  • We finally made it. Season 3 of our reviews of Ontario Provincial Parks started a few weeks late due to the pandemic, but we're here now. In Episode 1 we review the Cyprus Lake Campground and all the great new upgrades to the park. We also review the horrendous new dump station. Stay tuned to the end of the video for a real time update from Parks Canada as to what they are doing to fix the problems.
    In the next episode we will be visiting Long Point Provincial Park. Happy Camping!

    Good on Parks Canada for not only responding to your email but for acting promptly and keeping you informed.
    Good on YOU for elevating your concerns in such a positive way as to have such meaningful impact.

    We just stayed here a week ago for two nights. Apparently the showers are water saving. You get 2 x two minute shower sessions and then the shower turns off. The first time I still had soap on me and my fiancé thought it was a malfunction until he showered the next day. Beautiful shower set-up with a shower curtain separating the shower from the clothing books and shelf. Just be quick.

    The Singing Sands is a very underrated and overlooked area and should not be missed ! It is a beautiful shallow beach with warm water ; perfect for children . The sand patterns and light refraction patterns in the shallow water is magical, especially for photos ! There are nice ,easy trails here and it is a nice stop for a picnic . This large open area at night becomes a n impressive dark sky viewing area, a perfect diversion from the campgrounds !

      Gosh, that dump station is awful. The hole is way bigger than it should be. At least I guess it’s a plus that the fill and the dump are not in a row.

    Awesome! The new rating graphic is fantastic! It's uniquely designed! I'd be really nice if you can rate each park in a few categories; campsite, hiking trails, beach, amenities, overall ranking, and what you found special or different at a particular park. You guys are putting a lot of work to it...keep it up!!

    We are presently staying at Cypress Lake. The showers at the Hub are now open, there are 7 showers in the women section, including one that is assessible, and the same number in the men section. There are also 2 showers/washrooms that are for family and are also assessible. The dump / filling station now has labelling for potable and non potable water. The hoses have been changed to a blue hose for potable water and a yellow hose close to the dumping area, both are threaded. Unfortunately nothing has change regarding the slope of the concrete at the dumping area. We hope this helps. Keep up the great reviews of the Provincial Campground.

    Great video. Just one small correction from someone who has spent years in Tobermory - the Singing Sands beach won't change with the "tide". The Great Lakes are not influenced by the tides the way the ocean is. The water level and therefore shoreline does change drastically from year to year (and last year's levels were very high!) but they won't change day to day in the amounts you're talking about.

    • @CampingwiththeColes
      @CampingwiththeColes  2 роки тому

      Thanks for pointing that out. I was told that it's not the tide but the change in wind is what causes the shoreline to change so much there. It's shallow for a long time so the water going down a few inches could mean the shoreline changes 100 meters.

    • @alisonh.7407
      @alisonh.7407 2 роки тому

      @@CampingwiththeColes I have been there for years and I have never seen that kind of change day to day - only year to year. Seems like you had a great trip though! And Singing Sands is the BEST place to be if you have young kids who are just getting used to being in the water.

    • @CampingwiththeColes
      @CampingwiththeColes  2 роки тому

      We were there one day and over the course of a few hours the shoreline moved out close to 100 meters. We were standing in ankle deep water and shortly afterward we had to walk a long way to get to the water.

    • @alisonh.7407
      @alisonh.7407 2 роки тому

      @@CampingwiththeColes Wow! That must have been a really exceptional day! That's never happened to me. It may have been winds or barometric forces, or even a seiche. If you look up the daily tidal effects on the Great Lakes in general, the are often so negligible as to be unnoticeable. Our property is 10 minutes away, and we certainly don't experience anything like that on a daily basis. Sounds like you saw something really special! :)

    We always see your videos first (on our TV's youtube feature) to plan our trips, but this video took us 10 years back to our visit to the Park. This is a beautiful park for family activities, especially for hiking as the Bruce Trail passes through it. It was June and the water was so cold that none of us could dip our feet even. We used to go there every year in the late 80's with our 3 sons , we loved it so much, before it got popular, it was a hidden gem back then. Then people discovered it and we have not been back since. The only down side to swim in Georgian Bay it is very cold. I had a swimming wet suit to wear even then 15 minutes was a long swim. Normally a couple minutes. .

      It was definitely a tight pull thru. I received a picture from a viewer of the new hoses and signage. It's still pretty apparent that they don't know what they are doing and haven't consulted any expert or even anybody that has ever used a dump station. The put a blue hose on one of the two taps between the dumps valves saying it's potable water for filling water tanks. They made an effort but you should never have a potable water hose within reach of the dump inlets. I'm going to email the project manager again and suggest he consult with an expert.
      Have fun on you conservation areas. We'll be trying Valens Lake Conservation Area for the first time this summer. Happy camping!

      Bruce Peninsula Nation Park is amazing especially for people not requiring electrical hookups. National Parks have a completely different reservation system and we really like it. Each National Park has a specific day designated to open for taking reservations. For 2022 that day was Feb 8. They haven't announced the day for 2023 yet. On that day the website starts accepting reservations at 8 am. When you click on the button it informs you what number you are in the que for reservations. We were like number 1400. Our friends were around 18000. We were notified about 1.5 hours later that our number was up and we could reserve. We then went on the site and saw what was available and reserved. It was very easy. Our friends at number 18000 were notified it was there turn around 7 pm and they were still able to get a site on the dates they wanted. Good luck. Make sure you find out the reservation date for 2023.

    Great video. We were suppose to be there the same weekend, but I had to cancel due to work. It would have been our first time there. Are many of the sites in Birches as tight as 102? Thanks.

    • @CampingwiththeColes
      @CampingwiththeColes  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, all the sites are pretty tight. It's not really set up for bigger travel trailers. Our friends were in 103 with a 23 foot trailer and had difficulty pulling in and these are some of the largest sites specified on the website.

  • @annettedeyoung8231
    @annettedeyoung8231 2 роки тому

    We have a 25 ft trailer also and wondering where or what sites you can recommend. Don't want the same issues that you had as we have never been to this park. You say 102 pull through site, birches but you had some difficulty getting in. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    • @CampingwiththeColes
      @CampingwiththeColes  2 роки тому

      Birches is the only campground you can bring a trailer into other than a pop up. The row that we were in would be the best for a 25 ft trailer. The roads in the campground are real tight though. On the parks website look for the sites that allow the biggest trailers. I think it might say up to 32 feet. Good luck!

    What are the black boxes on your chests while in the truck at the end? Just wondering

    • @CampingwiththeColes
      @CampingwiththeColes  3 роки тому

      Those our our new microphones. I'm trying to improve the sound quality in the truck as I am much louder than Cheryl. We bought the Rode Wireless Go 2 system. Those little boxes are the transmitters with built in microphones. I ordered the Rode Go Lavalier Microphones to plug into the transmitters but they hadn't arrived yet. I just finished filming our latest trip to Long Point PP and we used the new lavalier mics in the truck. They are less obvious. Happy camping!

    Just joined your fan group, are you allowed to use generator in Provincial and National Parks ?

    • @CampingwiththeColes
      @CampingwiththeColes  2 роки тому

      Thanks for subscribing. You can use a generator between 8am and 10pm at Bruce Peninsula National park. You can use generators at provincial parks as long as it doesn't break the "no excessive noise rule". We suggest using an inverter generator which is much quieter and smaller than a commercial grade generator. Happy camping!

    Your drive looked smooth what weight distribution sway control system do you use ? I’m having a heck of a time keeping my trailer from swaying

    • @CampingwiththeColes
      @CampingwiththeColes  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks. I have a Sway Pro Weight Distribution Hitch from Blue Ox like this one amzn.to/3h85tmb. I still found that my truck still sagged at the back so I installed air bags, Firestone Ride-Rite Air Spring Kit amzn.to/2SV24Pp. I usually inflate them to 35psi and the truck and trailer level out nicely. I'm not blinding people with my headlights anymore and I get better gas mileage.
      I've never had any issue with sway. If you can, distribute weight in the trailer so that there is more weight in the front than the back.

      @@CampingwiththeColes I put the airbags in my dodge too and I thought that was my problem but maybe I’m spreading my weight out too much ? I’ll try loading up more on the front of the trailer

    • @CampingwiththeColes
      @CampingwiththeColes  3 роки тому

      @@happycamper8354 Ya, you want to make sure the front of the trailer is level with the back or if not level, a little lower than the back. If the back of your trailer is higher than the front, like might happen if you overinflate your airbags, you'll likely get some trailer sway. Have fun at Darlington. We haven't been there yet but we hope to some day.

    • @CampingwiththeColes
      @CampingwiththeColes  3 роки тому

      There is a comfort station with a women's side and a men's side. Women's has 3 stalls and men's has 2 stalls and a urinal. All normal flush toilets. There is also a couple smaller washroom buildings with 3 separate unisex single bathrooms with flush toilets. The only showers are at the Campground Hub. Happy camping!

      We checked in at 1:30pm but it was the first day the parks were opened up so it was guaranteed that nobody was on our site when we got there. If you go befor 2pm on any other day, you might not be able to get on your site as the previous person has it until 2pm.
