- "The Charpy impact test, also known as the Charpy V-notch test, is a standardized high strain-rate test which determines the amount of energy absorbed by a material during fracture."
In this video, I have tried to show the Charpy Impact Testing Demonstration in a Strength of Materials (SOM) Laboratory which includes Machine set up , Specimen Used (Mild Steel Bar), Precautions to be taken care off and how to calculate the total energy absorbed by the specimen (Mild Steel Bar) on Impact loading using the Charpy Scale on the machine.

Make more video of SOM experiment
plz sir 🙏
Yes definitely I will be making , Thanks for your support ❤️
If the plate thk is 6mm what would be sample size?
For this you have to refer standard charts by BIS or other bodies with material specifications, for College purpose it is as mentioned in th video
How do yoy make the notch in the specimen?
By copying the standard size of actual standard specimen provided by the manufacturer with the machine
Sir please one doubt, what exact reason for create V-notch
The specimen is struck by a “hammer” attached to a swinging pendulum of specific design and weight. The specimen breaks at its notched cross-section upon impact, and the upward swing of the pendulum is used to determine the amount of energy absorbed (notch toughness) in the process.
Sir are you in Military Engineering Services ??
No , I am in teaching profession
200 J
100 Div= 200 J ????
Yes based on your least count
Sir how I will get izod impact test video?
I have it in my playlist SOM Practical, Please Check
You can see ctm model here ua-cam.com/users/shorts77e6IUM4EaQ?feature=share
What is notch location ?
Notch location is according to standard specimens , but for College Pracs purpose it can be at the centre i. e. L/2
crocs op XD
Nice Observation, Hope the test was also useful 😂
It seems quite tight,go for the next size..
Notch was not perfect depth
Yes it is not ... Main aim was to showcase the glimpse of actual testing
