I learned this while living in Switzerland. My family and I play now with additional rules. 2 resets the pile at 2, 3 is invisible and keeps it what ever it is played on, 7 reverses the order and 10 clears. One of my favorite card games.
I've found so many variations of "magic cards"! I know of 7 to be "higher or lower", meaning if you play a seven, you dictate to the next player if their play must be higher or lower than a 7. They can match a 7 and then they dictate to the next player the higher or lower rule. I've seen Jacks reverse order of play. I've seen 8s skip the next player.
We play it exactly the same except 8 skips the person next in line. We also add jokers which just means you can go again and put whatever, similar to the 10 except it doesn't burn
Haha we play 2 starts again, 8 means the next player must go lower than an 8, 10 burn and jokers reverse play. Fantastic game if you are in the pub playing for rounds of drinks (shithead is buying of course) peace!
My brother and I played this in tea houses trekking up to Everest Basecamp. Every night without fail, with people from all over the world. The moment I got back to the UK, I completely forgot how to play. Weird! Thanks for the recap!
Interesting to see everyone’s different rules! As a kid, we played as follows: 2 resets the count 7 is invisible 9 means next player must play lower than a 9 10 removes the deck (but cannot be played after a 9) and whoever plays a 10 can play another card after burning the deck. Ace means next player must play another ace or another special card. Also cannot be played after a 9
My family picked up this game about 15 years ago while traveling and it has been our go-to since. I love how the rules vary so much from person to person. We actually learned it with a bunch of extra rules. 2 is the same, it can be played on anything. The only difference with the 10 is that it also has to be able to beat the card its placed on, so no placing it on Jack or higher (or 7). 7 reverses the rules and the next person has to play below it, i.e. 7 or lower (this probably my favorite). 8 makes the next player skip a turn, unless they have an 8 also and 9 can be placed on anything except for 7s and Aces. We also played this with 4 cards instead of 3 to progress through the game-stages faster, since the refill pile is smaller. One rule we have been trying out, but aren't sure yet, is that you can't play a 2 on a 3. This wouldn't change much, but it would make some great moments in the end with face down cards.
Interesting. Every version I played had the following wild cards. 2 - restarts the deck 3 - invisible (see through) 7 - must play lower or same as 7 10 - burn the deck Some houses play 8 miss a go.
I learned to play this game in Australia 2004/05. In Cairns. The Caravella Backpackers to be precise. The fucking craic we got out of this one game alone was ridiculous. Best time ever ❤
We learnt it the same as this, except Jokers are another wildcard. Jokers reverse the direction of play, which also means the guy who played last has to beat or match his own card.
Additional rules: 2 on anything 3 makes next person pick up the pile ( unless they have a 3) 5 allows you to play a second card of equal or higher value 7 means the next card has to be lower
I played with: 2 goes on anything, is a wildcard 5: match or lower 7: reverse round order 10: clears pile, you go again. If you dont have a card, you can chance it and draw one to use on the pile. If its a legal play, good! If not, draw the pile as normal, with the card you drew too.
I taught my kids to play this in lock down and they were so competitive! We use the 3 card as a mirror so you can put 3 on anything and it reflects whatever is under it... :)
Me and my friends add 2 Jokers in as "Exchange". Whenever you have the Joker, you have to exchange your on-hand cards. It takes the game to a whole new level!
Our rules: 2 and 10 are wildcards as in video after a 7 you can only meet or go lower ace can be high or low declared by player one 8 skips to the left. if there is 2 players only, you just get another go regardless of how many 8s you placed. we start left of the dealer, any hand card(s) after swaps. doesn't have to start with the 3s for us. four cards of the same kind burn as explained in video. and you don't have to play if you don't want to, can pick up. Also if the 'stock' is in the middle and you don't want to use a card in hand you can take a risk by pulling one card from the top of the 'stock'.
I'm too excited, idc if this is old. We played this game at house parties when I was in college. Drinking was central to it, every time the pile gets blown up you take a drink. Two drinks when you blow up 666. 2 restarts, 7 means you have to play under, 8 is a mirror (next person has to play on the previous play), 10 blows it up. I made custom cards for it with art themed around the game. We called it "Three Card", I miss those days.
I learnt this game acctually not knowing the name so imagine my suprise when I learn its called shithead. Also when I learnt it 7 was also a wild card! It basically skipped your turn and the next player had to beat or match the card under the 7.
Me and my friends play with some different rules. We play with 5 cards in hand, and if someone plays a 2 they can play any other card on the same turn. That applies everytime someone plays a 2 which means that a player can put more 2s and still put another card on top. 10 burns the deck.
Very fun game! in the variation that I learned, it is mostly similar except the power cards which all can be played at any times. Power cards are: 2 - resets the deck; can go on top of any card 4 - invisible, "match" card; it can be played any time 7 - play lower or equal to 7 (wild cards are okay to play, so other player can also play a 2, 4 or 10 on it as they are also wild cards); it can also be played anytime 10 - burns the deck; it can be played anytime( including the 7)
I always played the trick cards as 2 resets the deck 3 invisible 10 gets rid of all card and puts them to the side and ace was you could ask someone to play a trick ace 2 3 10 or non trick every other card and 7 you have to play lower than but it’s not a trick card
We used to play, 2 - Goes on anything and anything can go on it. 7 - Got to be another 7 or lower than 7. 8 - The next player misses a go. 10 - Burns the pack. You can do runs of three numbers in a row, e.g 3,4,5 or J,Q,K. If when someone puts a card in the play pile that's the 4th of that number on top of eachother it burns the pile.
Everything was exactly how I remembered except in my friends and familys version. Who ever puts down the 2 gets to put another card down, not the next person. Because we would use the 2 to get rid our shitty low card, why woukd we help everyone else and let it come back around a high card when its our turn?
I play the same rules but 5 is also a power card, when one is played the next player must play a card with value of 5 or under! The game also ends as soon as one player has no cards.
In the northwest, our scout troops play a version of this game but we call it "village idiot" and it has extra rules with sevens and nines (I don't remember the rules exactly) but we all tend to have the same rule set in our region.
When I have played, all power cards have reset the count, so after a power card you can place any card you like. The power cards I have always played with are: 2 - Can be played on top of any card, as shown in this video. 3 - Flash the card at any player, they immediately have to pick up the deck, unless they have a three which they can immediately flash you back with. This can result in a rare and amazing occurrence when two players have all the 3s, and they flash each other 4 times back and forth so the original person flashing the 3 has to pick up. It also adds a degree of risk as to whether a player you flash a 3 at may eventually flash you with the 3 in return, but also a semi-collective desire to burn the 3s as soon as it is no longer in their hands. 7 - When playing a 7 you choose either "higher" or "lower", where the next player has to place a card either higher or lower than 7. This can really mess with players if you know what cards they have based on what they have picked up in the later stage of the game. 8 - The next player skips their turn 10 - Burns the accumulated deck, and allows the burner to place another card(s) to start the new deck. As 3 is a power card, you start the game by having the person with the most 4s place their 4s, rather than 3s.
Idk why, but the game is called China Hand in Finland. Though me an my friends just called it China. We used to play this all the time during recess in High School when I taught everyone how to play. We used to have this house rule, that if you didn't have any playable cards left and there is still a draw pile, you're allowed to draw one from the pile blind and immediately play it, if the drawn card is legal (i.e. a wildcard or a card with a higher rank) you're saved from drawing the discard pile. If that blindly drawn card wasn't one, you draw it and the pile. Another rule we had, was that if the next player doesn't tap on the cards you played (and they haven't played their card) you are allowed to switch the card(s) with one(s) in your hand (for example if you drew a card that is lower than the one you played and you want to play it instead). We also had an automatic losing condition to spice up the game play. If the last face down card you play is a 2, you lose! That's it! The game can still continue on without you if people want to play.
The rules we played were 2s can always be laid as reset and whoever laid it can lay anything on top.....7s player calls higher or lower.....10 burns.....j see through to the card below unless player plays a higher card on top.ace can be directed at anyone on table. Jokers are wild. Shithead wheels up and can deal out any format of the table cards he wishes and decide how many cards in hand.
Was thought this game as a kid. Still is some of the most fun with cards. Although i had alternative rules. 2 goes on anything. 7 also goes on anything, but the next card is lower. 8 the next player skips a go. 10 burns the pile.
We played the 2 and 10 the same way, but also added invisible 3’s (the card below the three still applies), and 9’s where you must lay equal or lower than a 9 (meaning you cannot lay a 10 on a 9). IMHO the 9 rule is essential to the game.
Interesting, our variant is played as follows: No swapping of face up cards with your starting hand. You play with how your cards were dealt. 2 - reset 7 - must play lower than 7 8 - next person miss a go 10 - burn the deck Q - reverse the direction 4 of a kind - burn the deck. Joker - next person picks up the deck regardless of their next card. 2 x joker in a row - next person picks up both deck and burn pile. Finally, your final card cant be a 2, 7 or 10, otherwise you pick up the deck.
Best game ever 😊👌🏽 played that game from 30 years till now. And you explained it just how it is. Only extra rule we used. Was being able to throw down a 9, if played properly in order, and then being able to rheow down any lower card off a 9, apposed to a 2 and the 10.. everything else you explained was exactly how i remember it and i havent played it in 10 years and wanted to remember, (most fun game ever) Loser* THANKS For the Purfect refresh... gonna be able to play it now for years to come 👑! Palace we called it. And the 9 card ... other than that...thanks soo much. To a T you explained it 👌🏽 been dying to play it ❤☒ solid bro
Been looking for a video for this game, we’ve always called it shed so It’s been a look 😂 we have a few house rules we’ve been playing with but this is a great video to send our friends who don’t know!
Me and my friends play this with multiple decks of cards. We increase the face downs to 5/6. We also play elimination with just one face down each. There's Horde where up to 10 decks are played. You each have 10 facedowns and are able to reserve up to 4 cards from play, which would in turn reduce the hand to 6. The played reserve would count to reduce your overall hand health so playing would it is consequential. Lastly is Boss mode. One person is dealt 10 face downs whilst the rest have 3. The winner is determined by who survived the longest. All can also be played with transparent 3, lower then 7, miss a go 8 and high Jokers. Jokers only need 2 played to cancel the pile out and transparent 3 can be placed as as a set but can't be used to cancel. Eg 9,9,9,3. 9,3,9,3.
Fun rule for when 3 or more players joker reverses rotation n something I like too call a jump in burn, if you have the remaining cards too complete a burn on the pile you can “jump in” and burn even if it’s not ur turn but you must be fast and remember too call it out
We play: Ace = Challenge, person who played it must pick someone to challenge. They either play another Ace and redirect the challenge or play a 2 to defend themselves - if you cannot do either, pick up the pile 3 = next card must be an odd number 9 = next card must be lower than
I played this game for 4 months while deployed , The 1st 1 out would say, There are no winners only losers But we used the 7 to change to a higher or lower card in your hand Ace was a game card ,it could not be beaten and it was placed on any card and you could start with low numbered cards from 2 up , and if you won you could not laugh or be happy as you would then have to Puck up yours cards and 1 from the deck , I lost soo many times but got good in the end FP in Al Minhad 2023. ❤❤😂😂
2 puts it back to 2 or higher , 3 is player can put down any card after 3 , 7 mirrors the previous card , 10 burns the deck the player that places the 10 starts the new deck
In engineering school we call it "engineer" because everyone plays it, also we have a rule that you can use a 5 anywhere, but the catch is that the next person will lose a turn, so for example in a game of three people let's say you're Person B, and Person A throws an ace card and you're next, but you don't have an ace, a 10 or a 2 but you have a 5, so you throw it. That means that Person C loses one turn and then it's Person A's turn, so what next? Well, he now has to put a card higher than ace, equal or a special card (2,5,10) because even tho 5 was the last card thrown, it doesn't count as a number. Another example to understand how a 5 works: Person A: 3 Person B: 6 Person C: 9 Person A: Q Person B: 5 Person C: Doesn't have a turn beacuse person B threw a 5 Person A: K (He need to continue as if there were still a queen there, ignoring the "5")
@@WesleyRiot Haha, don't think so. It's just that english isn't my first language so sometimes I can't explain something in the most effective way as I would do in spanish.
In prison it was always played with 2,8,7 and 10 being special cards. 2=any card, 7=play lower than 7, 8=see through so higher than the card below, 10=burn the deck
I always play with 8 skipping a go, 7 you have to place a card lower than 7, jack reverses order of play and joker burns the deck. And you can’t win on a power card
Our version was 10 - bomb 8 - invisible card next player has to Beat the one below the 8 7 - wild card 7 and below 2 - resets the order and anything can be places on and above
I like how in the comments we have our own way on playing palace, the way I play it is 2s reset 7s you tell the next player to go higher or lower then 7 10 explodes the pile 4 cards in a row explodes the pile
there are more wild cards a 3 is a glass card so you can put it on another card and the person who's next needs to play higher then the card below the 3 when you play a 7 the person who needs to play after you needs to put a card below 7 and then the next person needs to go higher again so it's a one time thing only with a 7 when you play an 8 you can play another higher card (a second turn ig you could call it) but it needs to be higher so no 2 or 3
I play like this 7, 2, 3 and 10 can be played on anything 7 forced cards lower than 7, 10 clears and lets you go a again, 3 forces somon else to pick up the pile and skips there turn 2 doesnt do anything else other than it can be played on anything. Edit: If somone uses a 3 on you, you can use a 3 back on them and discard both of the 3's.
Great how many variations there are. We used to have a 3 as a magic. If you played this and the following player didn't have another 3, they'd take the stack. 8 was the mirror. 10 was the discard burn and 2 was the same as you had explained. Pretty identical to the rules you play. By far the best card game I have ever played!
Wildcards can differ depending on how the person was taught, for example I live in the uk and the rules I was brought up with are the same as you described but: 9- must play lower or equal to 9 Edit: There is a lot of debate on the wild cards that are used in this game, many of which just lead to arguments
Hi Robert, I know some people play this a little different depending on their region. I think I showed the most common way, but I wouldn’t say other ways are wrong.
Well you can’t end with a two or a ten, 2 let’s you put any card on the pile, not giving that choice to the opponents, and if you en the last card is a two or ten, you lose
Ok… does anyone else have a hard time wrapping your head around the final phase of gameplay? We’re trying to figure it out. It seems like a mad scramble, and passing piles back and forth. So different than the first part when you have cards in the ‘stock’ pile. Help!
Hey Brooke! For your face-UP table cards, try building SETS (same rank). You can play ALL cards in a set AT ONCE later, giving you a big advantage! You can’t always do that, but at least make sure you have your strongest cards on the table. For the face down table cards, you’ll need a bit of luck. No way around that. Hope that helps!
We have it so when someone placed 7 the next person has to play a lower card than 7 and after it continues as normal and 8 is a transparent card
Haha we play 2 starts again, 8 means the next player must go lower than an 8, 10 burn and jokers reverse play. Fantastic game if you are in the pub playing for rounds of drinks (shithead is buying of course) peace!
I learned it in prison FML 😂

Our rules:
2 and 10 are wildcards as in video
after a 7 you can only meet or go lower
ace can be high or low declared by player
one 8 skips to the left. if there is 2 players only, you just get another go regardless of how many 8s you placed.

My cousin taught me this game. The rules are so strange I was sure he made it up. Great game
Was thought this game as a kid. Still is some of the most fun with cards.
Although i had alternative rules.
2 goes on anything.
7 also goes on anything, but the next card is lower.
8 the next player skips a go.
10 burns the pile.
Love this game, we played it in high school. But we call it CTM down here.
We played the 2 and 10 the same way, but also added invisible 3’s (the card below the three still applies), and 9’s where you must lay equal or lower than a 9 (meaning you cannot lay a 10 on a 9). IMHO the 9 rule is essential to the game.
Interesting, our variant is played as follows:
No swapping of face up cards with your starting hand. You play with how your cards were dealt.
2 - reset
7 - must play lower than 7
8 - next person miss a go
10 - burn the deck
Q - reverse the direction
4 of a kind - burn the deck.
Joker - next person picks up the deck regardless of their next card.
2 x joker in a row - next person picks up both deck and burn pile.
Finally, your final card cant be a 2, 7 or 10, otherwise you pick up the deck.
Thanks Jay! I like it. Mind if I ask where you are from?
Got any normal cards in the game? lol
I always play with 7 as a wild card, like many people noted. I'm American but likely learned this game while staying in hostels elsewhere.
Yesss! Thank you this comment made my day.!
Been looking for a video for this game, we’ve always called it shed so It’s been a look 😂 we have a few house rules we’ve been playing with but this is a great video to send our friends who don’t know!
I learned this from a friend of a friend from Iceland and she called it Shitpants 😊 we have 5 cards on hand not 3. Great tutorial 👍🏼
0:33 He said it! He said the thing!
Eg 9,9,9,3. 9,3,9,3.
didnt understand.. pls explain..
Fun rule for when 3 or more players joker reverses rotation n something I like too call a jump in burn, if you have the remaining cards too complete a burn on the pile you can “jump in” and burn even if it’s not ur turn but you must be fast and remember too call it out
Ooh! That sounds like it could get wild! 🤣
We play:
Ace = Challenge, person who played it must pick someone to challenge. They either play another Ace and redirect the challenge or play a 2 to defend themselves - if you cannot do either, pick up the pile
3 = next card must be an odd number
9 = next card must be lower than
Omg! Your finally back! Please don’t disappear again!
lol
I've previously played this in the form of "Ghooost" from Richard Garfield and Iello games. Same game, new face. Both are fun! Thanks!
Keep up the good work, been binge watching your channel. Do you still plan on making an advanced Spades video?
Yes! Though looks like I got a big list of game requests to handle first. 😆
I played this game for 4 months while deployed ,
The 1st 1 out would say, There are no winners only losers
But we used the 7 to change to a higher or lower card in your hand
Ace was a game card ,it could not be beaten and it was placed on any card and you could start with low numbered cards from 2 up , and if you won you could not laugh or be happy as you would then have to Puck up yours cards and 1 from the deck , I lost soo many times but got good in the end
FP in Al Minhad 2023. ❤❤😂😂
Ohhhhhh I remember playing this when I was younger!!!!!!!! Yesss
2 puts it back to 2 or higher , 3 is player can put down any card after 3 , 7 mirrors the previous card , 10 burns the deck the player that places the 10 starts the new deck
In my elementary school we call this game castle
When I play this game with my friends 3, 7 and 8 are also special cards. 3 is glass, 7 is anything under 7 and 8 skips a go
My family added the additional rule of: 7 means next player must play something under 7, or a 10 to clear
You are awesome mate, why did I find this channel soo late 😭
Additional Card Rules
8 = skips next player
9 = play lower
Two 9's = play higher
Three 9's = play lower
Those Monthy Python transitions are somethung.
Another example to understand how a 5 works:
Person A: 3
Person B: 6
Person C: 9
Person A: Q
Person B: 5
Person C: Doesn't have a turn beacuse person B threw a 5
Person A: K (He need to continue as if there were still a queen there, ignoring the "5")
Hey Pocho! Thanks for sharing, that sounds like a fun twist! I'm going to try it out next time I play.
is it an engineering thing to over explain a basic concept like "miss a go"? ;)
@@WesleyRiot Haha, don't think so. It's just that english isn't my first language so sometimes I can't explain something in the most effective way as I would do in spanish.
@@AlbertoOsunas well that makes sense 😅
In prison it was always played with 2,8,7 and 10 being special cards. 2=any card, 7=play lower than 7, 8=see through so higher than the card below, 10=burn the deck
I always play with 8 skipping a go, 7 you have to place a card lower than 7, jack reverses order of play and joker burns the deck. And you can’t win on a power card
I think I need to watch this 3-4 times 😂🤣😂
Bro this is good content :3. Also thx for teaching me :)
“Okay class lets take roll, uhm shithead” “It’s shithead!!!”
when i was taught to play, 3s made the next player pick up the stack, and 7s mean the next card has to be lower
Our version was
10 - bomb
8 - invisible card next player has to Beat the one below the 8
7 - wild card 7 and below
2 - resets the order and anything can be places on and above
I like how in the comments we have our own way on playing palace, the way I play it is
2s reset
7s you tell the next player to go higher or lower then 7
10 explodes the pile
4 cards in a row explodes the pile
there are more wild cards
a 3 is a glass card so you can put it on another card and the person who's next needs to play higher then the card below the 3
when you play a 7 the person who needs to play after you needs to put a card below 7 and then the next person needs to go higher again so it's a one time thing only with a 7
when you play an 8 you can play another higher card (a second turn ig you could call it) but it needs to be higher so no 2 or 3
Eh.....
That intro was fucking phenomenal.
Thank you so much!
Anyone else play with 8 as a piece of glass kind of, so if you were to put an 8 on an ace the next player would have to top ace instead of 8?
We play this with the addition of 7 being reverse card and 8 being a skip card
Great how many variations there are. We used to have a 3 as a magic. If you played this and the following player didn't have another 3, they'd take the stack. 8 was the mirror. 10 was the discard burn and 2 was the same as you had explained. Pretty identical to the rules you play. By far the best card game I have ever played!
Can’t wait to give this a go!
Nice! Be sure to come back and let us know what you thought.
We say well done, Sir.
really good video pal, thank you too
My version is :
2 : back down to 2 (every card can be played)
5 : invisible
10 : burn
I got a little worried about you! Glad to see more videos.
Wildcards can differ depending on how the person was taught, for example I live in the uk and the rules I was brought up with are the same as you described but:
9- must play lower or equal to 9
Edit: There is a lot of debate on the wild cards that are used in this game, many of which just lead to arguments
Been playing for years, still don’t know the origin. I think switzerland. Really fun tho
I thought 5’s were transparent and aces were the highest ?. Might be wrong haven’t played this game for over 20 years 😂
Hi Robert, I know some people play this a little different depending on their region. I think I showed the most common way, but I wouldn’t say other ways are wrong.
Those are great cards ngl
We used to play this as kids. We called it Danish though
Well you can’t end with a two or a ten, 2 let’s you put any card on the pile, not giving that choice to the opponents, and if you en the last card is a two or ten, you lose
I always played 2, 10 and ace was special
Welcome back!!
Thanks!
Can you do old maid or rich man poor man?
What happens if you lay and ace and the next player has to go?
Do how to play piramid solitaire in the future.
Can you do rules for Prefarans - Russian card game?
Woop!
Looks great thanks 😊
Isnt there a card to turn the direction of play??
Lol I've been searching for the rules for ages but couldn't find them because those who taught me called it "Codfish" and "Spanish Trash"
How do aces work in this game or do you take aces out the deck?
I play when you have 4 of a kind you can play it as a 10 and blows up the pile
The game I play has an 8 as invisible and a 7 as play lower. But whatever rules you want, I'll beat you. I'm ace at shithead.
