Hi, I'm from Lithuania, I was born in Utena, currently living in Vilnius. Utena is really beautiful town, its reborn after parks and surrounding areas were renewed. We visit and spend there a weak every year. Before 2-3 years every time I visited this park, I met squirrels who ate hazelnuts from your hand. Last year only crows are making noise, but may be you will be lucky and see squirrels.
Lithuania is famous for its landscapes, flatlands, abundant forests, lakes and marches. In addition, the seaside with its sandy beaches where amber may be found and the Curonian Spit with its impressive images and dunes attract tourists as well.
I love your first impressions of life in Lithuania. I am sure it won't disappoint you as long as you already enjoying the food and stuff. Definitely the Summer is not gonna last forever here, but the Autumn might be pretty warm because recently snow appears only around the Winter holidays. Most of the local people do not value the fact that we have all four seasons here, every year we experience a whole metamorphosis of our mother nature, I love it. 🤗🌍
You should visit Neringa (curonian spit) or any seaside town if you like nature. Although in smaller towns like Palanga or Šventoji there are A LOT of people right now and it can be a bit of a problem for those who like quiet, relaxing places. But there are places like "Olando kepurė" (basically a steep slope of a dune) and a few other spots along the coast. There is a bike lane connecting Šventoji, Palanga and Klaipėda (not exactly, but up to Karklė or Giruliai) . That bike lane is close to the beach at times so there are some nice views. Not "Venice beach bike path" like, but still. But it's quite far from where you are currently staying and accommodation prices are through the roof right now, maybe near the end of August it will go down.
If you like green enviroments, you should visit Birštonas or Druskininkai resort/spa towns. If you like more lakes go to Zarasai or Ignalina. We actually have some small local phenomenons. Kavarskas is relatively nearby to Utena I guess and it is famous for its hand-made koldūnai. You could go on a day trip to Biržai, a town famous for its history and beer brewing. Lithuanians from larger cities go on day trips to Kėdainiai, which has a nice little old town and variuos historical buildings and interesting places (it had a Scottish community living there from XVII century). Anykšiai is nearby and it a beautiful place as well.
I have both Lithuanian and Scottish ancestry, so that sounds really interesting...! I've been to Scotland, but not to Lithuania yet. Ačiū for the tips!!!
