I made this last weekend. It came out great! I'm from Holland and pumpkin is kind of a forgotten vegetable here and I can only buy whole pumpkins, not the canned stuff. So I had to make pumpkin puree from scratch which was very easy. For spices I used "speculaaskruiden", that's a typical Dutch fall/winter spice mix containing cinnamon, ginger, cloves, nutmeg, cardamom, white pepper and dried orange zest. So delicious. Anyway, thanks for teaching me how to make this. Doei!
Ayyy as a German I can understand your weird language and yes I would also like to know how much pumpkin you needed and how you made the puree! Grüße :)

This recipe is sooooo good, I didn't add all spice or 5 spice and it tasted amazing, it didn't last in the fridge more than 1 day, now I have to make more for Thanksgiving 🥰
Ingredients for one pumpkin pie: 1 can (15 ounce) pumpkin 1 large egg 3 egg yolks 1 can (14 ounce) sweetened condensed milk 1/4 teaspoon freshly, and very finely ground nutmeg 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger 1/8 tsp Chinese 5-spice (or to sub: a small pinch each of ground star anise, ground cloves, and ground white pepper) 1/2 teaspoon fine salt 9-inch unbaked pie crust
I tried it ! Ok my main draw was that he said it was custard like - which I prefer . So I’m terms of consistency totally a winner for me . Now I will say it is a tad sweet but I also know I’m sensitive to sweetness levels so I doubt it will be an issue for most . I could not find 5 spice at my store so I did what someone suggested on here and replaced with all spice and just a dash of powdered cloves . I also used only 1/2 the cinnamon simply because my husband isn’t a fan . I replaced the balance w cardamom . I liked it spice wise very much not too intense but not bland . I will say though my mom likes very spicy pie so if you are that type be sure to taste the batter to see if you want to add a bit of anything . Very easy recipe and I had no issues with it at all . Great if you need to whip up a pie for surprise guests type thing too . I only had to cook my pie the second half 30 mins fyi
I’ve never made pumpkin pie before and this was amazing. Even better than the ones I’ve had from farmer’s markets. I made this with a graham cracker crust :) Next time I will add a couple spoonfuls of dark rum like someone mentioned in the comments and a dash more of Chinese five spice, just for a little more of a kick. Thank you!
I followed your instructions except used 2 yolks instead of 3 (ran out of eggs). We baked the pumpkin and scraped out the shell because Halloween just passed and we had an uncut pumpkin sitting there. I doubt it was a sugar pumpkin - it was a bit orange/yellow rather than strong orange (will color tell you if it's a sugar pumpkin?). Also, we didn't puree but just mixed (about 470 grams) into the condensed milk, egg/yolks, and so forth. The pie tasted good. No stringy, chewy fiber, a few smallish chunks, but the overall flavor was evenly spread. Texture was good, I thought. My only complaint is that my children said, "It tastes just like from the store!" Can one egg yolk make the difference? If they had said, "...just like from FOODWISHES!", then I'd be fine. My 4 yr old daughter crushed all the graham crackers, diligently, single-mindedly, yet pleasantly to make the crust you showed in the sunny cheesecake video. Anyways, thanks for all the videos. We ennnjooyyy.
I just made this and it is by far the best pumpkin pie I ever had, and picture perfect. I normally would buy Marie Callender's frozen pumpkin pie, but they were sold out at all my stores. I had to resort to making my own. I had no idea how easy and cheap it was. No cracks at all. If your pie cracks, you baked it too long. Mine went a total of 35 min till the knife came out clean. I also didn't have any ginger so I used 2.5 tbsp pumpkin pie spice instead of all the spices. 100 times better then Marie Callender's and sooo much cheaper. It filled a deep dish pie perfectly.

Great recipe but a warning to everyone. I didn't properly get the lumps out of my spices and I paid the price. I thought with all that good whisking I had gotten rid of any lumps in the spices but I noticed about 15 minutes into cooking that there were some black burnt spots on top and concluded they must have been lumps that rose to the top and starting burning. I had to puncture the beautiful glossy skin and cut them out like a skin cancer surgeon leaving an unsightly hole in the nice skin. The pie tasted fine but it was just an aesthetic thing. I will make sure to siv my spices next time.
I made this pie for Thanksgiving and my whole family loved it! I like how it's not overly sweet. The spices blend perfectly and it has a nice custardy texture.

I followed this simple recipe, but roasted a pie pumpkin instead of using canned...and only added about half a can of sweetened condensed milk (tasting it to get the flavor right). Turned out to be the best pumpkin pie I've ever had. Love Food Wishes!
@@hamez2192 yes, people say that Libby's brand pumpkin puree is the best. Some think it's even better than using fresh, because it contains Dickinson pumpkins which are bred especially for using in pumpkin pie.
Thank you sir!! I made this for the first time in my life because it's not something that we eat in my country (I'm from Chile) but I see it everywhere and I always wanted to try it. I didn't have the same pumpkins but I used one that is very similar on colour and texture (a variety of Zapallo) to make the puree and it came out great! Thanks for such an easy recipe and my pie has No Cracks... perfection (except the two areas of knife test).
Near perfect. You forgot the 2 ounces of dark rum.
I took your advice and added 2 ounces of dark rum (4 tablespoons) and WOW!! At first I was thinking, boy that is a lot of rum, will it cook? It was the best pumpkin pie I ever had. From now on I'm adding dark rum. Thank you!
Definitely adding this next time.
Add it To the whipping cream.
What rum did you use?
@@DanielFlores-cg8pt dark
"a twist, three thrusts, and a pull" ...lol!
I hope an American can tell me if Pumpkin Pie tastes as good as it looks?.......
It's better
+Frank Watson It's not my favorite, but it is good:)
+Frank Watson For me, it is almost like cunning linguistics. :-)
The americans have convinced me to do this u_u make perfect pie happen i shall !
Me too, I will make this on Halloween
I’m from India so I’ve never made or had pumpkin pie before coming to the US. I come back to this recipe to make pie for my family and friends every thanksgiving. This recipe has never let me down.
I made your pumpkin pie last night and OMG, the title is the God's honest truth! It is honestly the Best pumpkin pie I have ever had! I didn't even have that special spice mix. I can't stop eating it! I know you posted this recipe a long time ago but I only discovered it this year. To think all this time I've been making the recipe off the back of the label of the can of pumpkin when I could have been making this! Just the best recipe ever! Thanks!!!
“My photoshop skills are legendary” DEAD😂 and the sexy dollop is amazing!
A twist, three thrusts, and a pull
sounds like a good friday night to me
This dude is hilarious 😂🙌
I make this pie every year and it always turns out amazing!! Thank you so much for posting
I made this recipe and it turned out great, never ate pumpkin pie till this day, love it!

If this guy narrates every video of foodwishes I would watch every video.
You are in luck, he does. :) it makes watching these videos all that much more amazing!
Awesome pie, chef john is so funny
I followed this simple recipe, but roasted a pie pumpkin instead of using canned...and only added about half a can of sweetened condensed milk (tasting it to get the flavor right). Turned out to be the best pumpkin pie I've ever had. Love Food Wishes!
If i can't get access to fresh pumpkins do you think it'll still be alright?
@@hamez2192 yes, people say that Libby's brand pumpkin puree is the best. Some think it's even better than using fresh, because it contains Dickinson pumpkins which are bred especially for using in pumpkin pie.
Hello to my favorite chef and his wife. Making this today yay. All the best to you.
“Sexy dollop of whipped cream” killed me
Seth Rogen? Is that you??
When he is sober ROTFL. Dude that comment was great.
+Danielle Tonus Fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Danielle98 omg I just noted he sounds like him
Not even close
4:07 “so I’m gonna put a very very sexy dollop of whipped cream on there”😂😂😂
I love your sense of humor
Thank you sir!! I made this for the first time in my life because it's not something that we eat in my country (I'm from Chile) but I see it everywhere and I always wanted to try it. I didn't have the same pumpkins but I used one that is very similar on colour and texture (a variety of Zapallo) to make the puree and it came out great! I actually made it so the entire pie it's lactose-free too (with your homemade crust recipe!) Your recipes are ones that I actually make and they have never failed me! I will certainly translate this one so my parents can try it too :)
