In 4E174, 27 years before Alduin returns in Skyrim, the Great War between the Empire and The Aldmeri Dominion has been raging for 3 years. The Empire is crambling. In Hammerfell, the situation is desperate : The Empire has not been able to hold the city-state of Skaven, which fell under the Aldmeri army led by Lady Arannelya. The redguards organized themselves to protect their own country, it becames an independant resistance. The imperial soldiers that were once fighting hard to prevent the Aldmeri Dominion to control Hammerfell are now scattered through the desert. What could be worse ? Well, by order of the General Decianus, all valid imperial soldiers are recalled to Cyrodiil. Why ? The Empire's very heart, the Imperial City itself is attacked, and on verge to fall. The ennemies are inside the walls. You are an imperial soldier. You are in Hammerfell. But how can you follow your General's orders ? How can you go back to Cyrodiil ? More importantly : How can you accomplish the special mission that has been given to you, and you only ? You are an imperial soldier. But you are a prisonner now. Captured by the Thalmor, the Aldmeri Dominion. And you are in the middle of the burning desert of Alik'r.
