From producer Ahmed Salim and starring Oscar-winning legend Sir Ben Kingsley in the role of The Librarian, this astounding movie provides an eye-opening introduction to the 1001 Inventions initiative.

I'm a catholic american, I greatly respect the real golden age of innovations that have brought the technology we see today, and the muslim people that show light to the world!
I'm so happy to find this video, I've been listening to Sami Yusufi's music till I found one he did for this film. I love every bit of it! History is never boring, I very much love this one.
Al Jazari, Ibn Al Haytham, Ibn Firnas, Al Zahrawi, Al Astrolabi are some of many other scholars and scientists. Whatever racists and islamophobic can say today...these scholars' contributions are real, precious and won't be forgotten.
And keep in mind that Muslims won't and never persecute these scholars/scientists. They never torture or even kill these scientists. The most heavy "punishment" is only on prison.
Unlike those Churches and scientists in the past.
And keep in mind that those scientists can think brilliantly because they stick to their religion, Islam. Unlike those Christian scientists that got brilliant minds when they left Christianity.
AL Khwarizmi also

@1001Inventions This video makes me proud to be a MUSLIM, while i always told them this, but they still mocked me in,
I pray to God to unite Muslims once again to liberate the whole world from the era of injustice which we live right now.
Thank you 1001Inventions so much, please keep it up bro.
You will not believe how GLAD I am when i watch this video, I really could not prevent my tear falling.
I AM PROUD TO BE A MUSLIM

Those cities of Baghdad, Damascus, Cairo, Cardabo, Merv, Sheraz, Samarkund, Bokhara, Multan, Balkh, Basra and etc were the center of knowledge, education, scholars, culture and trade. People used to travel thousands of kilometers to visit these cities to equip themselves of knowledge.
This clip is amazing. I love how it speaks the truth about Muslim people and how they did set out the stepping stones to inventions we take for granted today.
@omarfathalla
Sadly we can only fit in so many great scientists in the short time we have for the movie. There are hundreds, even thousands, who deserve recognition. We hope to include many more in future films.

A brilliant video from a brilliant website!!!!!!! When we had our science fair a few months ago, I had to make a whole multimedia presentation on Muslim Heritage!!!! After that, my respect for Muslims increased so much!!! And this is all due to 1001 Inventions!!!!
Golden ages NOT dark ages
No, Certainly Golden Age ☪️🇹🇷☪️🇹🇷
You can find the book "1001 Inventions - The Enduring Legacy of Muslim Civilization" through any online or high street bookshop. It is published by National Geographic.
Thank you
just found this precious video. finally the real information about the golden civilitation revealed, so i can tell to my children about it that they never been told in their school. thx a lot btw
Glad you liked it. Yes, we do have a version in Arabic. Unfortunately, UA-cam doesn't let you post links to your other videos. But it's easy to find if you look through our uploaded videos. :)
I'm Moroccan 🇲🇦 Amazigh ( Berber)♓ and proud of Islam and our berber grandfathers scientists Like Abbas Ibn Farnas , Ibn batouta, Ibn Rochd(Averroes) and Al beytari(first Botanist ) Etc..
Thank you so much for this film.. to remind people of one of the most important times in history..that sadly many seemed to have forgot.
a BIG THANKS TO SIR BEN KINGSLY
Finally, really knowledge is resurfacing about who the real beginners of the Age of Enlightenment were. :)
Dah.... Learned all this same stuff when going to school in the 1950s. I guess kids just don't learn the same history now in school.
No they don't learn these things , sir.
They teach your grandsons and granddaughters now how to hate anything related to this religion with misguided information , brain wash is the language spoken right now :/
This is a wonderful story, so simplistic and true! I met the author this past weekend
and he signed the book for me! How exciting! to learn the about the people behind the inventions. Celebration of Teaching and Learning Rocked!
A few months, in our school, we had a science fair. The theme was Muslim Heritage!!!! Me and three other girls, together, made a whole multimedia project about Muslim Heritage!!!! I really wish this video was there when we made it!!!! It would have made making the project A LOT better!!!! That's basically because the websites we went on had too much information, making it harder to understand!!!! This video is much more informative!!!! Congrats to those who made it!!!! :)

Great video! I hope the sequel can talk about Abū ʿAbdallāh Muḥammad ibn Mūsā al-Khwārizmī. Hi contributions to mathematics were huge, although they probably can't make graphics as zippy as the inventions.
my lecturer used this video as an assignment . wish me luck
Ben Kingsley still is one of my absolute favourite actors:)
Just wondering, why would some people dislike an interesting educational video like this? any idea?
My respects for all of the mentioned scientists (and the unnamed ones as well), especially for my countryman al-Jazari the Kurd.
Great Short Movie!!! Alot of people should know more about this information! I loved it. Knowledge is Power!! I give it 1001 thumbs up!!
Much respect to the Islamic world.

I am from Pakistan and intend to use this video as a teaching resource in my classroom. The video watermark says NOT FOR REPRODUCTION - copyright reserved. May I be given permission to use the video as a teaching resource for my students ? I will be highly obliged as it is a wonderful way of depicting the achievement of muslims and the connection of muslim inventions with the modern advancements.
@tharimaoo6
There are many theories as to why Abbas ibn Firnas isn't as well known as he should be. His achievements in many different disciplines is astounding. So he deserves to be as well known as any great inventor or scientist you could ever name.
He wasn't an Arab though. He was a Berber whose ancestry is traced back to North Africa.
Cant wait to work with this at the museum in Karlstad Sweden! :D
Its so exciting!
i watched this at school during islamic studies with the whole class. When the movie finished the whole class was like ohhhhhhhhhhh i wish there was a part 2 to this because its so interesting about 1001 inventions.i thought so too plz have something else similar but 2 to this.

this video gave me pride i lost long time ago a pride of being a Muslim.
thank you Jmeel Foundation for such a Work
it would be grate to see this as a documentary series like bbc or discovery in a longer story about significant inventors of each era. we lack this kind of documentary that can teach as something.
Why is there a disclaimer in this video that says to not show this video to the public? This video NEEDS to be shown to the public! With all the lies and undue hatred being levied at Islam and Muslims by Israel, truths like this video MUST be known.
saw this video as part of our Discover Islam week exibition at university.... it was an amazing presentation and video...
I think the disclaimer is wrong. It should read:
_This film is for all to see and must be shown publicly, broadcasted and reproduced as often as possible._
Our precious scientist , our great islamic culture , invented the first idea of everything 👏🏻الحمدلله
INSHA'ALLAH we will come back as we used to once we get our freedom! And those who pretend to be muslim to comment bad comments about arabs.. Please get a life .. nice try tho

Last night, I was at an interfaith Iftar at a local Masjid, and they showed this film, which none of us could hear because we were busy conversing in interfaith dialogue. UA-cam was also very slow, and they gave up on waiting for the video to load. I'm glad I could find it again.
On one hand, Islam is currently in a similar situation to that of Judaism just before the second world war, but in the Middle East, it is currently in a similar situation to that of Christianity during what for Christianity, was the dark ages. Christianity rose above it's dark ages, and I'm sure Islam will too. I have met many Muslims who make me feel hopeful.
I wish that kinda things happens in my library!
I'm Frank speechless ....Something ultra sophistication, literary, cultural, English, attested to Islamic scientific deliveryEnglish educational movie to the children of the whole world that Islamic civilization is golden eras and not later or darkness era as it mentioned in historyImpress beyond reason , it shows the importance of Islamic civilization in our times, makes me pay tribute to the greatness of this mentality.
Oh, I thought it was trailer and it would be full length of film someday.. I'm looking foward for a very long length of film (90 Minutes or more), since this short movie is AWESOME!!!
The first university in the world that is still running by Guiness world Records is Al-Qarawiyyin university in Fès Morocco. A country in North Africa
Wow, much more interesting then what I was expecting.
and you forgot one the most important descovries ever which was by a muslim who is name is al khwarzme (الخوارزمي) he is the man who discovred the moat of rules :) so without him most of the things that we have today wont be here

A good video that I advise everyone to watch, good for educational purposes and it has a clear idea and it’s easy to understand
Awesome!Professional work!Respect from Turkish Republic
These short movie shows truths about the past and Muslims invented everything and the dark ages was only at Europe even the king of France or England couldn't even write his name

It's something Americans will never have...our oriental mysterious world, beautiful, exotic women that don't have to put out their attributes to look nice, cause even when they are covered up they are beautiful, they have eyes, smile, and karma ,intelligence, and that's what I call beauty...and man the music...mind blowing....sorry americano folks ;) and of course since some of you will say that this music, soundtrack from the video was made by americans, true, but this type of music didn't come from America, it came from the streets of Arabia, Morocco, Egypt and other beautiful countries and cities .... Sallam
I love this scene by the way... 12:20 when he looks at the camera and smile.... I don't know why... :)
Evelyn Stark True about what you said about women, did you know the the first university in the world ever made was by a Muslim woman.
***** (you are a bit mistaken, if you believe University of al-QarawiyyinI to be the FIRST university, it may be the OLDEST continuously operating University at this time BUT definitely NOT the first, do your fact checking before spouting off LIES) Just check a real encyclopedia like Britannica or look at wiki or search GOOGLE before putting your foot in your mouth and misleading OTHERS! You will have to look back 1000s of years before the Library of Alexandria or the City of Babylon or places in China, centers of higher learning and education (universities) were not made by some Muslim woman... Each part of humanity can take credit for our current status and level of technology, it is when humans cooperate and exchange knowledge that we move forward. The muslims conquered many different civilizations and assimilated their knowledge, books and ideas. You must understand that just because one place on the globe may have been in a little RUT, does not mean that other civilizations were not prospering. That is why they talked about the Romans, Greeks, Renaissance and not to mention India, China, etc. at the beginning and end of the film. It is only about educating people that the Muslim Caliphate also contributed to our current level of knowledge, but to say without it we would be LOST is a lie. It was a bit of propaganda to say the least. In the last 100 years or look at the NOBEL prize winners in science, mathematics, medicine, etc. you will see that the Muslim world has done little to further our current state of technology. ISIS currently wants to take the world back to the days of Mohammed and reverse the clock. There were just as many fanatical Muslims in that era as there are today or just as many fanatical Christians that burnt women at the stake during the inquisition! All religions have DARK parts of their history.... It is aad and embarrassing.
temples are not something u term university, and university means degree or diploma granting.
They did give degrees. Platos academy is known as the first university.
I remember studying a book similar to this back in high school called "History of sciences at the arabs." time went by fast.
اللهم صل على محمد وعلى آل محمد كما صليت على إبراهيم وعلى آل إبراهيم وبارك على محمد وعلى آل محمد كما باركت على إبراهيم وعلى آل إبراهيم إنك حميد مجيد
I am going to look for this book and read it.. thank you sharing this info, respect from Bangalore India 🙏🙏
Man history is not what I thought
Firstly, it isn't a film for Muslims. It is a film about the history of science.
Secondly, it is an educational film made specifically for school children. So, yes, we are treating our audience like children. Because our target audience *are* children. :)
Historical periods are not like the marks on the plate of a clock. This means that a historical period not only has a conventional start and a conventional end, but also a specific area, *specific countries that it covers*.
So..., "Dark Ages" concerns only Western Europe. The term is not accurate, anyway, but it has nothing to do with, say, China. There was surely a Chinese emperor around 600 BC, but we may be sure he wasn't a Medieval Chinese emperor!!, because he was Chinese, and Chinese are never Medieval!!
Yes, the first centuries after the rise of Islam was a period of progress. Many scientific terms commemorate the Arab contributions to science: algebra, algorithm, zenith and nadir, Almagestra, and also alchemy.
But the video seems to imply that there was the Dark Ages, and Islam. This is a mistake. There was also Byzantium, which is the later period of the Roman empire. Byzantium was the source from which the Greek heritage passed to the Arabs. But indeed the Arabs were able to present many new things of their own.
I must have that book! :D
+1
What is the book called please

400 B.C.: Chinese philosopher Mozi, founder of Mohism, is the first in recorded history to mention the simple principles behind the concept of camera obscura. Mozi notices light entering through a pinhole into a dark room and records the image created by the light rays. He refers to this finding as a "collecting place" or a "locked treasure room."

Thus I have heard, once Sakyamuni Buddha was at Potalaka Mountain, in the treasure-adorned Way-place in Avalokitesvara's palace, sitting on a precious Lion-Throne adorned in purity with countless multifarious Mani-jewels. Hundreds of precious streamers and banners were hanging all around.
At that time, the Tathagata, who was sitting on his throne, intending to explain a teaching of the Total-Retention Dharani, was along with innumerable Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas, whose names are: Dharani King Bodhisattva, Treasure King Bodhisattva, Bhaisajya-Raja(Medicine King) Bodhisattva, Bhaisajya-Samudgata(Medicine Superior) Bodhisattva, Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, Maha-stamaprapta(Great Strength) Bodhisattva, Avatamsaka Bodhisattva, Great Sublime Bodhisattva, Precious Deposits Bodhisattva, Virtue Store Bodhisattva, Vajragarbha Bodhisattva, Akasagarbha(Space Store) Bodhisattva, Maitreya Bodhisattva, Samantabhadra(Universal Goodness) Bodhisattva, Manjusri Bodhisattva, and so on. Such Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas are all great Dharma-Princes who had been empowered through their crowns (Abhiseka).
