Hey Kibs, I found the name of the look you’re going for with the paving! It’s called greebleing, and it’s used for big sci-fi machines all the time - like the hull of the Death Star in the original SW trilogy. Back then, they had to do it by glueing a bunch of LEGOs onto the sides of the miniature models they were using, but nowadays it’s done with a computer. Anyway, hopefully this helps if you want some inspiration for future builds!
yeah when he said he was going to put it in to a box I thought the pillars were going to be the corner with glass walls. a giant glass box to memorialize it place.
If you want efficient inefficiency to transport "just a handful of items" around your factory, automate factory carts. They only have one inventory slot, but since they use no fuel, its not all that bad
I remember you based your main base's facade on Vex architecture from the Destiny universe, the bricked-over-desert looks very much like a Vex landscape viewed from on high. Lots of seemingly random boxes superimposed into each other with all right angles.
Lesson number 1 in factorio. Industrialize EVERYTHING. Never grind if you don't have to. lol So satisfactory should be no different. Kinda loving this.
If you're short on iron you could always use the other "Forbidden One", the iron doped with copper ore to get more iron yield. 😉 you've got *plenty* of Copper, after all. And if you run low on copper, you can always dope that with caterium for more wire, then that with heavy oil residue to get more cable! Jokes about nightmare recipe circles aside, I'm eager to see which route you go for circuit boards, getting enough of those was a nightmare for my P4 Elevator parts factory, since you need them alllll over the place. I also love this new open design! Your compact designs have always been great but this is a new way for you to show off some great designs!
I would be shocked if I knew a tip Kibitz didn't, but you can fix the Z-fighting by placing a pillar in the center of one of the problem foundations, deleting the foundation from under the pillar, then replacing the foundation by attaching it to the bottom of the pillar rather than a neighboring foundation.
See, that’s the mindset I need for things that take me tens of hours: “Oh, this project will be so fun! I can’t wait to get this project going!” *as you’re slaving away at said project, telling yourself it’s “all coming together”*
Concrete takes on a cool pattern when you paint it. You should pick shades of red and black to color different levels as a way to further differentiate heights. Keep up the great content.
I’m excited for this last leg of the journey and sad it’s almost coming to an end :( a little bittersweet Kibitz keep up the great work! Can’t wait to see the concrete jungle of a masterpiece you come up with
Assembly Directors were the first part I ever tried to make fully automated from the ore on up. Took me like 8 hours to set up one constructor working at capacity. Interesting learning experience though.
I feel like a terraforming tool like in No Man’s Sky to look for rare items/resources would be pretty cool. When I saw the sand dunes, it made that idea pop in my head.
Be good to see what kind of craziness the feed into the space elevator will be. Hopefully something visual and flashy for the final epic moment you’ve been building to :D
I'm having flashbacks to the iron factory I built in the red desert. 6 lines of iron ore being purified and turned into various pure iron products. I included lines of iron wire, cable and modular frames just because I had so much iron to work with. Had a small motor factory nearby to use the coal.
i know we're not going for realism here, but i do think it's interesting to note that sand is one of the few types of land that it is almost physically impossible to build on. your only option is to shove support beams ALLLL the way down through the sand until they reach something sturdier beneath. so in that sense, the idea kibz mentions at 5:13 is arguably more reasonable than following the terrain. sand dunes are constantly shifting, and the terrain your trying to follow today will be completely different tomorrow. but if you have to build on support beams anyway, you may as well construct them so that you have a completely flat surface to work on edit: aw man and this 14:56 is exactly the kind of thing that actually _would_ work well directly on sand! something with a center of gravity near or even below the sand level, plus a bowl-shaped underside is like the one exception to the rule above! ironic that the whole thing doesn't even touch the sand here
Concretization of Kibz dreams. Kibz dreams are concrete now. He has a solid grasp on the foundations of his game. He is having slabs of fun doing it. Or dementia, you never know.
I'd say Kibz has gone finally gone insane not only with mass concrete-isation, not caring fully about efficiency and land space, but not even using the Pure iron Ingot recipe. I would say he's finally gone insane, but Kibz was always insane since the first time he had to use the basic concrete recipe.
Hey, Kibitz. About the issue with belt refusing to connect that you mentioned in a video about a month ago, no need to restart the game, just need to press Ctrl for a moment to reset the "clipping to guidelines" system. Sorry if you got a tip for that before, but I just finished catching up on videos...
21:17 Crazy? I was crazy once, they put me in a room, a rubber room, a rubber room with rats. rats make me crazy. Crazy? I was crazy once, they put me in a room, a rubber room, a rubber room with rats. rats make me crazy. Crazy? I was crazy once, they put me in a room, a rubber room, a rubber room with rats. rats make me crazy.
Your highway looks *distressingly* similar to mine (to the point where I'm a little concerned that I might have unintentionally lifted the design from you), though I - being a fan of non-walking-based gofast - incorporated a tunnel underneath which I've since added hypertubes to, and have further outfitted with glass walls and a line of glass flooring up the middle.
Oh man, this reminds me of when I paved over the swamp, contouring it to be just above all the poison gas... Such a great idea before the spiders learned to jump.
Coincidentally enough, I came to the exact same conclusion: The Dune Desert is probably the best spot for Assembly Directors. Tons of iron** (that many of us who started our saves elsewhere weren't using anyway) and lots of wide open space make a compelling case for it. (**With all the best alts, a respectable 10 ADS/min requires over 6,000 iron/min... but comparatively not much else.)
You know what i would do: make all the stations out of concrete instead of asphalt. Because the trucks are so heavy, the asphalt would bend under "normal" warm circumstances. e.g. 20°c temperatures. Concrete is nowadays the preferred material to make Busstations for examples
You probably already have an idea for how to fuel the trucks, but you could use the coal ore to fuel the truck stops. It is conveniently right where you need it, and you might not need to put too much of it on trains to move it out
Cool video, I managed all the parts by taking the insane method of temporary hand fed machines. It really didnt take long TBH. That said I appreciate the insane factories that you build.
I once attempted something like this. My goal was to cover the entire map - not a single biome, but the ENTIRE map - in concrete and steel. I wanted to turn it into an Adeptus Mechanicus Forge World. After 200 hours, I eventually stopped when I mostly covered the green fields and realized that doing this would probably reach the Unreal Engine object limit with only foundations.
I'm sure it's been mentioned before, but this really looks like the "deathstar surface" you were attempting to make with your fuel generator set up in season 3
Turn the old storage room into a museum of sorts... drop some statues in there... a random factory cart etc.. just make it something you walk through from entrance to exit and see the process of how the factory started from a machine to a continent wide production facility
Kibz, I always watch your satisfactory video religiously. I wonder how much you still enjoy the game after so many hours and playthrough. I've been trough this game 3 times. And they were way way way far more simple than your play through. Right now I'm a bit sick from the game. Keep up the good work!
This is what I did to the biome in the northwest, instead of actually making an efficient tier 3 automation setup. Preserved rivers with glass over frame boxes, and used ramps everywhere. Sort of gave up on production part way through and just made a cart park instead. Oh, and this was several patches before zooping was an option. I just kept making the excuse for myself that it was "infrastructure".
I actually considered starting a project that I called "the great paving" where I would cover most of the terrain in the northern forest with foundations to make factory building easier, but I never went ahead with it because I ended up building the factories in a huge tower instead.
Might there be a mod out there which allows you to nudge objects by a minimum amount in any direction to avoid the Z-fighting so the arrow asphalt is above the walkway asphalt just slightly? I think it wouldn't be enough to make the ride bumpy, but it would be enough to render the one above the other.
I changed my NVidia GT 620 to an AMD Sapphire HD 5550. I now get 15+fps (reliably 20fps) instead of 9fps on a good day. Now that I can actually function in game, I hope to ascend to the highest "natural" peak, and build a platform that spans the whole map to block out the sky, up to which all items will go to train stations to be moved about, since Conveyer Elevators don't have a height limit (so I hear and shall test).
Seems to me going with the Pure variant for all the Iron would have been the proper strategy. No fussing with having to pull the iron from all over. Of course then you need water, but I guess it wouldn't be quite as epic and worthy of YT.
My two cents... If you needed more iron, then why didn't we go with Pure Iron with the Refinery? We could nearly cut in half the amount of iron ore needed just by including a little bit of water.
I've always wondered why you don't use the iron ingot recipie that requires some water but you get an insane amount of iron ingots more (for copper ingots it's even more crazy). I don't think I'd have survived automating 480 motors/min in that desert without that recipie 😂.
You know what this paved desert needs?
A trench.
A trench with a hole.
And the hole is actually an exhaust port for a reactor.
reminds me of target practice out on my uncles farm in the desert
But I was going into Tosche Station to pick up some power converters
Then set up a set of drones flying through said trench
@@theencolony5595 So long as they stay on target.
@@theencolony5595 this is an amazing idea

should keep the box for the old storage room but turn it into a museum. Like the Smithsonian kind of thing.
Great idea. I loved the train that used to rattle by whilst you were in there. Could maybe keep it as a tourist line :D
