    That noise on the answering machine tape is the digital code to tell the machine the date and time of the message. If you put the tape into a multi track tape player you could isolate the noise and the actual message. But regardless.

      as a visual artist some of my favourite pieces of art are really roughly drawn/painted ones. i actively make my drawn lines more wobbly a lot to get that effect, even.
      idk much about music (im going to change that tho) but some stuff ive heard that ive adored i think could be called more "rough" and "raw" sounds
      i really get not wanting just perfect smoothness in any kinda art in general tho, tbh.

  • @mikeshaver-miller745
    @mikeshaver-miller745 5 років тому

    There’s a really fascinating temporal aspect to this kind of music. The idea of setting up music that is completely tethered to the speed of playback, then altering it with different recordings at different speeds to achieve different pitches is a really fascinating premise. Imagine what you could do if you had two of them, and recorded them back and forth at different speeds to get slower and slower or faster and faster samples. I also like how destructive it is. When you’re working in a software suite like ableton, you can make a copy of your sample and keep it forever. If you only have like two tapes, that’s all the recording real estate you have. It has to breed some pretty creative solutions to problems.

    Shoutouts to the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, they're the OGs of tape manipulation. You should do a video on their techniques!

      Maybe if someone knows what person with that black hair on the jacket that is we can find the place to buy it. Like there are some patches on the jacket where you see like anime hair or something and if you know who that is you know where to buy it...
