Thanks for sharing your story - that take some balls - inspiring 4sure. Lets all take a minute to think about ONE THING we can do, no matter how large or small, to bring love like this into the world and do it. Let us learn that the good and the bad bring us to the Fullness Of Humanity (FOH) and we can turn any bad into some good for ourselves and others... What is your one thing to bring love into the world???

Not just easier - as therapy for FAS. None of us can control the circumstances we are born to, but FAS seems especially cruel.
Hopefully this incredible dramatic environmental intervention by his dads help Makai overcome the challenges of FAS.

This gives me hope for our un-United States. POS Judge Alito...publicly came out and said that abortions need to be banned...because our country "needs more White babies". That is the state of our Dis-Union.
My first thought about that statement was that there are plenty of foster kids who need safe and healthy permanent homes. THEY are the product of parents who should have never gotten pregnant and unfit to raise any child. SCOTUS Haters like Thomas, and Alito and all the rest of those judges who banned abortion for such a flimsy and racist reason should be FIRED...I hope one day they burn in the Hell they believe in for their evil actions.

I’m a retired child protection social worker and it would break my heart to have children take their belongings in trash bags - as if we felt they were trash themselves. My quilt group made a massive effort to make quilts for each kid coming into foster care and their belongings were in backpacks or suitcases. One woman (now in her 50’s) stays in touch with me and a few years ago showed me she still had what was left of her quilt. Tattered beyond recognition I was incredibly moved that 40 some odd years later it still meant so much to her. My thanks and huge hugs to these dads for loving these kids and giving them a loving place in their hearts to call home. ❤

You are spot on! If having gay parents mean your kids will become gay, then there should not be very many gay people on the planet, since most kids were conceived through heterosexual intercourse and raised by straight parents. So if straight parents end up with gay kids, just maybe gay parents will end up with straight kids. Seriously though, the sexual identity of ones parents does not dictate the child's sexual identity. People need to stop the hate and let loving parents share their lives with kids that need good parents and love, notwithstanding the parents' sexual identity, FULL STOP!!

I am an adoptee 75 years ago. I hit the jackpot with my parents, so loving and gentle and compassionate. At 53 I met my younger half-sister and she lived the life I would have had. Her father, my step-father, was abusive to her and my birth mom. I’m so happy for your kids and you to build a loving household. Both sides reap what you sow, just like I’m reaping what my adoptive parents, now deceased, have sown in me: love, joy, compassion and gratefulness.

Fantastic story! I was a foster parent for 6 years. I stopped when I adopted my foster son who needed a full time mom. Working with my son was very labor intensive because he was already a teenager when I adopted him and while he was very smart he was also very immature. He needed to grow up a lot in a short time. It wasn’t easy and as a young rebellious adult he made some bad decisions. But today he is a responsible young man and a wonderful father. Fostering was one of the best decisions I ever made. My first foster daughter still calls me from time to time to let me know how she is doing. It is so rewarding to hear how happy she is.

From a Los Angeles County DCFS social worker, thank you. We have thousands of wonderful foster caregivers, some decent ones, and (sadly) some abusive and selfish ones. The type of family unit does not matter, but the commitment and love from the caregiver does. Congratulations on being stellar dads and raising great human beings. And yes, the trash bags are still used because some kids move so often that they lose their stuff. It's easy to grab a clean bag and load their things for the next place. Sometimes we save large shopping bags to use instead--same function, but better than the infamous large black trash bin bags. L.A. County spends millions of dollars to fund foster placements. It would be simple to buy large canvas bags for each child to move their clothing and what little personal property they take with them. Many church groups make them for us, sometimes with the kids' names painted or embroidered on them, and it helps the kids feel more important. I'm sorry Rob suffered abuse as a child. That's horrible, and it doesn't end.

I think the most impactful moment was his sponsoring the kid’s in care. Having a backpack is monumentally different than toting your belongings in a trash bag. The trash bag symbolizes, that you are just a pawn in a system that doesn’t really care about you. The backpack effort is huge. It says that you’re somebody worthy of adoption and care and are special.

Wow! I have been speaking about this issue for years (even the trash bag full of their belongings). I call the American Foster Care system "America's silent shame." I even had a segment on my former radio show about this. Thank you for what you are doing publicly and privately to help youth and speak out about the Foster Care system. Rob, you brought tears to my eyes.

What a great story Rob! I was raised as a WHITE minatory in the 80's in New Mexico and know what it 's like to be cast out, very rare as a white person but we are a product of of environment, picked onions with immigrants, and even lived on the Rio Grange River because we couldn't pay our rent. I have struggled most of my life as most of us have but I stayed diligent and now have a home and a business in Vermont , one of the most expensive states to live in this country, I DID IT! Even made it through the Pandemic, road construction, labor shortage, food pricing rising cost, it's endless but we still carry on! Enough about me and mine.
I love your story, don't care if you are Gay, you and your spouse are part of the solution and not the problem, so many children should not need to live without guidance like I did , GOD bless you both for taking in all 4 children and raising them as your own, I'll bee watching!!!

They loved me & never made me feel unwelcome! That was 51 years ago. . .our relationship is strong. . .we weathered the loss of 3 of our children, and so love the remaining 2. They are strong, loving men; now in their 40's. . .and have blessed us with grands & great-grands. I am only sharing my story so you know we all heal just a bit more by sharing our stories. You both opened your hearts to 4 children who have blessed you as well as have been blessed. Keep sharing your love. . .it will come back to you in buckets! My hubby went through the foster care system for a short period when he was younger due to abuse. I got emotional when he told me how it was for him.
He remembers having dinner with his foster family but still going to bed hungry because the portions were a lot smaller. My heart broke for him.. for a 9 yr old that felt no connection and felt so out of place. I think about all those boys and girls that crave the love and affection they deserve everyday. 😢

I have seen this so many times, but it still gets to me. How somebody can treat their kids like his father did? How the gift from God, what a kid is essentially, can be abused so badly? And then this wonderful man and his equally wonderful husband make a beautiful home for these kids. I said it once and I will say it again: real love can not be wrong. Whether it is between men and men or man and woman. And that whilst I consider myself a child from God. I mean, look how blessed these children are with these two wonderful parents. How amazing!
