Thanks man, I'll need all of the good luck I can get if I want to go there with you. I gave your video a watch, and I have to say, congrats on the very well prepared audition. I have a good feeling that you'll be in New York this upcoming July.
Really nice performance. A tip I would give about the marimba and xylofoon part. Try to be more freely with your performance. Take your time with everything. Make music. More ritenuto's and crescendo, decrescendo. I think that will bring your performance to the next level. Hope it helps. Goodluck!!
I watched the video again and I see what you’re talking about. I got all of these recorded in one day so I didn’t really think to check if I was putting enough musicality in the mallet solo, and that’s probably going to be the death of me in this application. Thanks for the good pointer, I appreciate it!
Great job! I noticed at the 2 minute mark that when you’re playing the pudadas, your right hand is angled down as to make the right hand triplets easier to play. Speaking of your right hand, I also noticed your 3 mallet is lower than ur 4 mallet when ur doing those pudadas. practice ur permutations without angling down your hands starting at a slow tempo and work ur way up so u can do those pudadas at tempo without having to angle your hand downward. While you practice that, be conscious of your mallet heights and velocities so you can get that even sound with the pudadas. You can also try raising the board a little bit to see if it helps. At that same section your left thumb is crushing your fulcrum. Be sure to play with loose hands; there’s no need to press your thumbs onto the stick, just lay them flat. Something my instructors taught me, albeit grotesque, was that if a needle were to stab your thumb, it should go through your thumb nail, the mallet shaft, and the cushiony part in between the first two knuckles of your pointer finger. hope this helps 🙃
Fixed those little things in my technique, and I feel much smoother with my pudadas and I have a much more consistent sound with my laterals, thanks for the feedback man!
What a legend 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Sounding nice! From a fellow auditionee for NYO2 next summer, good luck!
