Christ, you are good. You even get the little mistakes and stuff you find in the recording exactly spot on perfect. Awesome series, thanks for posting.
Seems that on some of those riffs/runs going up and down to the next chord, it's 2nds and some 3rd?, but you're not necessarily too too concerned about hitting them exactly? particularly that run down from the B flat with the D 2nd down to the C maj chord. which likely gives it its edge. I've played this alot but I think I'm being too precise and it doesn't flow as well.
Sorry for a late reply. But here's my thoughts of it. Good Golly Miss Molly, or actually any Little Richard song are a bit imperfect when it comes to the piano. From my understanding Little Richard was thought boogie woogie by a guy called Esquerita, which was like the king of just smashing the keys in a "whatever comes out comes out" way. Richard adapted that to his own playing but possibly put a tiny bit more precision in it. A key thing with LRs style when playing in G is that you smash the keys in the melodic minor G scale to get that B-note (or B-flat depending on where you live) whilst the rest is in major. It doesn't mater what the other notes are, but you want to hit that B and preferably a D simultaneously. B and E works too, but it's not really that important. Idk if that answered your question. Let me know if there's anything else you're wondering about :)
Excellent playing and in the video at the end of little Richard he’s not moving his hands fast at all especially the left hand what’s odd is that was in 2002 but in 2007 he moved it like he always did fast and then it’d slow down again.
What notes r u playing for the chop? Like ik C G and A but I can’t really see the pinky and the h thumb together? Is it like C & G together twice, then C & A then C alone then repeat? Also? For the right hand riff (at around 1:40), what notes do your middle three fingers hit, I can see the 1&5 hitting octaves but it’s hard to see what they’re all doin. If u could help I’d be grateful I love little Richard
The chop is just as you said above, 1&5 1&5 1&6 and just 1. the note at 1:40 is just a B (Bb in some countries) and a D. Sorry for making it unclear in the video.
Thanks! :D Hard for me to tell now afterwards. I started playing Rock n Roll on my keyboard when i was maybe 11 or 12, and played a much simpler left hand rhythm (and using "wrong fingers"). But it was first when i was 14 when i really started playing. I got some hand independence and could keep a rhythm, but not the standard boogie woogie rhythm. Just G H D E instead of GG HH DD ED. I also met a professional piano player who suggested me to play the left hand chops with my pinky finger and thumb instead of ring finger and thumb. So i started practicing that, and after i got used to that, the hand independence to play the GG HH DD ED came automatically. I would say i could play "acceptable" at the age of 15, but it was first when i turned 16 and got my first acoustic piano my skills really went to another level. Do you play on a keyboard or a real piano?
Thanks for your prompt answer well for the moment I learn and train on a keyboard I mainly play the left hand on the C and the G chords with my pinky and thumb I just can't get past the hand independence which is very tricky Any tips would be welcome 👌
@@cllctl24 I'm not terribly good yet, i've been playing for about 18 months, but here's what I did: I picked a simple enough bass line, for me it was Swanee River Boogie (1,1,3,1,5,1,65) and then repeated it over and over and over again until it started to become comfortable and I could get out 16 bars of consistent, swung rhythm. I then would play the left hand and just try to do random things with my right - everything from hitting random keys, to snapping, to tapping on the piano in odd rhythms, all while keeping my left hand constant. Then I started to layer on leads with my right hand- sometimes I had to break these down to an insanely slow tempo so that I could figure out where the treble lick fit in with my left hand. I would also ensure that I practiced the right hand with a metronome so that it was rhythmically correct, which made it easier to put the two melodies together. But, candidly, i think there's nothing better than just consistently practicing the left hand until you can't even notice you're playing it. I would bang out the finger placements even when I wasn't at a piano (sitting at a table, reading the paper, etc)
I love your piano playing. But I really love the sound of that piano. Something about that older slightly out of tune sound that can't be replaced. There's also something about the feel of those older pianos that is much better.
This is a very similar to Little Richard in terms of style/sound, bravo! He is one of our biggest musical influences. Pity he's gone now. Check out our quadruple album on bandcamp, you might like it! :) No Serial Killer.
@@ChristopherForsman One other query. In the rhythm bit, when it goes to C, are you sure its a b natural, rather than a b flat? Sounds very discordant to me, but that's maybe Little Richard's style. I can't hear which way it is in the recording,
