meaning of life, try to invest your every second in giving your life its real meaning.
I refuse to follow the narrative when language used can be summed up by "protagonist was forced by life situation to do X". Being free or being coerced makes sense only in social context. If you are alone as complete outcast, you are neither free nor unfree. Statement about force and freedom are in this case completelly out of context and therefore arbitrary ("not even wrong"). Are you forced to drink and eat? Answer: Nonsense.

Thank you for sharing this lecture. It eloquently puts into words what I have tried to explain to my children for years.
